Too much work, not enough play. Well other than that, though. Wive returns to competition Irish dancing this weekend after major surgery, etc. Almost two years off between recovery, another injury, etc. I'm getting close to AF retirement and trying to figure out where we're going to settle down.
If I had a choice in the matter I would be on some beach somewhere.
Glad she has recovered. I was probably gone for almost all of that...I hadn't logged in for 20 months & apparently now moderate more forums than when I left.

And a damn fine job youβve done modding.

Pipe burst last night. Fortunately out in the yard. Unfortunately, the only shut-off I can find that affects it is the whole house shut off. sigh.
The door was opened again, out went one of the remaining Twilight Zone actors.
I'm back in the saddle again. First session in way too long, as I'm in Maryland on a business trip.
Wife is also back in the saddle. She just finished her first Irish Dance competition sin December of 2022. Surgery and then a knee injury and the a long slow road to recovery. It was really good to see her out there again. I don't think she won any prizes, but just getting through two championship level dances is huge.
congrats
taking an 8 and 10 year old fishing for the time today instead of jamming ncaaf kiosks - my god my life is changing quickly
I'm living with an Italian Mastiff for two weeks. He was just rescued by my friend and he's the scariest, most aggressive animal I've ever encountered.
Congrats Rick. Sounds like a winning choice.
GL, Tuma, rescues are often a challenge, and one that big is scary.
no fish, one fainting, one hand sliced open playing with a fillet knife
somehow everyone still had a good time and mom seems to still want the d

How'd the session go?
Wife and I won't be able to leave our current location for various reasons probably for a solid decade, but after that it's possible we could relocate (if desired) to almost anywhere. I'm wondering how much of a factor (if any) that access to LLSNL should weigh in on that decision. I'm currently pokring twice a week, so it is one of my main hobbies (although one of many I have in a decently balanced life).
I know you're looking to relocate for retirement; will access to LLSNL play any part in that decision? How'd you feel in the game; like you missed this hobby terribly or that, meh, whatever, you could take or leave it?

It went pretty well. I had big PPs cracked twice, but lost near the minimum on both of them (not the hand in low-stress). Both hands against the same V where I c-bet small on flop with one overcard and then turn paired that overcard, leading me to value bet again with fewer combos available. Both times he called, and alarm bells went off. Once he got a silly small bet out of me for lol pot odds OTR and showed me the FH. The second time went exactly the same except that I didn't call the suck bet on the river and he was kind enough to show me the FH anyway. So I ended up the 2.5 hour session down 46BBs, but it could have been much worse.
I felt like I played well overall. I had two SC calls that I'd like to have back, but I'm happy with everything else pre-flop, and I'm quite please with post. Sadly, that mostly meant correctly folding, as I was pretty card dead, and didn't hit literally anything the times I saw the flop.
Access to poker is a medium part of the decision. As a retiree, I'll probably be fine with home games. as I'll no longer have a clearance to worry about, and I'm told even Utah has a pretty good home game ecosystem, so I'm not too concerned about being unable to poker. I imagine I could even find home games here if I wasn't such a goodie two-shoes.
If it would satisfy your needs, come see us at the bar poker league should you wander through north Denver suburbia in your retirement search.
I've gotten to the point where I don't need to win money, just get out of the house, have a couple beers and laughs with some good folks. So it's ok for me.
I would happily play bar poker if people actually folded. Money is just how we keep score in my book, but for lots of people, if the money is meaningless, they don't play a competitive game.
We used to have military morale events where we would play "poker" that had some nice prizes. They weren't allowed to give cash, but they always bought the prizes at the post exchange, and you could take them back for store credit. The poker was ludicrous, but at least I got enough gift cards to fuel my car for like 6 months at the base gas station, and the prize was valuable enough that at least some people were really trying. They switched to token prizes and I stopped going. It was barely poker before. Now it wasn't.
I guess I'd say we have some of each. Mostly, players are ok players, and take the game seriously. But you're right, there's a lot of "I have a draw, no matter how weak or what the bet, I call."
Yeah, I remember someone telling one player that it was a mistake to call a 3-bet with 79o for something like 20% of his chips and his response was "but I could get a straight."
while I hardly play any more (although making a comeback of sorts), I aspire to play more in retirement and so I wouldn't want to move to somewhere more than an hour or so drive from poker.
albeit, having given away more than half my money last year....retirement is a long way off!
Nothing worse than playing pretty well, but having ten losing sessions in a row.
The hits:
A5 vs A4 on A54. Lost
Q8 vs JT on JT92. Lost
KQ vs AA on JT9. Lost
99 vs KTdd on J952. Lost
And the slow rolls and nit rolls are just getting out of hand.
Hopefully all this crap clears out all the run bad. 75 days to Vegas.
I'm running similarly this month.
My biggest loser this month is AA. It's been ugly.
