Apparently it was communicated to investigators that he disposed of the clothing. That would be nice to have. So too would actual footage of the shooting. Or seeing the person step into the bushes and come out with different clothes. I'm not saying that equals an acquittal. Just that it's not a slam dunk and investigators are presenting this as a little more iron clad than it really is, at least from what we're privy to. But again despite all that evidence, if the ballistics don't fit they must acquit. Same with the trajectory of the shot.

Assuming he even pleads not guilty, you have fact he already admitted he did it to his dad and pastor, who turned him in. And then you have the whole issue of what his alibi is for that time. And my understanding is the drive is 270 miles each way, so chances are he would have ended up on some traffic cam at some point along the way. And if he had his cell phone on him, that can be geolocated for that time period.

You are describing something that does happen but you are then cramming too much in that bin. One thing you aren't accounting for - and I am pretty sure I could not convince you of this but I will assert it anyway - is that you've been told in so many ways and so many times that certain achievements are impossible but in reality they are only impossible because you (the collective you) believe that they are impossible. The ballistics not fitting are not the same as the bullet being too fragmented to test. In fact that may be consistent with the type of bullet used, I’m not sure.
The law isn’t built around no doubt whatsoever, just reasonable doubt. So if the jury is convinced of the prosecutor’s interpretation of the facts established, it doesn’t matter that there could have been a second shooter that just so happened to get away at the same time as this guy was acting like the most guilty and suspicious man ever running through the campus.

I can't imagine a reason why the roommate isn't in jail lest a quid pro quo of some sorts. That might be muddying things up a bit but I'm fairly certain those texts weren't the only conversations they had. Probably talked on the phone at least, especially right before he was going to turn himself in. And we really don't know where he was the whole time so they could have been together. That's a lot of testimony they could use. In exchange for what I don't know other than the accessory after the fact. But the indictment mentioned nothing at all about when the roommate last saw Robinson, did he have a rifle, clothing matching suspect, etc. timeline, means and motive stuff they usually include.

Yeah. He doesn’t have a confession to the cops, so he’s using that as leverage to get the death penalty off the table, most likely.
The only possible other thing that could cause this case to be botched is if they somehow messed up some procedural matter with the evidence. As much as I think Patel has bungled this that’s not very common.

It doesn't appear that those text messages were obtained forensically. All the investigators have said is that they took photos of the messages that were on discord from the roommates computer and discord said those messages aren't on their servers. But that's all they've said. And they may not be communicating this info very well; those texts look more like a cut and paste ransom note than a conversation flow.

There's no hoax with the messages. The government can't lie with the indictment. If they do then the defense has a strong case for dismissal, and the government isn't going to risk that especially on something that could be easily collaborated.
