Mix game journey
Having had three years of experience in mix games ranging from getting raked to death at $4/8 to shot taking three times
we won 8k last night in 3/600
now we at wynn waiting to start 40/80 in 40min
meanwhile, tryna to find some water!!!!!!!!!!!!
We didn't play very well in 40/80 yesterday but ran above ev n booked a win.
It's 5am n i been up for like 2 hrs. 4pm is when 3/600 starts. Let's play our A game.
Lots personal stuff, it's mentally tough; but remember, once i sit down at the table, i have to focus n find ways to win.
ill update results later
just thought of something cuz a misdeal yest at 40
wsop cash game for 20/40 mix is so bad
floors are mostly good ppl but they just dont know the rulings n they get pushed around by some bad regs who try to run over the game....ive gotten ****ed out of about 10-20bets
the enviroment control is tricky at wsop w so many bad characters around...floors do try but its the lack of competence from the above it seems... its like if u go play at orleans for a week, i swear, the most mild tenpered person would get riled up, esp the tour directors' decisions. That should give u another reason to not go broke
didnt mean to play poker today
checked in at harrahs
came to bellagio n said hi to couple guys in the 80mix
jumped in the game w a bunch regs
kenny deng peter rho nice ppl to be around
jeff lisandro a good buddy talking about confucius nonstop n ancient histories stuff
finally got to play w nick milgrom, very solid
stay focused n play well!
(update: lost 11k the other day in one full rotation in 3/600, then lost more in bacc...bad...)
Ok, so a recap of what happened on the 13th.
I got to resorts world about an hour before the game started. Minh Ly and I watched some people play bacc then at 4pm we went to the poker room to play chinese. We were initially playing 3 handed w Eli, $100 a point, then Angry came in, we started four handed chinese. They were playing 200 a point n i said i'll stick w 100, Eli said to me - jimmy you are chinese n u want to play small... i guess it worked i agreed to 200 w everyone. I remember the very first hand angry had four jacks in the back, i had four queens and eli had a straight flush... in the end, i won small n john lost small. minh got killed n eli won big.
We played for an hour n poker started at 5. We drew for seats and started w nl2. i instantly got stuck 8 dimes then got scooped by maxx coleman in a stud8 pot - he had a pair n a 7 low draw w an ace showing on sixth while i had a gut shot and an 8 low draw. he continued to fire the river and i made a pair of 4s and paid him off.
At the lowest point i was stuck about 12k. Then came a razz hand where i had (7K)A, with a five and a picture bringin behind me. I complete as a steal, 5 folds, queen defends. I catch a 7, he catches a T, bet call. I catch an 8, he catches a 9, bet call. I catch a 6, he catches an 8, so (7K)A786 v (xx)QT98, i bet he reluctantly folds and asked me to show him my bananas and I did... that was a nice run out for me.
Then came a plo hand where straddle was on, so we were playing 1/2/400 w 300 dead ante. i pot to 1500 utg w kqq3 diamonds and hearts, straddle defends. flop came a87r, XX, turn J no bdfd, XX, river K. he checks n i bet 2500 into about 4k as a bluff n got thru. so ive shown two bluffs at this point...
Then a lil while later I tried to bluff eric on the river w 22567 n got caught by his Ten in lowball; and i played a deuce hand super bad vs angry where i pinpointed him on 87432 but didn't break my 87642 on flop n turn. i raise-called flop n pat n called turn n pat n folded river. i paid a bet n a half to not double draw. so stupid.
Then came a big stud hand which brought me to almost even (stuck about 2k) where I started w wired Tens and caught trips on fifth n went to 3 bets and scooped vs an unknown hand.
But slow bleeding in a few spots after that put me a -11.3k loser after a full 17 game rotation, which is the expectation.
After that I went to chill at bacc and lost an amount I would rather lose in poker... It in fact put me as a loser in the pit for now, which is hella annoying.
i played some 40 n 80 in the following days, won about 5 then lost 2.5 in 10/20 nl and 1.5 in chinese n taiwanese. There are a few freeroll pit tournaments coming up at resorts world - hope i can bink one. It would've been nicer to play these events after having won in the pit (pre august 13th) as opposed to entering knowing I lost in the table games... sigh...
Now in the past couple days I met with school, gon pay my tuition n finish my degree, adhering to the deadlines; had some lingering issues w the debt situation (being owed, forced to sell the debt, etc.) back home in sacramento, idk if i am being unethical, but did get yelled by a reg... i try to help someone out, how on earth do i become the bad guy... jesus...
i still am living in vegas... will see what happens.
This is such a ******ed mental spot
Having your entire roll = 100k vs your roll = 80 + 20 out on loan vs your roll = 120 w 20 being $ u r owed are entire different mindset
I would rather have roll = 20 then run it up as opposed to money being owed... really sucks, even for good buddies. But I mean, there simply aren't that many winners.
if i had 20million i should keep 100% my roll too who knows if n when a big game like 100-200k limit might pop up n i want to sit n compete
its gambling. its calming to be an honest n successful gambler
dont think i played well at badeucey n badacey in the southpoint 20 game
booked -700
there are so many close spots n i either over or under played them
its obv very starting hand dependent - maybe im just too loose pre
i had written some badeucey stuff in the past couple days coincidentally, inspired by two hands i saw angry john played n i give him the benefit of the doubt that since badeucey is one of his better games, what he did in badeucey that i didnt understand was cuz he was at too high of a level. i need to get in the right mental space n work out the math associated w it esp on the second draw - i believe the decisions on the turn draw is the most ev swaying part in split pot games n more so in triple draw cuz understanding the scooping potential of what u r drawing to vs opps range Vs chance of getting scooped or forced to fold before putting in the turn big bet is paramount
really like mike's interview on the table 1 pod.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdH6AJWh...
wanted to play the table 1 game after the series; texted for a seat but didn't get a response, wasn't sure if there was a game tbh n didn't ask more cuz wasn't too keen to play nl anyway; but coincidentally got to play the "table 2" game justin runs at resorts world. it's a smaller version of table 1. 10/20 nl instead of 50/100 nl.
crazy mike's game is good. the dictator nature is true though. i remember one time when we were playing 1/200 - the dealer saves the stub for us to flip for time n tip in triple draw games n on this occasion the dealer forgot to save the stub so mike grabbed a random card from faced down cards n two cards sticked together n A n 4 were turned over. he was in seat 1 n i was in seat 4 so i had to be the one that pays, naturally - a little extra tax for losing in the game...

What were the hands??
the second hand is me vs him n two limpers where he 4 bet me IP pre w 234r n i didn't stick w my 97dugi n 9 low draw n instead drew to 743r n got squeezed out after first draw.
the first hand is him v a good reg BU v sb, unsure about pre draw n first draw but on second draw he caught jto w his 234r. and he call turn pat call river w j-j facing a river pat oop from the reg. obv just calling for half he could've pitched the ten n try to improve his dugi since the half hoped for was the dugi half - but what it really got me to think is the ev on calling down vs folding after catching two turn bricks.
the math is easy but unless you've done it yourself you can be quite unsure on where the threshold is... so let's break it down via pot odds draw by draw.
the scenario to be mapped out is us holding 234r in a 3! pot but we ignore who the 3 bettor is n what our position is (it obv sucks if opp just gets dealt a 6 or 7 dugi n is hardcore freerolling us barring us catching the 2 or 3 outer but normally you should be playing good 3 cards):
so going into the first draw there are, ignoring the blinds, 3 big bets in the pot; if we brick the first draw, we need to call 1 small bet to win 3.5 big bets - 7 to 1 aka 12.5% for scoop n 3.5 to 1 aka 22.2% for half ------ we have 3 gin cards - offsuit 5 6 n 7 hence 3/45+42/45*3/44=13% for the dugi half; for the low half we can use the 5.5-4-2 rule w one card draws then applying the probs w catching the other card to find out the odds, the back of the envelope number is that 2 card draw is about 40% to improve to 8 or better. Anyway we are not folding the flop, period.
The turn decision is where it matters the most because at this point there are 4 bets in the middle n to scoop on this street we need 5 to 1 aka 16.7%; to chop we need 33.3%; if we have a one card 7 draw we are forced to continue because the odds for low is 16% for 7 low n additional 8% for 87 low. Then a few of these cards also help us make a dugi to scoop. If we still only have 234r we cannot continue because our chance for a 8 low suckout is about 4% (two card draw one time) and we are not getting the right odds to continue for the dugi half either.
Now this assumes that you are playing against competent opponents who is not going to war w anything worse than a 234r; because you simply should not have the mindset that you are going to run over your opponents w ur 246r 3! pre n fire fire fire. This is THE spot in badeucey where I may be overfolding but this loops around to the hand john played where on turn he has unconvertible j-j is it worth it to call 2 bets (turn n river) to win 2 bets (cuz his low is no good once oop pats in front of him)...idts, but maybe it's an exploitative call down but if you always do this it won't turn out well.
Sorry this is the most I can write now, didn't answer on the original q on the calling down ev but the point should be clear; I have more in text msgs but they aren't in digestive formats. My mind isn't quite on poker at this moment... but life is long... keep going.
in this 600 wynn o8 tour
torturous.
just gotta run well when limit is high...
Just had a hand in badacey where i got accidentally angled
i open button 234r n bb defends n he leads 8chips n i put out 4, i meant to bet anyway w 8432 dugi but now wasnt sure if he meant to xr or actually lead n i didnt ask at the time just made sure it was 4.... later he said he meant to check call my flop bet w his 9dugi
i antagonized a while n broke my 8 n he made sure i drew two after he drew 1 n bet the turn n i folded
how it supposed to play out is me checking back turn if i dont make 8-8 n go to cheap showdown
obv he check call instead of donking i wouldve kept 8
feeling annoyed
earlier today had some arguments w the two regs involved in the sellin the debt situation back in sac n got called being scummy..,,
there are so many bad characters in gambling... and as i type i lost another split triple draw pot to the same old guy... this time badeucey... i stepped outta line n opened 347 in early position n called for half w 87 dugi...
-4bets :(
just quit the 20 game
won tiny
got stuck after getting scooped in badeucey n punted a couple bets in deuce then got unstuck from a 3way drama2 hand then come the following two hands
Drawmaha High
i open utg/LJ w AdKdQdQcQs
good buddy sb 3! AAAsXsX
i call n flop TcTs5s he drew 1 i put him on big two pair since i basically have the nut trips i drew 2 n i catch 72o no spade
called down n lose, standard -3.5 bet
Drawmaha Deuce
good buddy open lj i 3bet 97c6c4d2d
button same old guy 4! 97632
3way
flop QQ9c
XXBCC
1-pat-pat
QQ9c3c
XXBRCRRCC
yes i cold called 2bet then 4bet
the old guy adam J tried to squeeze me out w 97632?! It's a polarized raise w a medium strength hand; and its not even a merge raise. I'm baffled and absolutely tilted at showdown when i got pipped!
So my thought process: i put lowjack and button both on strong low and thought lowjack's best line there is to donk w 33xxx (he had 8xx33) or 3Qxxx (if he had boat) to have button raise n put in a flat for chop - hence when he xr i was trying to win the board half w my pair of 9s because it's more likely button has an 8 or better low than 98 which would beat me for omaha high, altho i do have club draw for backup.
It's annoying to be squeezed in the middle and lose 7.5 bets in one hand
my 7+ bet losses mostly come from drawmaha n superstud8
pretty tilting
these polarized bets w medium strength hand reminds me of a hand benny glaser faced at nl2 final table vs i wanna say bonyadi where bonyadi bet a jack after drawing two w a polarized sizing
its hard to say if the person was actually merge betting or assessing the ranges incorrectly - like if either side of ur polarized range includes certain parts of the range thats not supposed to be polarized, your polarized bets will be viewed as a bad value bet.
btw funny thing about that drama2 hand
i thought about leading turn n have button raise cuz im likely chopping w him but decided to take passive route n check call instead it became check coldcall coldcall....
the irony.
enjoy poker n **** the bad characters
went through way too much in the past couple yrs
online scam (mid-early 2021), pokemon showdown shenanigan (mid-late 2021)
sexual harrassment charge (late 2022)
failing oral exam (mid 2021)
alcoholic accusation (late 2022)
getting "fired" from job (late 2022), sleeping in office and other campus public space too (late 2022)
getting called into OSSJA; &
the various money owing n getting stiffed by some gamblers not even poker players (mid 2024-now)
talking poker, playing mix is a relaxing n soothing experience; can never be tilted out of my mind. my max tilt is probably a 3 out of 10.
some ppl make it some ppl dont
theres a part thats destiny theres a part thats smart decision-making; i just hope im the 1% aka one of the 70million ... that make it
