The Democratic Party's Slide Into Irrelevance
Attaching a poll ... Dems unfavorability rating increased from 45% to 57% during the Biden Administration.
How is this a taxation issue? And anyway, there is representation. Obviously this can't happen unless state (or national) government elected officials pass measures approving it. It just shouldn't be up to certain residents to be able to veto anything that happens in their neighborhood. In other words, one property owner shouldn't be able to control what his neighbor property
you pay property taxes in a place, and you don't get a say on how space is regulated there? lol
Yes land shoul dbe free to be used by the owner. But if it isn't, then it's very obvious to me that it should be locally decided.
So the best model is "it is unconstitutional to limit construction" , followed by : only local entities can regulate construction (and land use). Allowing the state (or the fed) to regulate is worse than allowing the local council to regulate.
republicans objectively are less bad at allowing construction than democrats. All the dems here want to insist on the fact that nymbism is identical on the right: it objectively isn't
Who insisted on that? No one said anything about it this week. It's definitely easier to get approval for new buildings in Republican areas.

Sure, you should get a say, but no more say than anyone else in the jurisdiction.
And the way you get the say is with your vote, that's your representation. Private citizens should not be able to hold up new construction for any reason.

In our states***
So your map canβt really tell you if Republican city councils/councilmembers are being bipartisan with the Democrats in our states.
But I agree that itβs only recently that there has been a concerted effort within the party to try to curtail this problem, and itβs a big one
Bernie spouting proof that the Democrats are a right wing entity.
The establishment Dems refuse to endorse Mamdani who won the NYC Democratic Party primary. Big tent my azz. It's all about big $$$.
Bernie is so ridiculous. He says things about how the Democratic Party needs to be changed, but he's not even a member.

I don't understand the objection. Mamdani run in a primary against an "establishment democrat". He won. Why should "establishment democrats" endorse him? it's not a national election where after the primaries you run against republicans.

I'm simply pointing out that the Democrats are providing evidence that they are a right wing entity and not the welcoming "big tent" that they claim to.
Establishment Democrats shun people like myself who don't feel that they are represented by either major party. There are a boatload of non-voters in the US as a result.
I lived in a nation which is dictated by those who have lots more money than the average person. The average person feels neglected and bitter as a result. Trump is the avatar for their bitterness. He didn't create them .... they created the demand for someone like him to burn everything down.
There's an ancient African proverb which speaks to this .....
"If you don't involve a child in the benefits of the village, then he'll bask in the warmth of the village when he burns it down"
Trump is like the Joker character played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. He's happy to burn everything down.
Trump occupies a specialty niche in the gene pool. When the population is going to have to thin involuntarily ...... the herd chooses someone who has what it takes to preside over such an eventuality. A person willing to do the separation into who lives and who dies.
That's the primitive reason why so many voted for him. They are feeling the fear of an uncertain future and trying to find their way into the segment of the population that survives. Racism becomes more pronounced in times like these because it has been an arbitrary ingredient in historical sorting into survival subgroups.
The way Trump has gone after DEI initiatives in a way that signals the willingness to sort by tribe.
The concentration of wealth in fewer and fewer hands becomes malignant beyond certain thresholds. Democrats don't offer a solution to that.
We have two choices .... progressive redistribution such as espoused by candidates like Bernie and Mamdani or violent revolution.
The social fabric in the US is thread bare.

I do not get this primary thing for a mayoralty candidate . Does any other city do this Just have all the candidates run .
It's only when a progressive member of the Democrats shows any potential that the right wing Democrats show their true colors.
They are way more united in their opposition toward progressives than they are in their opposition to the GOP.

it's not different from when leftist democrats go against elected democrat senators because they aren't leftist enough.
You fail to realize that endorsing mamdani in NYC doesn't help the democratic party (which will control the city regardless of endorsements), while it hurts democrats *where it matters the most*.
Republicans can't wait to run ads with top leadership democrat endorsing an extremist like mamdami in every purple state senatorial race, every purple state governor race, and so on.
And those are almost the only races that matter at the end, the vast majority of races are already won by a party before votes are tallied.
So everything you do as a party should be done with purple areas in mind *and nothing else* if you want to win. After you win you play the internal games, not before.
Yes it is.
Bernie and AOC and other progressives in the Dem family always support their centrist Democrats when they run against the GOP.
mamdami isn't running against the GOP in reality, do you realize that? the republican candidate has a 0% chance of winning.
He is still running against Cuomo

The bolded probably describes every country that has ever existed in all of history.

I don't think those are the only two choices.
I thought the original title of the Charlie Kirk thread was fun and innovative and would like to lodge a protest at the completely bland and sterile renaming of that thread.

Listened to a podcast on a flight of Shawn Ryan as he had Gavin Newsom on for 4 hours
Damn Newsom if he wants it will be the 2028 candidate for the Dems Long time ago I was a fan but he lost me but wow he is good .
Never realized he was dyslexic and doesnβt write speeches .
Unbelievable. ****ing pussy Chuck Schumer and every other Democratic Senator roll over and play dead while Hitler rises to power. There is no hope for 2026 folks, unless every Democratic Senator is booted and replaced with people who don't want to kiss the asses of two ignorant spewers of hate (one dead, one still hanging on)

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., criticized his New York colleagues over their lack of support for Mamdani earlier this month.
"Many Democratic members of the Senate and the House representing New York have stayed on the sidelines," Van Hollen said during an event in Iowa. "That kind of spineless politics is what people are sick of. They need to get behind him and get behind him now."
Good ..... some Democrats are speaking up. Small signs of life.
