Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
It's silly and useless to change the official name of anything just because it has fallen into common derogatory usage.
In addition to the disputed word, all of these other words were originally words used by medical professionals, psychologists, social workers, and teachers, to describe individuals of lower mental capability:
Idiot
Moron
Imbicile
Cretin
There are probably others as well.
In a phenomenon known as linguistic pejiration, each time a word becomes more commonly used as an insult, the official word is changed to be non-offensive.
Similar changes have been made in the terms used to describe individuals with physical disabilities and even in the words used to describe the waste excreted by the human body, and the room in which the excretion is typically done.
Just in my lifetime, the preferred term to describe Americans descended from those who came here from Africa, mostly as slaves, has changed at least 5 times.
But it's a pointless project, as the new words will eventually all be considered offensive. I have already heard of children insulting other children by calling them "mentally disabled". There is really no way to have a name for people (or things) which will not be used in a derogatory manner by those who look down upon them, and I think it's time to stop trying to do so.
The whole "don't talk about posters while they are banned" thing is silly. That's exactly the time to talk about them. Who wants to talk about people following the rules and not getting banned? Not me.Plus, you've just gotten banned. Part of the punishment should be to have to watch people talk about you from your alternate account while you can't respond, and maybe just maybe i
If there is a short ban, then I agree with the rule for the reason rick said. But when a poster appears to have been perma'd, it seems silly to make everyone pretend for all time as if the poster never existed.

you can however police language (if that's the owners preference) forbidding references to stupidity or disability in general when addressing other posters. references to race are already forbidden if used as an insult.
I agree it is a mistaken to ban re tard when discussing people with IQ under 85 that exist in society , but it's not weird to ban it's use when addressing other posters

All true. I made a similar point, not so eloquently, once, on unstuck. Led to a ban if I recall. Actually it led to wookie telling me to not use the offending word, and I told him to go suck my fat one. That led to a ban.
The offending word was "r-" and my reasoning was as quoted above. I stand by it.

I mean, dude did a kamikaze. I'm sure being talked about is what he would have wanted.

It makes exactly as much sense as banning calling other posters idiot or moron.
Colored (slightly before my birth)
Negro
Afro-American
Black
African-American
Person of color
BIPOC
lol, "person of color" and "BIPOC" are not synonymous with "black," those words are used in entirely different contexts. "Afro-American" was briefly popular in the 60's but I'm not sure it was ever the main term used, and anyway it's not super different from "African-American." You could have lived your entire life just saying "black" or "African-American" and been quite fine.
but anyway, I've wasted way too much time of my life arguing politics in a place in which I've never seen anybody's politics change, the ultimate mental masturbation, so I'm gonna perma myself
Peace out P+S. May see you in a year or so after I get bored and make a new account.
Bye!!!
I might go waste my time with the libs on Unstuck Politics. Did you all know that they have a spinoff of their spinoff?
Unstuck is essentially a support-group for disgruntled lefties.
I got permabanned for pointing that out a about dozen times too many.
Funny thing is, I don't recall any pushback on the propositional content of my observation.
I think it's more "they're already banned so let's not beat a man while he's down" sort of thinking. Which I can appreciate to an extent but if someone comes along and gives people something to talk about we should let them talk. If instead of being banned they were in a hospital bed then I'd have more sympathy.
I think any posts that weren't deleted are fair game.
But that's different than discussing the poster.
Nope. Just telling the mods to act how they please. The fact that both posts are still up, as well as your toxic crap tells me they will anyway and again are seemingly okay with this place becoming 4chan.
Now I've no desire to be part of this discussion and I'm sticking you on ignore, 'bye now.
No. If you find a post offensive, or one that you think breaks the rules, you should click on report post. That's what it's there for, ritard.
Instead you came in here and started mocking them for not deleting a couple of posts within hours of them being made and demanding they do their jobs, etc., when this thread isn't for reporting posts or being a douchebag.
Had you reported both of those posts using the proper reporting methods and nothing was done about it, then a use of this thread would be to ask something like, "Hey, I reported a couple of posts a week ago and I see they are still up - I was wondering why they didn't fall under the rules for deletion. Can anyone please clarify? Thanks."

My first temp-ban here (in 2017) was for using a word that offended the sensibilities of the Leftist Mob of Pea Brains running the show.

Yes. Corpus and others feel that if you change the name, you change the condition.
Eventually the word disabled will become offensive because the prefix dis is a negative. It already has with people using the phrase differently abled. Just people that keep bullshitting themselves.
Like George Carlin said, eventually a rape victim will be referred to as an unwilling sperm recipient because people don't like language that reminds them of awful things.
Eventually you will not be able to say, "Jim has cancer" because that makes people who don't have cancer uncomfortable, so it will be replaced with something like, "Jim's cellular processes are differently abled and have been good at reprogramming dendritic cells causing T cell exhaustion."
I think it would be appropriate to delete any posts in which he falsely accused me of being a child molester.
Right... yet you think it's perfectly acceptable to call someone that name if you first preface it with, "It wouldn't surprise me if you're..."
That's why you're the faux Christian...

Well said.

Upon reflection, probably also appropriate to delete "It wouldn't surprise me if you're..." posts as well.
Having said that, I suspect there might be a legal difference between:
"It wouldn't surprise me if Joel Osteen is a child-molester" and "Joel Osteen is a child-molester."
All this is reminding me of that time Victor called me "redacted" because leftists don't use the word ******, ldo.
I tend to believe people. its a fault of mine. I totally believe that d2 is indeed that redacted.
Oh, how we laughed. Good ****.
Can't find it now, but Victor later said something like "I don't use that word" to which Rococo replied something along the lines of "That's as ridiculous as saying you don't say f@ggot, because you replace the "a" with an "@" every time". I can't top that response.
