The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet
Hold on, how did trans issues come into this book ban? You think they should be banning books about trans people?
I dunno a "good political leader" should maybe not try for idiodic book bans they have to furiously backpedal on for being obviously idiodic first? Just lol at trying to reframe the backpedal as some type of illustration of great leadership.
Guess it isn't surprising that the Big Government guy who wants to ban alcohol also wants to ban books.
Man conservatives are weird af, what ever happened to leaving the government out of people's individual choices?
Lets be honest this is all about teaching Trans and books with graphic sex to minors
Also government shouldn't be teaching my children or any child an ideology . Just as I do not want the 10 commandments posted in a public school
I don’t think we have to do twenty questions. If you DENY any negative effects on your grandchildren from climate change you are by definition a climate change DENIER so I don’t know why you are so angsty over this obviously appropriate label.
Do you acknowledge that the deficits Justin Trudeau ran up will have a negative long term effect on your kids and their kids?

The book bans, silly though it were, didn't target "teaching trans". This is something you've added.
But let's test your view. Should we ban all books that include a gay character? You say the government shouldn't be teaching "any ideology". If you allow gay characters in books, do you think we should ban books with trans characters?
We tried that and weirdos put books with sexual penetration in elementary school libraries.
Is that weird? I have a book that does it. It's great. It's a book that teaches everything to do with bodies and sex and babies etc to children. It includes diagrams of male and female reproductive systems, and talks explicitly about what sexual intercourse is, what sperm is, how the sperm gets to the egg, etc. Theres actually three versions of the book for three different age groups. This all seems like totally benign, totally healthy things that only weirdos would try to ban.

My views are to different levels
Kindergarten to 6 no on books that are about sexual orientation .
Grade 7 on I am fine with books with gay and trans characters
Lets not compare gay and trans one is a sexual orientation the LGB is a sexual preference the other letters are an ideology .
Lol, I rather doubt that. I get it, you like scrolling twitter for the absolute most extremes possible. But basic sex ed books for children that explain anatomy including what sexual intercourse is and how babies are made is benign, common, innocent and I'd suspect unobjectable by the majority of parents.

Yikes. You want Big Government to ban even the mention of gay characters until someone is in grade 7??!?!?!?!?! Man, we are further into 1984 territory than I thought!
Can you imagine a kid who is banned from evening knowing gay people exist until grade 7? And then that person is sitting right beside say the kid of two gay parents, or a kid already starting puberty and already suspecting they might be gay? But OH NOES a book exists where it has a gay character and lozen needs it BANNED.
So sad.

I’m on the fence with the gay issue the problem is you want grade 3 students to have access to the book on gay sex that shifty posted
I noticed you refused to answer my question on national debt effecting your kids and theirs
Seems to be a pattern we answer your questions but you refuse to answer ours

You’re on the fence about letting kids know gay people exist and banning books with gay characters because……the most infamous extreme example sourced in the US of something shocking yall can find? That is not remotely representative of anything like what the average normal person means when talking about gay or trans people. In a country of 300+ million I’m sure you can find a bad librarian somewhere, but that book is absolutely not remotely close to a standard book a librarian reads to a grade 3 student. This is why we have librarians! You don’t need to ban all books!

You do so many irrelevant off topic whataboutisms that you never seriously engage back with one basically has to ignore some otherwise the conversation explodes off topic every other post. But sure, all covid era debt in all countries by all ruling parties will affect future grandchildren to some degree, but its less than you think given how debt inflates away over time and our grandchildren’s debt crisis will - as it is for us - be much more determined by their recent debt levels than ours.
Now Trudeau’s expansion of CPP which is well projected will definitely be a big plus.
That’s their backpedal. They tried to start with a much broader book banning, it blew up in their faces, they had to rescind and this is their new face saving. This is what happens when politicians try to play culture warrior games - leave schools the **** alone imo, they don’t need your meddling.
no i highly doubt it. thats the conspiracy part. the alberta conservative party can do whatever they want they will have a majority for the next decade. If they wanted it done they would have had it done. "they backtracked" because the Edmonton schoolboard wanted to go further then them. If alberta keeps the bookban as Edmonton wanted do you really think they would lose any seats? this is a shifty tier take reading the left/right wing twitter without context

Yeah I get reading Bobby has two dads or two mommies if you have a student that has type or parent scenario and the kids ask. My sister a retired teacher says that if a student had that question she was required to tell the parents the student asked and let them handle the question . Oh I have seen some of the books and sadly teachers try
Yeah whataboutism as you use one to say other countries did it . Name me one country that accumulated more debt with one leader than all the leaders before him combined ? You cant

What? Obviously it was a backpedal. The book ban language before was ridiculously stupid and broad, and now it's been replaced with far narrower (still pointless - let librarians deal with this) but more reasonable langauge. And it was in the face of obvious political pressure to do so. Just because conservatives have a super majority in alberta doesn't mean they are immune to any form of political pressures and not capable of retreating when something blows up in their face. But this is just a great lesson in which conservative's shouldn't be getting into the book banning business to drive their culture warrior bs in the first place.
Yeah I get reading Bobby has two dads or two mommies if you have a student that has type or parent scenario and the kids ask.
Ok, so you DON"T want to ban books up to grade 7 that contain gay characters now? But it is only allowed in like very marginal situations?
Notice that no part of you feels any desire to ban books or limit discussions of heterosexual couples. It is just gay couples that if to be IF this and IF that and otherwise BANNED.
Lol no. Librarians do not get to decide what books belong in the library. It's absolutely insane, a normal person would not argue that these books should be in an elementary school library. Seriously, what's wrong with you.

Lol, nobody IS arguing that you silly billy. The most extreme examples are not remotely close to what most "normal" people are talking about. The US is a huge place. You can always find the absolute most extreme example - often out of context - somewhere and have them endlessly elevated on twitter. The type of thing 99.99% of school libraries would NOT choose to read to their 3rd year students. The problem is that 0.01% gets used to justify conservative culture war book bans on just totally normal, totally benign, LGBT friendly content that SHOULD be in schools libraries.
At the core the question is whether these kinds of curation questions are best solved by conservative politicians making sweeping book bans, or by the normal curation process that happens in school libraries everywhere. I suggest the later.

I do believe the government is elected school librarians are not .
So you support BC teaching kindergarten students about gender and they don’t have to a boy or girl ?
Sadly your side is more extreme that the right side in Alberta . Alberta government adjusts BC government will not
I get why my neighbors will not put their kids in the public schools system
So what? In most cases, conservatives at least pretend that Big Government isn't supposed to be going around imposing their cultural beliefs on everyone else and we absolutely have seen in history how governments telling schools what cultural artifacts to teach has been devastating. Like sure, albertan conservatives have the power to impose book bans. But that doesn't mean I have to think governments getting into the book banning business is a good thing.
Yes? Obviously? It's unavoidable, if you refer to a girl as "she" as you are using gender. I've got young kids, they ask a million questions about gender and already form sometimes surprisingly nuanced opinions on. Of course the way teachers are speaking to highschool post-puberty kids and kindergarteners about gender is going to be significantly different - absolutely zero kindergarten teachers are planning on showing shifty's image for instead - but you know who are the trained experienced experts at teaching kindergarten? Kindergarten teachers. If I was a kindergarten teacher, I'd guess that the kind of thing being taught about on this spectrum is stuff like "we should be kind and respectful to everyone, even people who look and act differently than us".

What are you rambling about, Who's talking about the US? 30 schools in Edmonton and 28 in Calgary had books with pornographic in pictures them.
You are. You shared that hahaha pwn the libs pic of the person sucking a strap on. That' came from the US and been shared a million times as the like most extreme possible example ever found. A staple of right wing agitprop. Try to keep up.
It's not like there is some "pro porn in schools" contingent you are arguing against. What happened was the alberta government tried to get all involved in what ought to be the business of local librarians and teachers and school boards, they massively overreacted with a ridiculously stupid set of rules whose plain reading would result in far more than "pornographic pictures" being banned, and had to furiously backpedal to something more reasonable. So like ya, you've found your "Reasonable" territory, I'm also not supporting sucking strap ons as reading materials for grade 3 kids. But that was never the argument.
Of course this is all silly. Every computer and phone can access porn in seconds. You can't shield kids from this even if you want to fret and whine about it.
