Have you ever considered running on a treadmill? You can set one up in a place where no person or animals can bother you. I think you'll love it.

Suppose I have my dog off leash in the national forest (which I'm not even sure is against the law but let's assume it is)
Is that worse than driving 5 mph over the speed limit? 10 mph over the speed limit? 20 over? How serious of an offense would you rate a leash infraction like this to be?

You seem to be a petard and not understand that going 10mph over the speed limit when there are no cars on the road is different than whizzing between rush hour traffic going 10mph over the speed limit.
Context. You having an untrained dog roaming around off-leash bothering people and other pets is way different than you having a very well-behaved dog off-leash that doesn't cause anyone any issues. The latter just makes you a special douchebag; the former makes you that and a nuisance.

My gfs dog got out one day when she lived on the edge of a smaller town and managed to get into the cow farm next door.
He was clearly playing with a cow that was rearing up on its hind legs and trying to stomp the life out of the doggo

The chances of a deer attacking your dog if the dog is off leash are remote, although it certainly can happen. The chances of a deer attacking your dog if you are walking the dog on a leash are very close to zero.
