New fast food discussion/review thread

OK OOT, it's been a while since we had a devoted fast food thread around here and I think it's time we had a new one.

I think I'm done with Rick's.

For good.

Rick had a new LTO, a spicy sausage mcmuffin, so I had to try it. Pepper sauce is decent, has a little kick, but like most fast food "spicy" it's not that spicy. Enjoyed it but I'll probably just stick with the regular.

Rick's app deals have generally sucked lately, but the buy one get one for $1 menu has been clutch, two double cheeseburgers for under $5 is a solid meal.

McDonald's survey BOGO promo remains very strong.

I love how it stacks with sandwiches that are on discount.

Please describe this process.

Please describe this process.

On Fridays several of the McDonald's around me offer filet-o-fish for $3.50. If I use the receipt survey promo bogo, the system gives me two for the reduced price.

I was near a BK, and decided to visit. Open the app, and notice two offers I might use:
1) Free any size fries with $1 purchase
2) Free Rodeo burger with $1 purchase

I look over the menu, and see Duo for $5 or Trio for $7, mix of Whopper Jr, Orig Chix Sandwich, and Bacon Cheeseburger. I figure I'll get this and add the free fries.

Apparently the free fries cannot be paired with the Duo or Trio. A red message appears in the checkout menu. Ok, fine, I'll add a $1.50 sundae to my order. The red message still appears and can't use the offer.

Ok, I take away the trio and the free fries offer is released. But I really wanted the Trio. So I add back the Trio, and it goes back to the red message. Wtf.

I noped out of everything and went home.

Fish and Chips from the Oyster 'fast food' bar...

Big Sur Oyster Bar at Southpoint, get there before 4pm.

Yeapers... i wish they allowed take out when I am playing there.
Actually, I am not sure if they do or if they do not... I am going to have to ask next time if I can call in an order.

Which?

If this is true, how did you limit yourself to one?

$11.99 each plus tax & resort fee?

Which?

Are we talking about if they are prepared optimally, or are we taking into account variance? For almost every one of these options (other than CFA), variance with fries is huge.

"Bad" fries prepared properly are >>>> "good" fries done badly.

If you get hot, fresh, fully cooked BK fries they're very good, but most BKs I've been to refuse to give you those and instead give you undercooked cold fries that are completely inedible.

Don't think I've ever had a bad order of CFA fries, but their ceiling is lower than perfect fries from Rick or Wendy.

Then again tbqh I don't often get fries, I'd rather have more burger.

Thank you. I know I’ve asked before, but keep forgetting the process.

Booker is right on with the fries. It comes down to freshness and a lot of subjective experiences.

I never get them anymore because who can afford to eat there, but 5 Guys fries isn't on the picture but may be my favorite overall, certainly in the top 5.

Went to Culver's for the first time in ages because I just found out there's been one like 10 minutes from me for almost 2 years.

Got the Wisconsin Double. Solid. Super greasy.

But the best was I tried their custard for the first time. Got a pint of some Reese's one to take home, and they did not skimp on the toppings at all. Easily worth the $6.

Culver’s is elite FF

I found myself with a random BK craving, and was on my own so decided that was the dinner plan. Was digging the idea of a double whopper, however, my app deal had the How To Train Your Dragon LTO stuff on deal, including the HTTYD Special Whopper (with red bun, bacon, cheese and special seasoning), fiery mozzarella sticks, and strawberry lemonade for $11.59. This compared to a whopper meal for around $14 and double whopper meal for around $15 IIRC; better price and I was intrigued by the spicy mozz sticks, so dragon me up.

The dragon whopper... tasted exactly like a whopper. I am positive I would not be able to tell the difference between that and a regular whopper blindfolded. That said, whoppers are tasty, so it's not a complaint. Just nothing out of the ordinary. My patty had obviously been sitting around a while - I noticed at some point that the app lets you specify 'off the broiler' now, but I stupidly forgot to hit that button when actually ordering the combo.

The spicy mozz sticks actually had a little bit of a kick to them (just a little, but it was there). Sadly, I didn't like the flavor very much even though I appreciated the spicy. I feel BK mozz sticks are pretty underrated in general, I'd go back to the original for sure. Strawberry lemonade was pretty decent, equivalent to the wendy's lemonades I'd say.

I also decided I wanted a little bit more on the plate. Sadly BK's cheap burgers and sandwiches are pretty trash compared to McDs, so I wondered about a oval chicken sandwich. $7.19 a la carte! But, included on the Duo menu - so I can get a OCS for $7+, or a OCS + fries (or whopper jr) for $5? I didn't want fries but you're kind of forcing my hand here. OCS was right down the middle, it's objectively not that good but the combo of white bread, mayo, lettuce and reconstituted chicken just works in the lizard part of my brain. I also think BK fries are underrated, and the couple I ate were delicious (very potato-y). This does remind me about an annoyance I have with BK, though: many of their specials, deals etc. only let you choose fries, not fries or onion rings or 50/50. Why? They're the same price on the menu, and with combos I can choose, but on things like the Duo deal it's fries only. I want some rings and zesty dammit. But, fries are good enough to go 50/50, not full rings.

Somehow I was surprised when the $18 and change total rang up - in my head the $11 combo + ~$2.50 for the chicken sandwich I wanted meant it should be about $15 after tax, forgetting I was buying the fries too even though I didn't want them. Oh well, $18 is too much to spend at BK but the itch was scratched. Will be back in 9-15 months I'm sure.

I would have just scratched the itch at Chili's for $11 or Red Robin on a Tuesday for $10.

😀

At least you tried it! Every time I open the app, that burger stares at me.

BTW

Today's TB drop is a $1 Chalupa Supreme. Must grab the deal between 2-3pm PDT.

$10 Cheeseburger Tuesdays
Tuesdays just got more delicious! For a limited time only, our NEW! thicker, juicier Red Robin Gourmet Cheeseburger is only $10 on Tuesdays. We’ll make it an even better value by throwing in a side of our signature Bottomless Steak Fries

crikey what a deal. there's like over a dozen in the greater Seattle metro, none closer than 30 minutes. I've yet to step foot in a chili's, maybe I should make that happen in 2025... checks google

permanently closed...

Well not this year

I just saw that California Fish Grill is now open in Las Vegas! Great food, great prices.

I recommend the shrimp tacos, the fish and chips or anything really on the menu. (lol)

CFA app game Code Moo is now available! This weeks reward is a free waffle fries.

No Chili's in Seattle :( I love me a southwest eggroll. And, I have a ton of fondness in my heart there for being I believe the first place I ever tried a spicy fried chicken sandwich back in the 90s.

My local chilis in/around Arlington VA also ran free wings and chips and salsa during MNF in the early 00s if you can believe that. It was a serve your self buffet that they consistently understocked so you only ended up getting like 8-10 free wings in the 3.5 hours, but still, amazing all the same.

Red Robin was founded in Seattle, but I'm shocked to learn there's 12+ in the area, the only one I can think of is in Northgate...
