Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
Who exactly was this hurting? He had his opinions just like you do. Were people actually complaining about him? Isn't it good to here different opinions?
Also, why now? If he was so awful shouldn't he have been banned a long time ago?
What are you replying to exactly? I said multiple times I donβt think he should be banned.
Iβm making a comment on how often he called for people to be executed.
He was banned for being Luciom
the mods could have also banned him 12 months ago, or 18, or 6. It was recommended by the broader mod group that he get permabanned nearly a year ago
Last I checked there wasn't anything in the rules about Luciom being a bannable offense.
People need to be banned based on actual posts. That's all I've ever asked for and something mods here seem unable to do in too many cases.
Remember when Victor was banned for a month because of nothing? I do. Just stop running the forum like a dictatorship and create some rules.
i'm pretty active outdoors - i've heard a lot of the "i don't hike alone anymore" stories and not once have i heard men discard iti've been told that wild did a pretty good job handling it - the uncertainty and sketchiness and awkward situation of trying to decide if you're going to be a total karen based on a hunch or if horrible things are going to happen to you because you w
I'm going to Rocky Mountain National Park in a couple weeks. I'll be hiking some 13ners and 14ners. I'll be alone because the people I'm with aren't in shape for this. I have zero fear of being attacked by any person or animal. You just have to be aware and smart.

Let me know if you want any recommendations for hikes, things to see, places to eat etc
In Luciom's specific case mods could have just waited until there was a post calling or attempting to justify violence against some group (presumably leftists) and banned him then.I assume he has made those posts and I think I've even read some of them.Instead he was banned for arguing for.....free speech. As a general principal though and to your point, the rules need to be wri
So let me make sure I understand your argument
In your mind, the litany of posts he made advocating for the death of his perceived ideological enemies by any means necessary were banworthy
He made these posts ad nauseum and you are either just finding that out now or you know that he did and think because he was not banned for those explicitly then he can’t be banned for something else
Him being banned now is some grave injustice akin to say, nailing Capone for tax evasion
That about sum it up?
I wasn't commenting on specific bans or where the lines should be. I simply was objecting to a myopic focus on the most recent posts. If I popped in exactly once per day to post "LOL" in response to a random post, and I never posted anything else, I assume that I would eventually be banned for non-substantive trolling. And it would be absurd to for someone to argue that I was
In which case the rule would simply be: "trolling is complicated and lots of people like to troll occasionally, but if you only ever troll you're getting banned" and no one would argue with that.
Luciom was banned for arguing for free speech though. What happened is just like with Victor where people started calling for him to be banned and then mods just did it. It probably doesn't actually have anything to do with his last post. It could been a recipe for spaghetti Bolognese. As Coordi said he was banned for being Luciom.

No. Try reading better.

You think I have the sort of time to read Luciom's posts?
Do you live near there?
I'll be staying in Estes. I'll be hiking Longs peak, Sky pond, maybe Chasm lake if time permits and then some easier trails like East Inlet, Bear lake area etc.
I'd like to go where the Colorado river begins.
I'll be honest, I never read any of his posts. I have ADD. It did seem like people enjoyed engaging with him though. That's what makes me wonder why he was banned. That's why I ask what harm he was causing.
So youβre saying he shouldnβt be banned for the final straw he was banned for without knowing the body of work he was accustomed for, making that your cause of the hour and thinkβ¦β¦what exactly?
I'm saying that the rules need to be clearer to avoid situations where mods are free to just wantonly ban people.

I live about 30 minutes from Estes.
Longs peak is a pretty insane hike. Just don't fall off at the key hole.
East Inlet is chill until you start climbing the mountain, but its on the west side of the park which I would recommend driving across trail ridge anyways. My next big planned hike is taking Ouzel falls up to Thunder lake and taking the boulder-grand pass to the east inlet.
I'd recommend Mills Lake over Sky Pond but you can actually do both pretty easily as they run along the same trail until a shortish fork
Bear lake is quintessential but will be packed af by 6am and you might have to shuttle. You also have to get a time entry with the bear lake option. This is easy to overlook
Kawuneeche valley (west side) is the best place to see moose (google Continental Divide Nat'l Scenic Trail-Bowen Gulch Connector Trl). Moraine Park (east side) is the best place for elk.
Grand Pizza and Sagebrush BBQ are good spots in Grand. There aren't great food options in Estes unfortunately, but The Barrel has good bourbon choices if thats your cup of tea
I've never been to la poudre but I think you have to drive way up along 14 from Fort Collins to get there unless you are going to hike down and back up trail ridge

funny you mention that because this is the only thing trolly and jj do
I've got some employees that I'd like to fire right now for whatever I can get them but HR is going to make me follow the rules and make sure that they actually do something terminable even if they have done terminable things in the past for which they weren't terminated.
I don't agree with this as a general principle. If someone is getting banned because he is an irredeemable and habitual line stepper, then focusing on the last few posts the person made before he was banned inevitably will make the moderation decision seem capricious.
But it is capricious.
Which is fine and dandy, since mods working for free can mod anyway they want.
But please don't pretend that the ban wasn't capricious.
Lucy not any worse (or better) than Victor imo.

I liked the Thai place in Estes Park when I stayed there.
