Why do GTO players act like robots?
Is there something about studying how a computer program plays and mimicking it that makes you act like a computer progr
Yea this. Only the most braindead people make skill comparisons across eras. You teleport all of the morons making this "the boom players were bad at poker" argument back to the boom with no knowledge of the game and they would get crushed by Jennifer Tilly and Jamie Gold.
So why aren't they winning in the current era?

It's a different skillset. Having good intuition, subconscious understanding of odds etc. was a lot more critical back in the day now it's more about who puts in the time studying and has the self control, determination etc to grind every day as well.
And some still did well like Ivey and Doyle, I'm sure there are others but those two came to mind immediately.
Ivey and Doyle are my two GOATs
A lot of the nerd behavior is also monkey see monkey do. They saw their nerd hero cover his mouth with his hoody during hands, so a lot started doing it. They saw their robot fingers nerd hero palm a whole 2 betting chips in a fully closed hand and then fully spread his hand flat on the felt to make his bet, so a lot started doing it. If their nerd hero starts jerking it while tanking, that will definitely be the end of live poker.
Focus on ways to bring more people in, especially younger players. Gen Z loves sports betting but this has not translated very well to poker so far, and of course tougher economic times has something to do with this as they can't pursue all gaming options at once.
the problem is games with real life gambling are already readily avalible to zoomers with things like counter strike casinos. They are way more popular and talked about between zoomers and will likely never stop. They are going to do all there gambling online not driving 40 minutes to go to a racetrack or casino.
The old 14 yr old level funny. It's time to grow out of that one, buddy. But if you're 14 or below, disregard.
That was the point. 14 year old humor for a 14 year old humor chart.
Maybe that went over your head. I'll dumb it down to 8 year old level next time and see if you can keep up.
GTO poker players donβt act like bots, you are just comparing it to an extreme.
Expecting someone to be a world class poker player and also a very entertaining person at the table is a Berksonβs Paradox and again shows why the public doesnβt understand statistics.
I think part of the reason why GTO players sometimes look like robots is because they train themselves to shut down emotional swings at the table. When you’re focused on balance, ranges, and EV, showing emotion can actually be a leak.
That said, there’s a big difference between acting robotic and actually having a strong mental game of poker. Building resilience, emotional control, and the ability to reset after a bad beat is what separates long-term winners from those who tilt away their bankroll.
Do you think you would crush the Vegas games if you were teleported back to 1999 with no knowledge other than your own intuition and reading Super/System?
They arent because memorizing solver outputs and studying with HRC and now GTOw is an entirely different skill than solving a game on the fly with little outside help.

This era has a larger demographic, what you had in the 90s was a few sharks taking advantage of old people.
GTO has been the best thing to happen to poker in awhile. Its the most over used tool and gives people excuses to why they over bet bluffed a river. It's hilarious how many times ive stacked someone because a solver told them to overplay/bluff on the river with air.
I encourage everyone to use solvers and I wish they were legal at the table.
The GTO solver hero caller is a crazy poker story arc ngl

Answer the question. Do you think GTO players of today would crush the elite of the time (including players like Matusow) if dumped into 2003 with no information other than having to learn the game on their own?
It didn't work for Andy Beal.
IIRC, he was winning vs. several of the pro players but he had tilt issues and tells. I believe he lost the most to Todd Brunson who noticed that Beal only looked at his watch on close decisions, giving Brunson the confidence to take aggressive lines whenever Beal was "randomizing".
In effect, he wasn't robotic enough. Still impressive for someone who was considered a whale not long before.
Are poker players robotic? I think plenty of poker players are willing to have conversations at the poker table like normal human beings. I guess on video it might not be that exciting, but I mean what do you want them to do? Jump up on the table and act like a clown? Imo, that **** is really annoying. I'd rather people just be authentic rather than try and be obnoxious or loud for video. I think it can be good to be a slightly exaggerated version of oneself, but anything beyond that just comes off as fake and repulsive.
If you compare the big and bold personalities of yesteryear to people who study and get good at the game today, the personalties comparatively have not as much to think about (they are much worse at the game, they are not able to and donβt need to process as much info)In live poker especially there is (mostly) too much information to process within a reasonable amount of time t
Grunch. But this is an absurd post
There are a lot of people with Asperger's who defaulted into poker as a career because you don't have to pass a phone screener, hiring manager interview, panel interview, and vibe check interview to start playing poker and make money.
People who chose poker as a career and understand it as a soft hustle, and play poker because it's a natural fit for their soft hustle skills, resent the Asperger's pro because they screw up the hustle and don't even realize that they're doing that.
A lot of the second type could easily fit into, or are/have been in, roles like corporate salesman, jewelry salesman, lawyer, personal banker, etc.
Imagine you were a seller at a big software company and someone from JP Morgan called in and an engineer took the call, stared at them blankly for 10 minutes and then was like "uhhh..... give me money." You'd resent the engineer, for the same reasons the soft hustler resents the Asperger's pro. The soft hustler recognizes poker as a vehicle where they can play the game for a decade with the same people and slowly win large amounts of money over time. The Asperger's pro sees every interaction as completely transactional, wants to get the most amount of money they can out of the hand they're currently playing, them prides themselves when the guy they stack never comes back to the casino.

I have Aspergers and have been playing poker for 22 years now. You don't have a clue about Aspergers. You regular folks are rude to us that are on the spectrum and victim blame us. and think we will just stand there and take it? You are another evil person who thinks they know about something when they don't live it. You and other poker players are evil and I see right through you. I hate you as well and all the people who have bullied and mistreated me over the years. I have a strong memory that is better than an Elephant. If you or anyone else tries to bully me I will harm you. I am sick and tired of people like you who think they can treat people like me terribly. I hate people like you who make assumptions that aren't true. Don't you ever talk this way about Aspergers ever again. Did I make myself clear coward?
