2024 Fantasy Football Thread
Welcome to the 2024 fantasy season, where I'm officially addicted to best ball. I've been drafting since the end of Jan
In theory, trying to target a projected higher scoring game to cover a bye probably adds a teeny tiny miniscule edge. But my push back would be:1. My QB decisions are almost always dictated bye stacking partners and cost, especially for my 2nd and 3rd drafted QBs. 2. I don't want to be overweight any single QB combo. The same goes for TEs. I want a really nice mix of which
I agree!
Still, I don't think it would be a bad idea to have a list of QB's who have great matchups and a list of those who have terrible matchups. If it's close I would like to know which back up is in a high over/under compared to a low over/under game. It doesn't matter so much if it's somewhere in the middle. this could apply to other positions as well. I just think it's weird that I have never heard this discussed for or against. Maybe it's already been hashed out and I'm late to the game.
Yeah, it's probably fine to use as a tiebreaker, but I probably wouldn't lean into too much. Projections for week 1 right now are still iffy, let alone week 8, week 14, or week 17, even though sites like ETR still try to capture it. But you can certainly use factors like domes, potential good weather, potential offensive environment, etc. At that volume I draft, a lot of that stuff is just going to happen organically, so that's another reason why I probably haven't considered it too much.
I have another game theory topic I've been thinking through and want to see what others think or see if anyone has thought this one through.
When I get unique or try to create low owned combos, I'm generally doing it within a few picks of the turns in the earlier rounds. I generally try to draft two players together that have similar or identical ADPs.
Let's take the 2/3 turn for instance.
The first round pick is somewhat irrelevant for this argument, but it can also play a factor for combo/w17 purposes. So let's say, I have Bijan and I want to draft Adams and Kyren for w17 plus Rams correlation. Adams and Kyren are right next to each other in ADP in the middle of a round, so almost never being drafted together. Let's say JT is the best pick on the board ADP wise at 22.
I take Adams at 22. Now it swings back to me at 27 and JT has fallen there. Do you take JT and reset your ADP CLV and chase Adams/Kyren with Bijan on another team or do you ignore JT and keep true to the plan?
If you take JT, your uniqueness attempt is basically shot, because there is no difference drafting Adams at 22 and JT at 27 compared to JT at 22 and Adams at 27. But if you don't take JT, you also give up another pick of ADP value for JT where another drafter benefits and Kyren is not going to project quite as well. I could also run into a situation where I have JT on quite a few Bijan/Adams teams already and don't really want to add another at that point.
It's something I run into a bit where I'll reach on a player 5-8 or so spots for whatever reason, but then another player falls, and I feel like I haven't really done much other than swap draft spots of the 2 players and the ADP reach/fall isn't really material.
It happens to me quite a bit at the 5/6 turn, because that's about the point where I'm starting to focus more on roster needs, fitting player profiles, etc. than wholly focusing on ADP prices, other than extreme or unique fallers. Projections are also flattening out by that point in the draft.
For instance, I pull up Jauan to pick 57, because I think he's the best WR available and need WR but then Mixon falls to 64. If I make both of those picks, my ADP CLV knows no different than if I took those players at ADP with Mixon at 57 and Jauan at 64.
I’ve thought about this before. I think you just take the ADP value and in this particular team you won’t end up with the uniqueness you were trying for. You can always just try again in another draft
Jayden, Penix, Gabriel, Garappolo
Henry, Chuba, Pollard, Tracy, Tuten, Sanders, Giddens
Nico, Rashee, Jamo, Zay, Mooney, Atwell
J Ferguson, Pitts, Ertz
Pretty lame that UD has removed to the 20 sec clock option to consolidate fast draft entries.
UD users on X are not happy lol.
Oh ****, that sucks. I love the 20sec, when did they remove that?
I’ve been able to get so much more volume in bc of the 20sec
Last night. I’m hoping the outrage will cause them to reconsider. The vast majority of people are siding with 20 secs.
I can either double table 20 secs or triple table 30 secs to reach roughly the same pick per time thresholds. I’d much rather double 20 secs.
Haha, all it took was for the goat to chime in.
On second thought, I joined two 30 sec Schnauzers before they switched back, and maybe we should keep it at only 30 seconds lol. This is one of the worst teams I've ever seen. Maybe they thought they were playing the Powerball.
My team is decent but nothing special. I took AR over Dimes in this one, as I'm at 9% Dimes and 4% AR, and I don't want to be that confident since they're the same price. I actually could have double tapped but opted for Shough.
Spoiler
Caleb, AR, Shough
Kyren, Kamara, Pollard, Ekeler, Shipley
Puka, London, Terry (fell to 41), Rome, Downs, Shaheed, Bateman
Loveland, Kincaid, Juwan
I like the second team more.
Spoiler
Baker, Fields (fell to 118), Penix
Bijan, Jacobs, Mondre, Rachaad, Shipley
DeVonta, Jamo, Godwin, Mooney, Coleman, McMillan, Thielen, Reynolds
McBride, Otton
Seems like when a live poker room offers both 1/2 NL and 1/3 NL ... why?
Usually when this happens you should opt to play in the 1/2 game because the field will be softer (even if you knew you would be the best player at either table).
Similarly, I have to believe the 30 second rooms attract significantly more beginners. 20 seconds is fast!
I'm not convinced that the less experienced prefer the 30 second clocks. Most people value their time above all else, so quicker drafts are generally preferred, imo. Most people drafting best ball, especially in June, know the player pool enough they likely don't need the extra 10 seconds.
I think 20 > 30 is further substantiated since the slow fill time complaints have been in the 30 sec lobbies.
It sounds like the clock speed offerings are still under consideration, but there was enough blow back from the elimination of 20 secs, they wanted to add it back for now.
Pretty rough wr corp here
Kyler, Tlaw, Rodgers, Dimes
Bijan, Cook, Brob, Warren, Corum, Ford
London, Hunter, Pittman, Keon, Tillman, M Wilson, R Wilson
Njoku, Muth, Ertz
My Greyhound entry. I pulled Gibbs up to the 1.02, since I think that's where he belongs. I also got a little weird with Trevor after taking Tuten at 119. Then Strange went 162 and Dyami went 165 lol.
The room was RB hungry. Pacheco/BRob at 72/73, Warren at 87, Charbs/Spears at 108/109, Javonte 113, Mondre 114, Rachaad 125.
I passed on Hollywood at 143/146, but it didn't feel great adding him without Mahomes. Got Ertz at 191. Hopkins at 215.
Purdy, Trevor, Dimes
Gibbs, Swift, Tuten, Guerendo, Allgeier, Wright
Rashee, Reek, Worthy, Pearsall, Pittman, Pierce, Hopkins
Kittle, Ertz

Haha that is pretty rough, but you only need 2! Pretty strong elsewhere, but taking 4 QBs in the top 100 makes it tough.
Yeah I panicked when I realized Tlaw and Kyler were both w8 byes, but probably only needed one of dimes/rodgers
Feel pretty good about this one
Maye, Geno, Dart, Milroe
Saquon, Henry, Cook, Sanders, Corum, Mostert
AJB, Worthy, Flowers, Meyers, Diggs, Ky Williams, Thornton
Njoku, J Ferguson, Taylor
I like it.
I got some good QB value here, but I'm drunk and ended up with 4 TEs lol. I don't think it's terrible.
Caleb, Herbert (11 past), Ward (19 past)
CMC, Mixon, Jones, Tuten, Ekeler
Ladd, Davante, DJM, Jauan, Higgins, Coker
Engram, Likely, Ertz, Chig
I like that one, 4te isn’t ideal, but I think a wider amount of structures are ok in sf

I've never waited more than two or three minutes on the 30 second. Is that considered long?

Well, how about a wider amount of structures in the Schnauzer?
haha. My bad, I should have said it wasn't SF. Ward falling to 185 threw me off, as I was planning to keep it 2 QB.
I did just pull off this 4 TE in SF, which I think was reasonable. I auto'ed Bryce, but I think it worked out. I was two tabling and was clicking in the wrong lobby for where I thought the pick was lol.
Lamar, Love, Bryce
Achane, Kyren, Charbs, Dowdle, Hill, Mostert
JSN, Tet, DeVonta, Reed, Golden, Bateman, Coker
Likely, Otton, Sanders, Musgrave

Na, that's pretty reasonable. Some people have been waiting 10-20 mins, depending on the contest. I think the main problem is that most people don't care about The Marathon, Sprint Eliminator, or Weekly Winners but UD keeps pushing these different contest structures. I think most people want the majority to be the standard 1 QB w15-17 playoff contests, with SF a secondary contest that there is still enough interest in.
I'd prefer BBM, 1 SF, and multiple $3-15 buy in 1 QB w15-17 playoff contests always in the lobby. I think they'd all consistently fill.

Oh haha, whoops I think it’s probably fine to do sometimes in 1qb, but usually with a later 1st te haha
Overall, I agree with jimmy. Looks good just drafting off of vibes! I'm not sure if you plan to do anymore, but a few adjustments I'd suggest, based on my understanding of the format which could certainly be wrong haha.1. Even more stacking, especially for QBs like Geno and especially when you add him to a team with Lamar/Caleb. The bar for Geno to hit your lineup over those
I'm warmed up for our drafts - just need the rest of the league to cooperate with my draft strategy. Lol
Not sure if I overdid the stacking here, but I tried to do a little more like you suggested. Figured I'd take 1 more shot. Little light at TE, tho. Drafting from the 3, sf again, projected 4th with this team:
QB: Allen, Caleb Willians, Dart
RB: Brown, Cook, Mixon, Kaleb Johnson, Skateboard, Ford
WR: Nabers, Moore, Pearsall, Coleman, Burden, McMillian, Douglas
TE: Loveland, Henry, Theo Johnson, Kmet
Completely forgot I had JT and took Giddens
Allen, Ward, Milroe, Garoppolo
JT, Harvey, Pacheco, Pollard, Najee, Giddens
Puka, Nico, Tet, Shaheed, Legette, Lockett, MVS
Engram, Kincaid, Chig
