I'm long past being surprised by news like this, but this one really makes me sad :(

Has there ever been a successful story about a player who actually paid back a large sum of debt?
I would assume that if you are a sponsored pro, you are probably being paid well from the sponsors?
Would that be a reason to lend to a player like that?
I donβt know much at all how it goes behind the scenes? I know a lot of players lend to one another, no?
EP has been in the game a long time and I hope he can somehow repay his debts, if true.
Badgered
Ivey owed Negreanu a "large" sum by 1990s poker standards at one point. He immediately paid it after going on a run and never asked for a loan since. At least not that anyone is willing to admit.
This comes from Negreanus blog or something back in the day..I dont remember

He best call Erik Lindgren for advice
I'm the furthest thing from an internet detective and have no idea who JMO is, but it also says @****ycake123.
Pretty funny name but hard to take too serious.
JMO is a serious guy. Seriously ****y

he's a former highstakes player turned investor (crypto and other stuff), networth in the 8-9 figures range, it doesn't get more serious than that, the guy is for real.
stakes triton guys and others on a regular basis, buys huge % of guys in the main at late stages (deep in the money) and so on.
his twitter is ****y sometimes, i'll give you that, he doesn't hold back ... but on a matter like this i'll trust his word 100%
on elky: sad to hear this, but doesn't surprise on the other hand. he relied on his oldschool reputation and winnings from back in the day for a long time, was invited to leon's game at kings from time to time, but even there you could clearly tell he was scared money, playing way above his bankroll (most likely staked also).
Elky was a great European role model once. Sad story.
Wonder where the money has gone. Not poker?
Wait isnβt he supposed to make millions from those private highstakes GG games?

Not sure how well this stood the test of time. It kind of seems like most of his poker career has been one big freeroll. Wasn't there a period of several years where he got millions in loans from a ponzi scheme that he was never required toi pay back? Must be nice!
Sad to hear. Elky is a legend
I don’t understand how this happens so often in the community.
You donβt understand how this happens so often? Do you play poker and/or gamble ?
It happens so often because poker and gambling in general attracts these kinds of people more so than other areas of life. It's just proximity IMO - these people are everywhere but gnats tend to congregate around the most sugary foods
Elky was cool 20 years ago but hes been a mediocre player at best for years. He showed what kind of person he is when he championed the "VIP only" tables on GG where he as an ambassador was still allowed to play. And he couldnt even print in those games thats how bad he is these days. No surprise.
It saddens me to see one of the poker boom early stars fall from grace, having your reputation tarnished by associating yourself with Jason Mo must be devastating for Elky.
Was Elky the VIP in those private gg games and people berated him for not standing up for the pro community? Oh wow
