Carlton's 27-10 season in 1972 for a last place team came across my feed. First year after an acrimonious trade from the Cardinals. Oh what could have been. He went 0-5 in May. So he had 27 wins in the other 5 calendar months. 11 times in his starts the Phillies scored 2,1, or 0 runs. He won 15 straight games thru June/July/August, ending the heater in a 2-1 loss in which he pitched 11 innings. He pitched 8 shutouts. It so could have been 30+ wins.
He apparently set the record for highest percentage of wins for his team at 46%. Oddly, second best to that was the same season, in which Gaylord Perry won 24 games and 33% of his Indians team wins.
Something like that. Halcyon days.
A good live chance for 5 players with 50 homers this year, which would be a first. 3 in and Judge and Suarez close.
Tyler Heinenman threw 33 pitches.
He gave up 13 hits and 10 runs.
No and not sure exactly what this means.
That 72 Carlton season is absurd.
If Aaron Judge gets 50, he'll be tied with Ruth, McGwire, and Sosa for most 50+ seasons.
Yes four 50 homer seasons is the most by any player and four players hitting 50 in one season is that record. Fours are wild. If Judge gets it this year, he probably is a small favorite to be the first to 5??
Springer led off the game with a homer for Tonto, then the Royals scored 20 unanswered. LOL. What is the record for most runs unanswered in baseball? Meanwhile Springer's counterpart leadoff man on the other side, Jensen, went 3-for-7 with 6 walks*.

30 runs, set by the Texas Rangers against the Baltimore Orioles on August 22, 2007, in a 30–0 victory.
I don't think Scherzer should be a playoff starter for the Jays.
If Yesavage has another strong start, I'd put him above Scherzer on the depth chart.
Kershaw is closing the book.
Scherzer has a 5.06 era.
But Verlander is crushing right now. I hope he returns next year and keeps the 300 win 4000 inning and 4000 K dreams alive one last time for baseball history. In any case, I think he'll be the last 250/3500/3500 guy for a very long time, unless baseball changes in some very drastic way. Perhaps the only way we'll see even another 250 win pitcher is if the 5 inning minimum is removed, and starters start making 3 inning starts regularly on 3 days rest or something.
The Tigers not signing Verlander shows just how despicable of an organization they run.
Brewers are 3 up on the Phillies with 7 to go. Time to bring it on home.

Bassitt now on 15 day IL taking him into October.
It should be Gausman/Bieber/ Yesavage or Berrios as the starting 4.
Scherzer should be in the bullpen now, and they should consider Lauer being in the 4th spot mix with whoever does not start game 3 of Yesavage or Berrios.
It is kind of odd because Berrios and Lauer seem to be in the bullpen now, but it should be Scherzer for sure and one of Lauer or Berrios. I wonder how Lauer felt when Bieber came on and he became the odd man out. Then, they brought up another "6th" starter in Yesavage? I bet he was WTF..??
Anyway, the Jays are in some trouble because what attributes allowed them to prevail over the long season may not play so well in the playoffs.
Bo is out and while his defence is replaceable and then some, that offence is going to be missed. Vladdy is currently in some arm swinging funk and while his line drives and lower hits still have pop, nothing in the air does. Not sure if it his hamstring but his lower body does not seem to be giving him a stable base (and he seems to have lost the will/ability to drive outside pitches to the opposite field).
The "no home runs" issue for the team is a problem. In the playoffs you are going to need Vladdy, Springer, Varsho, Clements, Barger hitting some long balls, because the Jays pitchers will be giving them up..... Against playoff pitching the "everyone chipping in" and moving people along may may not work so well.
Oh well.....hopefully the Jays will continue to overachieve and the defence will be solid, hitting with RISP will be good, and Hoffman won't blow any save opportunities. A lot to ask...
When Lauer was the odd man out, Scherzer had been doing well. He's cratered since.
Raleigh has maintained an over 50 dinger pace over the second half as well, hitting 20 over 60 games. Beyond impressive.
Because baseball is lame that's how they can miss
Here's a Barry Bonds maybe untouchable record nobody talks about.
Career putouts in LF
1. Bonds, 5226
2. Henderson, 5215
Active leader has 1725.
Interesting that it's the same 2 guys that are 1 and in walks and if Bonds had gotten a 2008 season they'd probably be 1 and 2 in runs scored also.
Wow, I had no clue that Soto was doing that with stolen bases this year. Just a little shy of a 40-40 season, and with a very high SB%. Shocked me seeing that a minute ago.

Yea that’s never coming down now that DH is in both.
Another semi-automatic nukejob from Schwarber off Eddie Cabrera. I'm sitting here thinking about how close E.C. is to being great, and then GOODBYE.
If I had a vote, I'm considering Kyle for NL MVP honors. He's about to go on a historic playoff run.
