What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 hand
did the score result from any wacky fundraising stroke shaving gimmick like buying string and mulligans or was it just a simple foursome playing best shot from each guy
No gimmicks whatsoever. No mulligans, no string, no max 2 putt rule, nothing. So much better this way. I donated the same amount of extra money, just put it into (non-winning) raffle tickets instead. And, an added bonus, they had one of the best catered meals I've ever had at a scramble.
I'm signed up for one in July that if is the same as past years will be pretty much the opposite - will have mulligans, 2 putt max and a mediocre meal.
Low 80s and sunny with varying winds from 5-15mph. Wind was a factor on nearly every hole. 87 41/466/14 fairways, 6/18 greens1 birdie, 4 pars, 10 bogeys, 3 doubles2 1-putts, 6 3-whacks. 40 putts all day. 3 3-putt bogeys. Played with a 2 handicap who commented how absurd some of the pins were. He had a several 3 putts also so I'm cutting myself some slack, but I still mis
Back to this Par 72 (35/37) 70/129 6,200 yards course for the 2nd day in a row. Hot. 95 and humid. Gusty winds. Almost didn't play, but compromised by taking a cart. I prefer to walk and typically do.
89 45/44
6/14 fairways, 7/18 greens.
6 pars, 9 bogeys, a double and 2 triples (both on the front).
3 1-putts, 7 3-putts. 40 putts. 4 3-putt bogeys. Greens are tough, but I was bad. Made 3 putts all day; 2 5-6 footers and a 40 footer for par on 18. Everything else was a foot or less clean up after a miss.
#9 was fun. 375 yard par 4 with slight uphill tee shot. Big tree in the right rough 125 yards out that can catch balls that start up the right side. My drive got knocked down by that tree in the rough. Hit a drawing 5-wood that ran 245 yards to 35 feet beyond the hole. 3-putt bogey.🙂
Crazy Situation
Thinned my wedge from 110 on #2 over the green. Didn't see it come down. We searched for a few minutes about 20 yards beyond the green, but then a gust of wind came and out of a tree fell the ball just beyond the green in the rough. Never seen that before.
Going to Vegas tomorrow (will be winning the WSOP $500 Freeze-Out on Monday) with my wife, so no golf until Friday.
hey easy, please post the link to your vegas trip report in here so we can rail
41-44-85. 1 birdie, 2 double bogeys. 70.3/133/6131
Hot and windy, challenging conditions. The driving range once again proved to be a perfect predictor - hit about a dozen balls beforehand and they were awful. Got on the course, striped it. Had a few scattered poor shots on the back nine, got tired, but overall about a B/B+ ball striking day. Wasted a few shots with poor chipping and I didn't really putt particularly well, but overall an okay round.
jealous Booker, thanks for sharing
Shot a 71 on a par 70 course then again i shot an 81 the day before not really too much difference to be honest. Looking to shoot a 67 then then move to the back tees. Would love to get invited to a poker player golf game i carry a 4.9 right now would love to absolutely crush negraneau in his game if he has anything going....
42 (par 35). No birdies, no double bogeys.
Another Tuesday night where I had no touch at all. Ball striking erratic but not bad.
48-44-92
would be fun to see a couple of pics if you happened to post them
either way, hope you and the spouse have an unforgetable time
nothing but fairways and greens my friend
Apes Hill booked for June. I will post pics. The resort is surprisingly reasonable.
Lots of elevation and even more wind. Aside from the greens being aerated, the course was in excellent condition. I left at least 5 strokes just for not knowing the course, but I'm also just not very good.

Very cool looking course.
appreciate the follow up Randall, although you conveniently didn't quote this portion of the conversation
speaking of eye candy, is it as tight off the tee box as those pictures look or is that more a visual trick before you drive?
either way, have fun the rest of your stay. 😉
Today I tried the stack and tilt method. I've been so inconsistent of late mainly with my driver. I've never looked at stack and tilt before but after looking at some videos I thought to myself I kind of setup like it anyway. The only thing I really do differently is move my weight behind and off the ball aka not staying centred when on the backswing.
I went to the range today hit a load of irons and made sure I didn't move off the ball and honestly it felt amazing. Felt like I could just turn as hard as I want. Ball flights were great for the most part. I struggled with a hook left shot and wasn't worried at all of getting that shot. They mostly went straight and sometimes I would push it a bit.
I decided to take it to the course and play 9 holes at my local using only irons. I missed 2 tee shots left on the 1st which was a foot off the fairway and the 3rd which I think I got lazy with + the wind was across and into. All other tee shots were straight or missed a little right of target. Into greens was a little funky mainly due to how far the ball was flying it was just going so much further. Honestly it felt great.
Now the driver is a different question. Before today I've had 0 confidence with it. It seems so long ago now when driver was the best club in my bag. Now I can top it, Skank it out the heel, Hit a toe ball and I even hit 2 feet behind the ball which is wild. I do understand the stack and tilt method and generally you're going to have to make some changes when using a driver vs irons. I tried it today at the range and it was horrid. I felt like I was so out of sync (I've felt like that before today) but never have I felt like I'm saving it so much with just throwing my hands at it. This might be a mental thing with me and ranges though. I've never really been able to hit drivers off mats not sure what it is about it could be in a enclosed space even though we have plenty of room.
would be awesome to read future updates UA1 as you work through things...curious how it all shakes out

I don't have the stats, but maybe only 2 bad fairway misses. A few where the sloped fairway took it just off, but not into bad rough and one where my draw went straight and missed the dogleg.
Only tight off the tee box on 2 holes. Both were only tight if you played from the back two tees (I played from the blues). The champion tees weren't always very far back, but often elevated, which did bring in some of the upper palm trees into play instead of just the trunks. I did like how they grouped the palm trees to create some blockers.
Also, this doesn't do it justice as you can barely make out the horizon, but this has to be one of the highest parts of the island. The elevation was definitely different than the other courses closer to the coast.

Got home from Vegas yesterday, back on my home course today (Par 72 36/36 70.3 124 6200yds)
44/43 87
11/14 fairways, 6/18 greens
8 pars, 7 bogeys, 2 doubles and a QUAD
4 1-putts, 2 3-putts, 34 all day.
Sniffed sub 40 on both sides but made QUAD on 9 and finished double, 3-putt-bogey on 17 and 18, respectively. Putting was much improved. Lags left me with makable putts that I actually made. 1 of the 3 putts was due to a horrible misread. Other was awful up/then downhill 35 footer on 18 that I left short. Made several 6-8 footers. “New” putter seems to be just what the doctor ordered.
45-42-87. No birdies, 3 double bogeys. 69.6/123/6139
Meh. Poor but not awful ball striking. Woeful short game couldn't salvage much. Only positive was that I was 2/2 out of greenside bunkers, both were nice shots to inside 3 feet.

(1) Drive goes way right and ends up wedged against the OB post, but on the good side. (2) Punch out 35 yards to the right rough, leaving me about 133 in. (3) In between clubs, end up fatting a wedge I was trying to clobber, ends up 50 yards out in the fairway. (4) get too cute trying to get it close to the front pin and leave my flop short on the front apron. (5) Shank a chip dead right. Haven't done that in ages. (6) Chip on. (7) miss it. (8) down. This hole isn't particularly difficult, I just made a mess of it.
appreciate the self deprication
"how'd you make an 8?"
"missed a 6 footer for 7."
42-41-83. No birdies, 1 double bogey. 70.3/133/6131
Kinda an all around B/B+ day. Had a random tip in my twitter feed this morning, put it to work with pretty good results.
Hit a good drive on the 9th hole and found myself between clubs coming in. I have a big gap between the 6i and the 6h and there I was. Decided to step on a 6i, with a little wind assist. Would have been 10 yards longer than stock. Hit it absolutely pure, best iron shot I've hit in a while, feeling good about flagging it ... and it came down on the fringe on the front of the green. WAT. Looked at the bottom of the club, oh ffs I pulled the 8 iron. Been a long time since I've done THAT. Still got up and down for a par.
lol...amazing
usually when i do that it's too much club and into the snack shack
Took some time away from a family reunion to play solo at a mountain golf course, par 69, 67.8/121 from the back tees at 6000 yards. The course is 9000 feet above sea level which made for some interesting distance calcs throughout the bag. The greens were pristine, shaggy/slow but hard and unreceptive, which combined with the longer ball flight had a couple wild results with short irons. In particular I struck a 8i well from 180 yards, and it ended up 30 yards past the green.
Front 9 was pretty steady, shot a 46 with several missed 4-5 foot par putts which was frustrating.
Starting on hole 10, I stopped finding any part of the club face and struggled through hole 15. Lost a bunch of balls. Managed to salvage a couple pars on the back 9 but it was not pleasant, posted 50 strokes on the back (+16) which included some equitable score control holes with numbers too big to mention. Differential 26.3 woof
