Pro-life conservatives VS a Simple hypothetical

by hole in wan m

Yes you can though. It's actually pretty simple. The conservatives have different definition of when life begins and when they consider something to be a human baby. If you think it's ok to kill babies because they're inconvenient ( the most common reason) then you are sick. You obviously don't need to agree with conservatives but your framing of the situation is either feeble

The room is on fire, wan, and you have 5 seconds to make a decision.

On one side of the room is a healthy one week old baby

On the other side of the room is a plate with five healthy embryos

You cannot reach both in time

Which one are you grabbing, wan, and why?

An embryo is not a human you ****ing nitwit, that’s the point

Embryos are in fact human

Stop embarrassing yourself

by Didace m

Are these embryos just hanging around the house? Or will they be implanted?

Expand on your thought process here. Let's assume they will be implanted.

Hole in wan still hasn’t answered the question, correct?

by Crossnerd m

…. I’m not sure I understand.

The point of my illustration is that everyone knows intuitively that embryos are not babies, and zero people choose to save a plate of embryos over an actual baby, despite claiming they are the same and the plate contains β€œmore lives”

This isn't really a good thought experiment fwiw. Embryos are embryos and babies are babies.

Researchers have already determined that we value 6 year olds the highest.

Maybe 5 new borns vs a 6 year old and we off the 6 year old but if it's going to be a 1 v 1 then the 6 y/o always wins. And 6 year olds aren't babies either. But we obviously assign different values to life at different stages so what you're trying to prove isn't much.

I mean, it’s pretty great if half the posters are too terrified to even answer it

We can’t even debate the embryos vs baby because they’re too scared to admit what they’d choose in the binary

Count me on team baby.

I also choose the baby against 5 really old people too.

Here's a better hypothetical that might be interesting. Try to answer honestly and not as a master debater or whatever. You said you just had a baby. On one plate is the embryo of that baby. Multiple scenarios on the other plateA) a random babyB) 2 random babiesC) meD) Obamas childrenWhat do you do in each scenario? If you're a guy in this situation image it's you're wife and e

It’s okay, wan. We know you’d save the baby.

I'd probably save my own embryo in each instance but im pretty selfish

exit 2

realistically I'd waffle on the decisions and everyone would lose though

Who the hell is really going to save embryos in a fire?

That's like neglecting to save a dying patient to save the supplies to save 5 other patients in the future.

What if the baby was Charlie Kirk and the embryos were five Mother Teresas?

Omg.

I wouldn't kill a mother in labor to stop her from pushing the abortion button.
I would kill anyone who was going to kill her (to prevent her from pushing the button).

A bit circular but I'd say life begins when we're willing to take a life to protect it.

by FreakDaddy m

Omg.

What?
You're not trying to tell me that you'd pick a newborn over a 6 y/o I hope???

I’m not going to waste an ounce of energy reading through this thread and any post after this and reading any number of posts that will infuriate me. As someone trying who has gone through a failed pregnancy and now the 2nd round of IVF who has successfully fertilized > 5 embryos that has cost me 60k and counting

Suck my ****ing dick with your ‘life begins at conception’ sanctimony, the baby is getting saved

Side note: if you *********** are super duper pro life and pro birth why in the **** am I paying 60k to MAYBE have one of the fertilized embryos actually become a kid?

Politics aside, truly wishing you and your partner joy and success SRM

I don't think they really believe it. At least they're not behaving the way most would if they learned babies were being literally murdered in the maternity ward.

by Crossnerd m

Embryos will not survive on a plate lmao

Way to avoid the dilemma, wan

How dare he answer a question as asked.

by Crossnerd m

He does this. I don’t know why.

Folks who don't understand philosophy might see CRD's post as "just arguing for the sake of arguing." I don't think that's what he's doing here.

by coordi m

Are you trying to get banned?

I decided it was a little too trolly and off topic and deleted the post.

Of course it's a human embryo, you twit!

Google 'human embryo' and please let us know what you find.

You literally don't know what you're talking about.

Please don’t make me explain adjectives and nouns
