The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

and we arent even talking about universities...

Ok, I don't really care to argue this. It's a tough thing to measure and there are plenty of other cristisms about the school system. But AI tells me this:

+4
Alberta and Ontario are often cited as having some of the best schools in Canada, with Alberta leading in international tests like PISA and The Conference Board of Canada giving Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia top grades for high school attainment. However, the "best" province can depend on the specific criteria used, such as academic performance, curriculum innovation, or efficiency of spending.
Alberta
High Performance: Alberta students consistently rank at the top in national and international assessments, including PISA, for subjects like science, reading, and creative thinking.
Academic Standards: The province's school system is known for its high academic standards, with top scores in diploma exams and graduation rates.

My reaction as well

At least that's how it is in my school district, 27$/month per child. Schools aren't monitoring what kids paid and what kids haven't and not supervising them. But you are expected to pay all the fees by the end of the school year.

The lie of the West. Hilarious to see you repeat this nonsense.

I work in the construction industry. First hand experience seeing the detoriation of the skilled labour work force over the past decade. What data do you have that's it's a lie?

It's the same lie they told us 15 years ago when they convinced Canadians we needed engineers and accountants from other countries because Canada couldn't make them in-house.

And this is....uh.....checks notes......a good thing???

I would add in the constitution as a basis for his beliefs . I have watched a bunch of his videos and I don’t get the hate . He is a great debater . Now if we think he is evil because of his personal status on some issues than we should apply that to immigration and that would eliminate many immigrants On a side note flying back from Vegas listened to podcast from Shawn Ryan as

He cosplayed an intellectual. It's shocking to me that someone has these many fans when the majority of his work was arguing with 21 year old ******s that men can in fact not get pregnant.

I watched his debate at Cambridge and thought it exposed just how not smart he actually was.

No it isn't. I mentioned it in reference to shop classes not being mandatory in schools and college being pushed on kids.

When did I say it was a good thing? I was pointing out that those types of fees parents pay in Alberta are probably not included when being compared to funding in other provinces.

My bad. I was on vacation for 10 days for saying traitors to Canada should be executed. Thought you were just blindly repeating the same bs lie that made getting jobs for Canadian born Canadians much harder.

Ok. So you are telling me that if someone ever brags about Alberta having lower taxes, then that isn't a really fair comparison since they are going around taxing parents for basic public education services so they can spend less on education then other provinces while being the richest? That seems like a bad thing.

Why don't teachers do it for free if it's a basic public education service then? Parents can have their kids go home for lunch if they don't want to pay.

Why do you think it's ok to force people that don't have kids in elementary school or the public school system to pay for other kids lunchtime supervision?

Lol. By that - very stupid - argument, why force people that don't have kids to pay for ANY part of a normal school day?

Regardless, one can't really brag about alberta having low taxes without adding the important context as you demanded we add that they have additional taxes on parents that other jurisdictions don't. Who knew alberta was the land of high taxes!

From the guy living in a province as I do that has a sales tax , land transfer tax and charges for anything .

Hey I am all for not having to pay for kids education since I have none

Agreed, why force them? Maybe you should bring it up with the teachers union. I'm sure they could move around money to pay the teachers since they don't want to do it for free.

It's not a tax, it's a service parents have an option to use and pay for if they choose to because teachers don't offer it for "free". No different than before/after school care, field trips, extra cariculum activities, etc.

I have 2 and I don't want to pay for other kids. Especially not in Ontario where teachers are doing such a fantastic job that kids are failing to meet provincial reading standards.

Pretty funny article.

No idea how accurate this is, but definitely met a few americans recently that were very reticent to disclose their nationality.

This is a really weird post. Why do you keep saying teachers would do it "for free"??? Teachers don't work for free. And in other jurisdictions it usually not the teachers supervising at lunch time, those are all paid (usually much lower paid) staff position.

Normally conservatives are VERY quick to take any cost that is passed on to taxpayers and call it a "tax" so rather odd that right now you're getting all uppity that charging parents to pay for normal school activities definitely absolutely can't call that a tax no no no.

Regardless, sucks to be an Albertan parent who has to actually work during the day.

Let's say you go to the hospital and you are helped by a bunch of people. Do you think it benefited you that you lived in a society where every single one of those people had gotten an education?

Kids being able to go to school helps all of us.

Oh I agree with you 100% I just said I wouldn’t mind not paying for kids education but understand why I do .

Sure. I'd also like to not pay taxes for everything I personally don't immediately use. Except that would be a very shitty way to organize a society.

by uke_master

Ya, people are really upset about the fee. You should consult for the NDP, they can campaign on free lunchtime supervision and nudity back in elementary school libraries. Let me know how it goes.

I think it's pretty strange people would be shocked parents have to pay for a service at school but not care when a premier gives his buddy 450k or a prime minister tweets a celebrity donating millions of tax payer money like it's their own. It's a very shitty way to organize society.

Which premier gave a buddy $450,000 K

lmao lozen is the king of the whataboutism but MAN OH MAN are you trying hard with this one. Are you talking about the 7 year old trudeau era story about previously pledged aid being tweeted out? That's the whataboutism you felt the need to bring up in this context?
