Intelligent people tend to assume they know less than they really do and unintelligent people tend to assume they know more than they actually do. Basically the dumbest people are always the ones who think they are the biggest geniuses.

Yes more a case of lacking the necessary self awareness and failing to realise how relatively little they know.

It doesn't only apply to intelligence, it can be anything where the less competent assume they are more skilled than they actually are. Perfect example is someone like Rice assuming hes better at driving than professional race car drivers.

Something like that. A smart person who is an expert on a subject knows or is aware of how much he doesn't know about the subject. The more he is an expert, the more he knows of the things he doesn't know.

A dumb person who knows nothing about a subject, if he learns one thing about it, thinks that is all there is to know and therefore he knows everything and is an expert.

An example I use to experience at the poker tables a lot was when hold 'em first started getting popular was the guy who would sit down and proclaim he "knew all about poker" except for "how does this small blind/big blind thing work?" Another expert on poker who was only missing this one piece of information before he knew absolutely everything about poker.

You had to watch out for those guys since they would obviously be playing a perfectly balanced range with a game theory optimal bluff frequency, except at the time nobody knew GTO existed.

Exactly. Smart people have a lot more self awareness and also understand they can't be experts in everything. Someone in the 90th percent of intelligence understands how much smarter than them someone in the 99th percentile is. Boot lickers think they're smarter than everyone.

Intelligent people fail at things but learn from their mistakes. Be it poker or anything else, someone smart would try to learn from those who have been successful before especially if they're failing at it.
