we're seeing massive suburb flight - people want to be city adjacent so they have access to things rural areas don't have the population to support but almost none want to be in the city itself
sweet spot seems to be about 30-45 min drive away

as you can see, seattle proper is far cheaper to live in than the surrounding suburbs because very few people who can afford to leave decide to stick around
it's probably more pronounced here than elsewhere given how this city began as a working class region and thus doesn't really have those prestigious neighborhoods with brownstones etc but fact remains that the most desirable towns in king county are some of the least populous
don't know anyone with a commute of less than half an hour and it's not uncommon for people to drive an hour each way to get to work because they really, really don't want to raise a family near their office
you maybe don't remember but Florida mandated reopening in September 2020 before any COVID vaccine was available. with "mandated" I mean that the state mandated all localities and nulled and voided any locality from locking down anything (they still allowed reduced capacity measures for restaurants).maybe some say you will realize some people aren't pussies and do put freedom a
Well it is not about Covid vaccine u get that right ?
Now if u believe not taking it for measles, polio and other virus like this just because you think it’s about being a pussy or not , well I guess and hope u didn’t give it to your children yourself ….
I trust in science and natural selection to do its works .

White flight has been a thing since the 50s
this so much, it pisses me off to no end how awful our public transport infrastructure is and how every time i'm like "we should improve it" everyone is like "ride the bus? gross!" not understanding that if it were improved to be on par with a car - it wouldn't be a homeless refuge and gross but a very cheap and convenient way to travel that would be the norm
If it were nicer and cheap, wouldn't that make the homeless even more likely to board?
a good friend of mine bought a fishing lodge in the ozarksas they bought it - the prior owner warned them "anything you can possibly imagine is literally too stupid or ridiculous to occur is going to happen - just accept that now and roll with it when it happens"sure enough, within months they'd found that man was right and it the best possible thing he could have told them for
Fresh off the maintenance list today!
Backstory: A couple of Milwaukee's purple-haired finest move into this unit July 1st and submit a maintenance request on day 2 that their air conditioning doesn't work. We politely point out that those giant cast-iron radiators they see in their unit have no mechanism by which to create and circulate cold water. If they want cold air they'll need to buy window units, and we'd be happy to help install them if they wish. They did NOT like this answer and call us names, but it is what it is. Fast forward a month, and they submit a maintenance request that they found black mold in their apartment. The evidence submitted to support this claim is a photo of the hardwood floor by their stacked washer/dryer with some black spots on it. These black spots are directly below the detergent tray, so any sane person would assume they're simply dripping detergent on the floor, not wiping it up, and it collects dust/dirt and hardens a darker color. They also claim they found black mold inside their washing machine.
Well, the customer is always right and it's never a good idea to get spicy with tenants, so we send someone out to look, and sure enough he wipes up the biggest dots. He reports that the discoloration on the washing machine door gasket isn't fully coming off, but he got 95% of it. He spent a solid 2 hours scrubbing every square inch of their laundry closet and surrounding areas, WAY beyond what is reasonable given the circumstance. He treats it with bleach and follows up with concrobium to eliminate any possibility of claiming we didn't treat their concerns seriously, and close the ticket. We let them know that mildew is a common issue with front-load washing machines, as can be confirmed by countless millions of people complaining about it online, and the best way to avoid it is to simply leave the door open when the unit is not in use so it dries thoroughly. This is unacceptable to them and they demand that we replace the entire door because there's still mold on it. Again, because time is money and we know where this leads, we figure if we can get a door to shut these women up, we'll do it. Unfortunately the new door is half the cost of a brand new unit, so not a great option. I frequently authorize just buying new appliances since the price of fixing them is so high, but if I replace the washer, I have to replace the dryer, and now we're talking about lighting $1500 on fire for no reason whatsoever, so we tell them no.
Needless to say, this does not satisfy them. Next day, maintenance request comes in that says the black mold from the washing machine has spread to their bedroom and living room. Again, the evidence of this is their dirty floor. This time they claim they tried to wipe it up but it's "not surface mold. It's embedded."
Okay, great, you mean the floors we just had sanded down and refinished last year? If there IS mold under that new clearcoat, which there isn't, then you're in luck because it's trapped under there and is definitely dead by now. But if it makes you feel better, we'll authorize fogging your entire apartment with concrobium. You should cover your personal belongings and stay out of the unit for 24 hours. She says they'll get back to us.
They're still just mad about the washing machine, but ultimately decline the fogging treatment.
However many weeks of silence and then today this comes in:
"Washer machine door wonβt close. We noticed upon moving in the door was loose and needed to be lifted to be closed. Over time the problem got worse."
I just saw the photos hit the server from the maintenance team, and these girls straight up snapped the door off the machine entirely. The only way this would've been possible is for someone to put all their weight on it while it was open and bounce on it. I'm not buying my appliances off Temu. Whirlpool engineers are good at what they do, so this isn't going to happen by accident.
Good news, girls! You're getting a new washer/dryer.
Bad news, you're paying for it.

Not only did my guy take detailed photos after the initial cleaning which shows no damage, he's been doing this for decades and would've known to note any play in the mechanism for purposes of determining whether to replace it if another call came in for it. In 15 years I've never seen a washing machine door fail like this.
I wouldn't want my tax dollars going toward housing these people and putting up with their bullshit. Landlords who need to make ends meet are an excellent first line of defense in combating this insanity. Government housing can be boring grey concrete boxes and you get a free bus pass to hit the local laundromat.
Another 1-star review coming in hot.
That particular duplex lost $3,775.81 last year, by the way, despite full occupancy. That figure doesn't include principal payments toward the mortgage, so subtract another $9,368.03. I don't have high hopes for it this year, either.
Jesus Christ, every time Ins0 describes his job he comes across as an even bigger scumbag than I previously imagined.
Inso it looks like the solution would be not to guarantee any service? just rent the unit without any guarantee any appliance would work and it's up to them to put their own stuff inside? isn't that the norm?
In italy we have fully furbished / service-guaranteed housing for rent available but it's kind of a luxury treatment, way above normal market rate and only available with serious guarantees from the renter and in expensive areas. In normal places you rent and you even buy the furniture... or you accept "as is" whatever is in and it's not on the landlord side to fix it.
That is, outside basics like water/electricity/trash disposal and so on being available, that's mandatory ofc.

Right? The sheer audacity of this scumbag to not roll over to the unnecessary demands of some uppity TikTokers.

Most people are capable of not throwing a hissy fit and destroying their washing machine, so on-site laundry is a selling point. We provide every unit with functional appliances, including a washer/dryer. But if you break it, you buy it. Ripping your door off is not normal wear and tear.
Edit: Worth noting that this is only the second instance in the 15 years I've been here where someone will be charged for replacing a major appliance. Even if you neglect a rental-grade appliance, the most easily-broken parts are designed to be somewhat easily replaced. Tenants overload their washing machines and dryers all the time and break belts, but that's an easyish fix.
So Ins0 had to call someone to fix something for him, and maybe one of his tenants has purple hair. What a rough job.
yeah i lived on the ocean
fishing boats are nothing like that - that boat is built for speed - hard to tell from grainy image but it's at least a dual outboard system
not a single fisherman in the history of the world could ever operate at that level of gas consumption and expect to make a profit
never mind the fact that it's clearly not a work boat either and neither capable of handling nets nor even storing a catch if it were used for restricted waters where hook and line is the only legal method
also not a boat built to be seaworthy either - that boat has one design goal and it is speed
not necessarily means they are drug smugglers - could be some dudes who like to enjoy their time on the water
but of all the bad vic takes, the notion that's a fishing boat is by far the most absurd

Imagine Inso telling this story to people outside of here and them bonding over a shared rage that starts right at the mention of purple hair

not necessarily means they are drug smugglers - could be some dudes who like to enjoy their time on the water

The distinction between "a fishing boat" and "a boat with some dudes just enjoying the water" seems less absurd than you're making it out to be.
They could have at least took turns pulling a dude on a knee board and blasted some Alan Jackson with that setup.

I assume that pain in the ass tenants aren't new and aren't exclusive to libs
But objectively, maybe its time to look for a new job if this is the level of ingrained resentment you have towards your tenants as a slum lord
I don't really care that we drone striked a likely drug mule boat
Its interesting that the administration is just kind of releasing war crime snuff films. I feel like a year ago we were being told that Donnie tha Dove was going to solve all the wars and recluse ourselves from global affairs and that Obama was the drone striker in chief and etc etc
Its really just indicative of the further erosion of the narrative we were told and the principals that Republicans pretended they had

that was the narrative for the low IQ idiots.
in Trump I trump assassinated a high level Iranian general and bombed Syria. only very low info very low IQ people could think he was a pacifist or something like that.
and to be clear the willingness to use lethal force against enemies of America is an immense plus for Trump, if low IQ/info sheeple need to be convinced otherwise, that's just politics.
the principles that changed are that "exporting democracy", a failed bullshit attempt, is not a plan anymore. but "assassinating American enemies" is still the basic strategy in true bipartisan fashion as it should be
