I've caught up and found the list of 30 books Shifty mentions. Firstly: ZERO elementary schools on that list. Wasn't that the spot you were all worried about? What? Obviously it was a backpedal. The book ban language before was ridiculously stupid and broad, and now it's been replaced with far narrower (still pointless - let librarians deal with this) but more reasonable langauge. And it was in the face of obvious political pressure to do so. Just because conservatives have a super majority in alberta doesn't mean they are immune to

I feel like this "it's a mistake not a backpedal" is just silly word play. The original wording was ridiculously broad and vague, worse than many of the MAGA book bans from the US. The plain reading of that text was to do precisely what the edmonton school board did. The Albertan government should have ****ing known better when it made a terribly worded book ban. Now that it blew up in their face, they have had to "backpedal" or "fix the mistake" and go for a far narrower one that while still pointless is at least less obviously objectionable. Call that idiocy whatever you want.
