WNBA 2025 Season Thread
MOAR expansion teams coming, including the RETURN OF THE SHOCK
WNBA expanding to Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia over next five years.
Collier is only -260 MVP? seems like that should be -500
basically injury only thing stopping it

I feel like Vegas was been completely sleeping on the Valkyries. Every time they win a game, Vegas updates their win total by that amount but has barely been shifting their rating. Not until the blowout over Seattle did they finally make a big shift.
It felt literally zero priced in that they were getting 5 (now 4) rotation players back from Eurobasket, basically the same as the rest of the league combined. I have as much as I can on o15.5, 16.5, 17.5 and 19.5 and still think it's value. Wish my alts could bet more.
Only seen one Washington game this year but was really surprised at how organized and well coached they looked. They were running tons of great sets. Bullish them as well.
Up to +1800 some places now.
I have no idea what has happened to them this year. Aja missed a couple games, but they've been absolute ass. Seems most likely just rand? You could maybe buy "Kelsey Plum was more integral than you realized" as she's averaging 21, 6 and 3 for LA, but only on 38% shooting and they're 5-11 so idk
wow nice one on the Valkyries! I missed the boat
the couple games I watched the SF crowd was going completely nuts, cheering their team every game like it's the super bowl. even when Caitlin Clark was in town. she usually has tons of fans cheering for her, but the SF crowd was hardcore cheering for their Valkyries.
also, seems like a really good team vibe. the players and coaches seem to be really supportive and committed and enthusiastic.
I think vibes are underrated in the W. When I added up all the players on Conn's team in the preseason, I got about the same total as Vegas, 10 or 11 or something. But they just dumped 4 starters, are selling the team, refuse to let Mabrey go and were basically dead in the water. Surely those horrible vibes are worth something? Sounds like the most toxic environment possible. That under is super in the money now.
my guess is there is going to be a strike. the players are making no money, and now there is an audience for the game.. just the eyeballs on the game have far outpaced the money the players are getting.
arenas are selling out. national TV. and players making like 40k a year iirc
I mean I think it's really great and refreshing they are not obscenely wealthy like male athletes. they aren't in an Uber wealthy class, with multiple mansions... but they should have ****ing financial security and comfort! jfc!
Very funny Smith trade and very funny VanLoo waiver

the wnba is projected to lose 40 million this year, which is a massive improvement over the 50 million they lost last year (and expected to lose this year as well)
how is that possible? they pay the players nothing, and sell out arenas and have nationally televized games regularly

They are lucky to have a league and to be paid to play. It does seem to be getting more popular but more in a professional wrestling type of way. They have some good characters in the league. They have villains. They have heroes. They have some pretty ladies as well. The quality of basketball is not good. I'm surprised the play is not better than it is.
wnba needs more violence CC hate and controversy.

they only sell out the caitlin clark games
last year attendance nearly doubled, but it was still less than 10k per game
Atlanta Dream play in a 3.5k max capacity venue
in 2023 they led the league with 12 sellouts (of 24 games) so they were usually playing in front of an empty stadium that probably lost money to staff and operate
they sold out all 24 games last year and should do so again this year, but also, we're talking a 3.5k seat stadium in the 6th largest metro region in all of america
the valkyries are leading the league in attendance. 17,428 a game. in 18,064 capacity arena
and the dream have the worst attendance in the league, them and the mystics by a lot
Phenomenal game in Atlanta last night.

I talked with somebody who is extremely involved (i.e. part of the upcoming CBA negotiation) and they said it was a lot more complicated than that and not really true that they lose money, and hasn't been true for several years.
They have weird tiered ownership structures and stuff with some teams being independent (Sun), some owned by NBA franchises and some with lots of NBA central ownership. I think some of the parties are making money and some are not. Wish I could remember the details more clearly.
another tweet from the villain of the W. look how ungrateful she is. look how much her team hates her

The WNBA has been a loser it's entire existence. They might finally be making money because of CC.
I'd wager they are still losers. The TV contracts don't match the expectations. No one has any ****ing idea when these games are on.
that's a pretty sick 5 game stretch
