British Politics

Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.

Yes but it is the time that would take...

Not really. Armed response are pretty **** hot these days.

An illustrative example:

Police seek Tommy Robinson after alleged assault at London station

Far-right activist is thought to have left UK after claiming in video that injured man had attacked him at St Pancras

Police investigating an alleged assault of a man at a London train station are hunting for the far-right activist Tommy Robinson, who is understood to have taken a flight out of Britain shortly after video was put online showing him near the injured man.

The video shows Robinson claiming the man had attacked him, and was filmed at London St Pancras station where he had been leafleting earlier in the day. Robinson is 42 and originally from Luton.

Just on the British PM saying that he expects to make a similar statement on recognising the Palestinian state in September following the French President's announcement - I think people need to be a bit careful with how much weight to give that given how much the UK is in France's pocket re nuclear power. Trump has already been putting pressure on Starmer to forget wind energy because it damages the aesthetics of the area and focus on oil exploration in Scotland but then there were all those statements from Starmer about the UK's support for its energy future to be from civilian nuclear production - and which country is intrinsically linked to nuclear power production for the UK and the rest of Europe - France.

...and that's why we needed a national enquiry.

the BBC understands that one alleged victim, Willow - in a report to police - has named PC Hassan Ali as having raped her.

"The first time, he literally said: 'You do it for the other officer. So you're gonna do it for me,'" she tells us.

PC Ali died in January 2015, a week after he was hit by a car. On the day the collision took place, he had been put on restricted duties because of an investigation into alleged misconduct in the abuse scandal. He was never arrested.

Willow also says that both officers who abused her, including PC Ali, were also involved in supplying drugs.

Not sure anyone will disagree about a national enquiry into abuse & criminal behavoir by the police

Why such an enquiry would possible be restricted to child abuse scandals is beyond me.

I don’t agree. A lot of people even now still subscribe to the few rotten apples theory.

You actually want enquiries to be as narrow and focused as possible, or else they'll take decades and have substantial mission creep.

He come at me bruv dinnee s'all bollocks innit? How many times has this toerag been in prison so far? Hope he gets done on this as well.

In the words of Doja Cat, 'You've got to keep your focus.'

Okaay lets make the enquiry until the real substance which how abuse can be so widespread and go for so long becaue the police and instiutions fail the victims so badly (and worse)

It's the common factor in all cases. There's always an excuse but the excuse is not the problem. The problem is why they so easily find an excuse. It's the attitude to the victims that needs to be front and center of an enquiry.

Who the **** wore a hat like this in the mid 60s?

He's done that thing of skipping the country again. He does that a lot. I don't know why he bothers, because they usually get him back in the end.

He goes back to get instructions from his handlers/financiers.

Stashing negotiable assets abroad may come into it as well.

He's gone to sunny Tenerife according to the Guardian. His victim is 64. He really is a thug.

And what seems to be a veiled dig at migrancy from the Tories, capitalising on the issue.

The Conservatives’ home affairs spokesperson, Chris Philp, a policing minister in the last government, told the Guardian that the case raised questions about border security.

Philp said: “The fact that a wanted fugitive was able to pass through our international border should not be allowed to happen and it is further evidence of this government’s complete lack of border control, inbound or outbound.”

So the perpetually foot-in-mouth Badenoch has come out and said she came to the UK for economic reasons, making her one of her loathed "economic migrants".

Well that's a stupid poll, it should be 'Join EU' or 'Do not join EU'

source?

They probably have to phrase it in the original way for gammons to understand fhe options.

Sunday Times

Alternatively they could be phrasing it that way to pander to cannot-let-it-go remainers?

Link?

Rejoining would be a whole nother proposition, but it's a significant indicator as to how well people think it's gone so far.
