I think it was the old version that was down while the new one remained up...now when logging in I'm getting a Cloudfare verification thing that I don't recall seeing before.

I don’t understand what you’re saying here really. Are you arguing that studying what causes differences in population in terms of intelligence is a waste of time because we know the average person of a population group won’t be good at physics? Because I feel like even small increases in intelligence can improve overall productivity and quality of life, so if we could maximize the environmental factors it would be worthwhile to do so.

But even if there wasn’t anything to squeeze out of that orange, it’s still a necessary aspect of genetics, neuroscience, and sociology (and other disciplines I’m sure) that we figure out why these things are happening. I’m not sure why we would just give up on it just because the conclusions that we could theoretically draw will make us uncomfortable if those are what the inference motivates.

The problem is that the left (especially woke leftists) explain everything through oppression narratives. So for example intelligence is highly correlated with positive outcomes like income, not being incarcerated, life expectancy, etc. So then the left who loves playing identity politics more than any other mainstream political movement will identify differences in group outcomes and then attribute them oppression narratives. And as we've seen over the last decade, they've been very successful in created massive identity based division.

Although this can be a very useful political tool, the total misdiagnosis just leads to more negative outcomes than necessary for the groups they proclaim to care about. IQ being one example

Isn’t this just kicking the can down the road though? Because you haven’t actually rejected the entire principle of measuring intelligence, just that you don’t think IQ is a good measurement.

No, you basically undercut your point. If you agree there is little to no difference in population wide intelligence levels you are not studying genetics, sociology etc by focusing on it. All you are studying is the limits of intelligence testing itself. I'm not worried about any conclusions, I just don't think we really have the tools to say anything meaningful about such small and noisy differences in high uncertainty testing.

I wasn’t suggesting that we look at IQ and make inferences about sociology, neurology, psychology, etc.

But yes, I said it wasn’t well-isolated and I stand by that. That’s not to say that no population data is well-isolated. There are lots of pieces of medical data where we’ve seen certain illnesses being frequent in a population and use that to understand whether those are genetic or environmental causes.

I remember a recent story of identical twins, brought up separately in Sweden (or Norway, I forget) and the US, who, without knowledge of each other till early middle age, found that they wore identical moustaches and the same style glasses, had married at the same time to similar looking women, had the same number of children and were doing the same job (they were each the fire chief in a provincial town of the same size population). They must have had quite similar upbringing, but still.

This delaying for 15 seconds or sometimes not at all whenever I want to open 2p2 in a new tab due to this Cloudfare verification is problematic.

Almost as problematic as entitled dog owners with their dogs running loose in leashed areas.
