The NHL Thread
For the 5 of us who post NHL stuff, here you go. Officially the season starts Tuesday October 11, although there were tw
Kopitar to retire. Greatest King of them all.
Who is ready for some pre-season? Interested in if any lines gel.
Habs 2C problem is well documented. Dach seems stable on his knee early in the preseason practices. Highlights of him battling with Arber Xhekaj (who also is looking good as the likely 6th D man) has most thinking he will be ready to start the season, which was in doubt a month ago. Dach was something like -30 last year and idk 43% faceoffs. But that was coming off another season ending knee injury in game 2 two years ago where Dach was, at that time, looking strong and on the way up. So, that is one unknown to look at. Moves may have to be made. Habs have extra D men and quality prospects to deal if need be.
To begin though, it seems likely Dach will center line 2 between Laine and Demidov (aka Demigod!). Both the wingers practiced a lot together this summer and Laine had his first healthy off season in years, is playing for a new contract, and seems to be in good shape and a good head space.
There is one spot open in the bottom 6...Florian Xhekaj? Joe Veleno? Joshua Roy? Oliver Kapanen?
Excitement abounds in Hab land with Zachary Bolduc and Noah Dobson added to the squad.
This is looking like a good start and with what I said about trying to get Jarnkrok, Robertson and Kampf value up.
There are probably 3 or 4 Jets prospects that could play in a top-six.
Maybe none will make the team.
It's so hard to tell when they aren't playing with or against NHL players.
Nhl scores and Halloween candy on sale in Mid-Sepember. Can we just not?
Pretty good scrap in the Habs/Pens game. Preseason hockey baby
Drafted by Montreal Canadiens- round 4 #101 overall 2023 NHL Entry Draft...like his brother, doing what needs to be done to beat the odds. idk if he makes it this year, but guys going all out to achieve a dream is some light in this sad world.
Well think we found a line that works. 😀
well...that was ugly lol
Apparently they're streaming some CHL games on YouTube these days
Guelph have 17-3 shots after 20 minutes vs Oshawa and somehow go into the locker room down 3-1
Now 17-4 in shots and 1-4 in goals. Lol
Also, half the ads on this broadcast are from an initiative against drunk driving. Makes me worry for the OHL fan base
Florida/Barkov taking Cap Circumvention to an unprecedented extreme
no. forgot it's tonight. knew it was coming up. the Athletic's Dom has habs 92.1 projected points. 51% playoffs.
After a surprise playoff berth despite a 27th-ranked xG and a minus-18 goal differential, there are many folks suggesting regression in Montreal. Two steps forward, one step back.
While that’s certainly a possibility — the Canadiens fall short of 90 points 42 percent of the time according to the model — we’re a lot more optimistic. Last year didn’t feel like a fluke; it felt like a team arriving. The Canadiens start the 2025-26 season as more likely than not to reach the playoffs again, with a much higher shot of being a top-10 team than a bottom-10 team.
could go either way they say. could be another roller coaster year like the last. in terms of the rebuild, think management plans on next year and especially two years from now being contenders for the long term. Price, Gally, Anderson off the books. Hage, Reinbacher, Fowler playing. Current youth more in prime.
That was bad.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have just signed Anthony Stolarz to a 4-year $15 million extension $3.75 AAV, which is a little less than what he wanted, so something is going on there, Mcdavid? MUAH!:p
bunch of controversy in Edmonton . The Oilers run a 50/50 draw at Oilers games and the payouts are always huge with them saying 50% goes to the winner and 50% to the charity . The problem is a group called Win50 runs the charity part and is owned by the Oilers. They are taking a huge cut and just 20% ends up going to charities .
It aint chump change either its like 80 million over 4 years
Lol sCamada
Percentages don't help kids and families in need - dollars do. By focusing on expense ratios and purposely ignoring the millions of dollars in legitimate operational costs covered by WIN50, the IJF misleads readers about our how our 50/50 operates and our overall charitable impact.

Good deal for Leafs w/Stolarz looking at his stats. Steve Dangle was happy.
"Percentages don't help kids and families in need - dollars do.". good lord what a quote.
Patrik Laine looking unimpressive, very slow. But ok, it's preseason, he'll start season on 2nd line, have to see what you got with him. Zachary Bolduc might replace him. That guy brings the compete every game they say. Hard Shot. Gave up Logan Mailloux for him. I'll be traveling, be in China. Back in late October...be interesting to see what habs do to start season vs when I get back.
I guess Leafs not going for Kaprizov now next year, 8 year 17 million Aav $136 million contract, largest in NHL history.
