CN posts edgy generalizations to provoke people, and morons take the bait every time, I think it's great sport. Just look at LOL flailing around with his "But I have professional acquaintances who are female!", tell me that's not fun.

lol is that what that post was? There was no way I was reading that ****.

by Rococo m

Posting edgy generalizations to provoke people is certainly the modern way to internet. My relative lack of enthusiasm for that style is probably attributable to some combination of personality, age, and general disdain for the current political environment.

Marilyn Frye is a radical feminist who is still alive and active. She frequently clashes with other feminists for being too moderate and concerned with not ruffling the feathers of their oppressors. I prefer Marilyn’s style. The meek actually don’t inherit the earth.

The cat lady discussion and the attached implications about masculinity were misogynistic on some level

Was that before Vance's comment or after? To me, it was just quicker to say that than go on a long description of owning a large litter of cats. The tone in the usage from Vance was definitely derisive.

Is she trolling? I'm not familiar with her all that much. Just her beating on lagtight here and there. I gather from this recent discourse, though, that she's lesbian (though I'm not sure) and detests men asking her out and especially checking her out and what not.

But, do tell... do true misogynists entrust their money and health to females?

by Crossnerd m

Listen, I get why individual posters might feel personally implicated and attacked when I (or others) critique a system that you’re all a part of, but it’s far more important to recognize that almost all feminist critiques focus on structures and patterns rather than individuals. The point isn’t that you, specifically, are to blame,

I wholeheartedly agree with the bolded. I am not resisting that idea at all. I don't think that agreeing with Marilyn Frye's description of the world is a necessary prequisite for agreeing with the bolded.

As for your statement that I am unwilling to engage with the critique, I don't know what else to say. In several respects, it doesn't seem to accurately describe most of the people I know. I am skeptical that it accurately describes a large enough percentage of people to be vital as a generalization. I specifically identified the part that seemed the closest to accurate imo. I don't know where else to go in terms of responding to that specific quote.

Unmarried cat ladies are one of the happiest demographics, btw. Unmarried men are one of the unhappiest. Curious, huh?

Xo gotta go guys

LMAO you were right trolly

Roc, I understand that it doesn’t resonate with you, but that doesn’t make it less true. And the fact that it’s a very standard and accepted piece of feminist theory should at least give some pause as it relates to its relevance and contextual accuracy across cultures.

I'm firmly in the camp of I had no idea what I was missing with cats until my wife wanted one. Cats are like the best thing on the planet. Married catdads (??) have to be among the happiest, in my book.

Yes

**** me, you're dumb. See this is why the edgelord bit is so much fun, it gets the absolute worst posters to tell on themselves.

LMAO you were right trolly

Why won't you answer LOL's question?

If you forgot what it was, I'll rephrase:

Would a misogynist trust their health and finances to a female?

LOL: can you explain to us how you figured out she's a lesbian? What was the tell?

by Crossnerd m

I won't even begin to comment on the accuracy of her statement as it applies to other cultures, none of which I understand intimately enough to have an informed opinion.

The mere fact that it is an accepted piece of feminist theory doesn't settle the issue for me. As I said, academics -- even highly influential ones -- often disagree with each other. Foucault has written many standard and accepted pieces that fall generally in the category of postmodernism. But I don't feel compelled to view the world through the same lens that he did.

Because it's a stupid question. The answer is obviously yes. cAn A rAcIsT rEaLlY hAvE bLaCk FrIeNdS??????/

It's as dumb a question as would a person who dislikes vegetables ever eat broccoli. Or would a person who hates to fly get on a plane? Or would a person that robs banks ever fill out a withdrawal slip?

Just a dumb question. It thinks it's proving something but lacks any actual perspective on the world.

And this is why you're reetarded. Nothing I said is negative toward lesbians or feminists.

But is it actually true? Do men actually respect and revere other men more than women? It doesn't resonate with me either.

And even if I do maybe prefer male novelists there is still Virginia Woolf.

by Gorgonian m

Because it's a stupid question. The answer is obviously yes.

Thank you for answering the question.

I personally believe that the answer is clearly "No."

I think a misogynist would trust their car or their computer to a female, but not their health and wealth.

Honestly I’m over the discussion, and don’t really care if I’m agreed with on whether or not it’s homophobic. She was obviously trying to be provocative and evoke that men really do love each other more than women. She called it man-love. She also thinks that men engage in penis worship.

But in context these are much less about saying men are gay for loving other men, but rather a dual criticism of both male heterosexual culture and male homosexual rights advocacy. She thinks that male homosexuals at the time were simply affirming their right to use anything as a hole. If you think that’s an exaggeration, go read it in context.

She also states that gay bars are centers of misogyny.

But all this to say she places a special emphasis on the role of lesbians in anti-heteronormative epistemology etc and that’s really supposed to be the role of denigrating male homosexual culture.

If you all don’t want to find these things homophobic, fine, but I do think that it’s intentionally playing on homophobic tropes for the purposes of subversion of the heteropatriarchy or whatever. She certainly takes advantage and knows she’s being provocative and evocative when she says these things.

Unsurprising.

But how did you figure it out?

LOL: can you explain to us how you figured out she's a lesbian? What was the tell?

I'm pretty sure that CN has said that she has a husband and at least one kid.

Like I said, I don't know for sure. I tend to skim dense posts and skip AI posts. I call it Luciom's disease so sometimes I miss relevant sections.

Just a dumb question.

These comparisons are reetarded. They also prove that you don't take misogyny seriously if you're going to compare it to a dude eating broccoli.

That might be the worst analogy I've ever seen in my life.

LOL could have chosen from among dozens (hundreds?) of coaches and financial advisors, and he chose women.

It's not like Trump choosing women to his cabinet, which could easily be for political optic purposes.

by Crossnerd m

Unmarried cat ladies are one of the happiest demographics, btw. Unmarried men are one of the unhappiest. Curious, huh?

Xo gotta go guys

Unmarried cat ladies are one of the creepiest demographics. They are basically female incels who realize no guy will ever want to be with them so they just keep acquiring cats. They have given up trying to find a human partner. We often say I bet that weirdo owns a bunch of cats and we end up being close to 100% correct.

It's probably true that a happily married man is happier than an unmarried man. I would question how many men are happily married. Also, out of those happily married men, how many will eventually get a divorce? My uncle was happily married for 25 years. One day his wife told him she had fallen in love with another man and was leaving him. He never saw it coming. He ended up in a hospital for severe depression.

I don't think unmarried men are necessarily unhappy. I think many men enjoy not having to deal with women. I do think their life would be more fulfilling if they were in a happy relationship. Unfortunately, happy relationships are very rare. I believe the main reason for this is that people are only as faithful as their options. Most people just settle for whatever they can get. They soon realize how pathetic this is.
