In the case of Bezos it is even worse. His ex-wife took a pretty big chunk of his wealth and donated it all to far left causes. So your tax dollars are paying for mega-yachts and extreme left causes.

What? It's not something I think about, but I would also love if everyone cut their grass with unpowered mowers. It would reduce the annoying noise in my suburban neighborhood, and people would be healthier from getting more exercise.

Eliminating power lawnmowers would take away one of the only joys of living in the suburbs.

They're already soulless enough so people should at least be able to keep their gas powered tools.

Charlie Kirk is most known for his incredibly weird and off-putting face which features a massive five-head and one of the gummiest smiles you'll ever see. He's second-most known for his racism.Jesus H. Christ, it's like you've never heard of the concept of figurative language and figures of speech. Did they not teach language skills on the replica of Noah's Ark that I assume

Another bad read, Commie.

The NAP is a personal preference. I cannot and i will not claim it's "good" for everyone to have a NAP based society. I never did claim that. I never hid the fact that the model of society i prefer is one in which i see myself and people like me having the most utility. I am not a kantian i don't need nor want my moral preferences to become universal.Arrow proved you cannot ev

I’m not sure how this theorem about spoiler candidates in certain voting systems “generalizes to social welfare functions” or what that even has to do with the point I’m trying to make

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow%27...

I’ll try one last time to get the message across because right now we’re talking past each other I feel. If you’re going to say, hey look at all this progress we made from rising GDP, like obviously it’s not the GDP in itself that is what we’re valuing. So you’re appealing to something that is getting better, but that just means that you really do accept that there can be progress.

So you don’t really get to make the move of saying that progress doesn’t exist because that’s what you’re using to motivate a desire to support capitalism.

Now if instead you appealed to something like wellbeing or utility, well then you don’t really have a means of dismissing progressivism that are not empirical questions of whether they increase utility.

So then you might want to say there is some deontic reason to reject progressivism, but then that should just lead you to another set of standards that can’t really be quantified either according to you, because it’s a theory of how you should behave socially, which you can’t appeal to according to you because there isn’t a best way to behave socially. Hence why you don’t want to go back to the past and focus on the negatives, because there’s no arc of history to bend towards.

You must be demented.
For exemple I'd like everyone to cut their grass with human powered lawn mower.
That would improve decibels meters and not really correlates with per capita gdp.
Explain yourself, now!

You are either trolling or mentally unhealthy

Why?
Noise is one of the biggest nuisance there is.
You see everything under the scope of efficiency/profit.
You probably think mobile phones are the best invention ever and are patiently awaiting the man/machine fusion.

I think the main benefits of being in the suburbs are being able to have more space to yourself, and having more peace and quiet than you would in the city. But with all the gd power tools used around here, it's actually noisier during the day than it was when I lived in the city.

very surprised you live in the suburbs, would have always pictured a downtown walkup with a darkly lit stairwell and hallway that could have easily been used for filming sin city

you can ask for noise to be regulated in public areas without going straight to bans.

and btw rich neighborhoods have less noise than poor neighborhoods, so yes that as well correlates with gdp

My side is a continuation of classic liberalism yes. Material conditions improve with capitalism and technology, and Dickensian UK was still a marvelous place compared to other places at the time. Of Australia Argentina and the USA were better because more land available per person at the time automatically meant more resources per person.

You don't know anything about Victorian London, you fool.

for a better source on how Arrow denies you can "optimize" for a group (which means no social welfare function to try to maximize can exist).

as for progress I didn't deny material progress can and do happen. I deny "progress" the way progressives strive (or pretend to strive) for is an improvement.

having more material resources with the same population is intuitively always better, that's my basic axiom. I suppose you deny this? it goes fast into sophistry and we can lose a ton of time but in general if someone thinks that food being scarce, or antibiotics not existing, can be "better" I won't waste too much time discussing with him.

Given Arrow though there is no way to optimize what to do collectively with those resources , how to arrange, how to redistribute them, so you shouldn't even try to plan that.

progressives want to decide for others basically, and that cannot work (to improve wellbeing, to "progress"). in an impossibility sense.

higher per Capita GDP is just a very rough, very simple (but surprisingly good) measure of material prosperity ("having more stuff").

yes i completely deny the arc of history (for the "non material" elements) exists or can exist.

In other news:

columbia got hacked, and all the recent admission data became public.

Cremieux got the data and is talking with the DoJ because the data clearly proves Columbia is still race discriminating in college admissions

https://x.com/cremieuxrecueil/status/193...

Really hope something big comes out of this with exemplary punishment (under the law) for the people who criminally racial discriminate.

Being a social mammal doesn't mean that the proper size of society is "an unlimited number of random unfiltered individuals most of which only survived because my bloodline got taxed to hell to keep them alive, or because we didn't slaughter them when we had the chance".

You know wars happened right? and happened in the past? and in every war of conquest / reunion there is a wide range of options available for the winner? and often enough the winner just eliminates most of the losers, like the USA did with natives?
