I do think you're getting more authoritarian and populist. That's a far cry from Nazi Germany though. I absolutely agree with your last sentence and in many ways this is the crux of the matter, as that's why I'm quite confident Trump will be gone in 3.5 years. The American people rightly regard freedom as sacrosanct. If Trump tried messing with that, I think it's extraordinarily likely it would lead to civil war and I suspect such a civil war would be more akin to the Irish troubles- a grind of paramilitary violence lasting several years, combined with states actually seceding.

I just tend to find comparisons with Nazi Germany or even Putin's Russia melodramatic personally. That said it's not my country, so it's easier for me to see things in a more detached manner. But I certainly understand American fears re the authoritarianism aspect anyway.

Dunno about that. He's served only around 10 months, give or take and the charges he was convicted on carry a potential of 10 years. He'll get the credit for time served, but I presume it's a Federal conviction and if so, he'll have to do 85% of whatever he's sentenced to.
