what a stupid question lol

It's a illusion of truth, i'm friends with / have met / mutual friends with the majority of best cash game regs and cant even think of a single one that qualifies as anything close to a robot. It's only in poker where people expect you to put on some show and goof around when you are playing at the highest level for millions of dollars. It's not like people talk about top athle

Poker/sports analogies are terrible and comparing poker players to athletes is a joke.

He makes some good points though. I'm normally a pretty loose player who will chat casually and show hands.

In the biggest spots I've ever been in I take it pretty seriously though. Those spots when the cameras are there are generally when I am not talking. Instead I'm trying to keep track of stack sizes, balance how long I take to act so I don't give away timing tells, and that kind of thing.

When there's a lot on the line you don't want to make a dumb joke or something and inadvertently give away the strength of your hand.

Yep. Why ask a question with such an obvious answer. Sitting in front of the computer for hours, weeks, months, years, obviously makes you act like one. These misregs are socially stunted after being terminally online for years.

If I'm too quiet at the table I'm probably stoned.

Funny timing, just yesterday was watching a podcast (Bill Simmons?) where they were talking about Scotty Sheffler he golfer. For those that don't know he is arguably the best golfer since prime Tiger Woods. The biggest problem with Sheffler is he is BORING! That was the main part of the topic on the podcast. He's a super nice guy, everybody likes him, best golfer by far the last few years, but he just doesn't have any "rizz"

That's why his name and face aren't all over the places like other top golfers in the past. Also part of the reason gold viewership is stagnant. Why your biggest star is boring it's no great for the sport.

Idk compare it to a esports player then, a chess player or whatever field you want. Regardless people in the top of their field are not clowning around all the time during high pressure situation.

It’s also not a coincidence that the majority of personality / characters from yesteryear that the average nerd hating 2p2er are no longer around. Your heroes are not and largely were not good at the game. They were elevated by unsustainable (and largely non-existent) money

they were good relative to the competition at the time, saying they aren't good compared to GTO doesn't mean anything, we didn't have the tools back then, if you were better than 99.99% of your competition you were effectively VERY GOOD back then even if now you'd say they made a lot of mistakes

Yea this. Only the most braindead people make skill comparisons across eras. You teleport all of the morons making this "the boom players were bad at poker" argument back to the boom with no knowledge of the game and they would get crushed by Jennifer Tilly and Jamie Gold.

GTO has been the best thing to happen to poker in awhile. Its the most over used tool and gives people excuses to why they over bet bluffed a river. It's hilarious how many times ive stacked someone because a solver told them to overplay/bluff on the river with air.

I encourage everyone to use solvers and I wish they were legal at the table.

It's funny because I'd rather have "robots" at the table instead of some loud jerk who simply can't shut up and slow down the game, ppl who the whole damn room can hear. I once had some fool tell me I'm too quiet and need to speak as it is "insulting" if I keep to myself, like wtf. I'm not there to entertain, I'm there to play, hopefully not lose too much money and maybe sometimes win some. Some ppl just want to dictate everyone.

You've got cause and effect backwards. People with "robotic" personalities are far more likely to have the patience to study solver outputs and the self-discipline to implement them consistently.

A lot of the silent players are also jerks though, so this is not a good argument in favor of robotic personalities.

A = Robot Misreg
B = Talkative Player

Both A and B can be jerks. Robot players also in my experience are much more likely to do **** like excessively tank because its "the +EV play" for instance. Which is much worse than some loud douchebag who you can mostly just ignore unless hes on Kassouf tier which I agree becomes very bad for the game again.

It's all a matter of interpretation, generally-speaking, the loudmouths are based on EV the assphats and the ppl who keep to themselves aren't.

Lol.
Level of ignorance in this thread is astounding, even for NVG. You all sound like a bunch of boomers, literally.

First people using "mild Asperger's", or saying things like "Asperger's is a mild form of autism"... Wtf is "mild autism"? Honestly the fact that you all are even using "Asperger's" automatically loses all credibility with me since no one with current or actual knowledge really uses this term anymore.

You all are using "autism" or "Asperger's" like people saying they're OCD when they're not. You all are basically saying quiet or talkative or nerdy or geeky people are autistic which is about as stereotypical as it gets. Some of the quietest people I've met were completely normal but thought they had to project a certain demeanor to win. Some of the loudest people I've met were actually autistic.

Finally just the topic itself is ****ing stupid. The lack of logic poker players can display is truly amazing given you need some grasp of logic to even win at this game. You all maybe don't think that the GTO approach just tends to attract certain types? This is like thinking politics turns people into know-nothing scumbags or something, rather than thinking that politics tends to attract useless know-nothing scumbags.

boomers are mad that poker is becoming more and more like chess.

You don't have to play like a robot in chess. All your moves are visible.

Gto bots are morons if they don't realize why it becoming more and more like chess is bad for business.

i am a Robot Professional Poker Player

Yes, because chess looks like so much fun to the average Joe that they just want to jump off their couches and run down to the local chess club to drink a few beers and gamble a little on chess (eye roll).

to be fair, following the tv show Queen’s Gambit a ton of people picked up chess, it is actually a really fun game for a ton of people, not just giga nerds

At say $500 and lower buy-in levels, tourneys will always be fun and contain 80% of people who are not robots and have never once looked at a 13x13 hand range grid. There's lots of life left in the game.

Focus on ways to bring more people in, especially younger players. Gen Z loves sports betting but this has not translated very well to poker so far, and of course tougher economic times has something to do with this as they can't pursue all gaming options at once.
