We need to go by real political violence like in the summer of 2020 the left-wing political violence during the BLM riots all over the country. It was like 10,000 times worse than January 6.
Bottom line on January 6 there was never any real ability to take over the government. This isn’t some tiny country in South America. There ain’t gonna be some “soft coup” It’s the United States of America and you have to have an incredibly powerful military to actually take the government. That’s it there’s no debate about it. The January 6 protesters would have had to have connections to intelligence agencies and not only that but connections to officers in the US Army and millions of military personnel. It’s just something that was never the case.

Trump had every right to contest the election just like Al Gore contested the 2000 election. Interesting that the capital building was relatively untouched even on January 6. At the end of the January 6 riot, you even had people peacefully walking out of the building in a line being escorted by the police. Nobody was looting really. I actually feel safer when I see a person open carrying in a Walmart. We need more citizens open carrying in public. As someone with a CCW, I don't carry often but when I do I automatically feel more inclined to AVOID conflict of any kind. Guns make a polite society.

We live in pretty normal times where violence is generally rare and people are able to provide the type of life for 17 year olds where they are not generally forced to play that role. But I’m sure someone could present to me a situation where it would make sense. In most cases it’s probably not appropriate, is my guess.

Were you in one of these cities that "burned down" in 2020? I was in Portland, the city that probably got the worst publicity at the time. And not on the outskirts of town, but in the middle of the city, 2 blocks away from where many of the marches started. Nothing "burned down". Ordinary people were not threatened. Exactly one person died in the Portland riots, and he was a member of a far-right which had been formed specifically to fight against groups on the left. That group had driven a caravan from the suburbs through the city specifically to harass the left-wing protestors. Not to "protect" anything, but to attack them with paintball guns and fireworks. Again, someone looking for trouble who found it.
What happened when some of the protests turned into violent riots was bad. But I am certain that there would have been very few protests, much less riots, in 2020 if the country hadn't been shut down for several months. Tons of people lost their jobs. Students didn't get to go to school or even get together with their friends. All public gatherings had been cancelled and banned. People had been cooped up in their house without any opportunity to blow off steam for months.
When the George Floyd thing happened, some people finally decided to leave their house and the police decided not to break them up like they had other gatherings for the last several months. Honestly I was pissed off about that, because anything I would have wanted to do was still banned. But I guess they thought this was a 1st Amendment issue so they didn't crack down. So then it got on the news, and more people decided to join the next night. Eventually there were a huge number of people, and some of those people (not the majority) got violent.
And who caused these shutdowns? Donald J. Trump, who went on TV and said that everything should be shut down. And don't anyone give me the same old BS that the decision wasn't made by him, but by local officials. What the President says matters, and nearly every city shut down for quite awhile. Fauci and other federal government officials said it was unsafe to have businesses and schools open. And don't try to blame that on anyone other than Donald J. Trump, who chose the members of the Covid group and could have kicked anyone out at any time. Trump loved using Fauci as a scapegoat, so MAGA idiots would have someone else to blame, not understanding that he was everything he did was on behalf of Trump, who could have overruled or fired him whenever he desired. Later the shutdowns did continue in Oregon and some other states and cities far longer than in other places, which was the doing of local officials. But it was all started by Trump, and the entire economy never would have shut down if Trump hadn't initiated it.
