living out of my car in los angeles....
Hello 2p2. My name is Rick. I'm a 30 year old poker player from Los Angeles, California. I've been playing poker sinc
$325 buy-in 302 entrants 100k guaranteed. Nice overlay. We got 2nd for $12420 (blaze it). Last hand limp with AA in sb he jams we call for 16bb he has KQ and flop is AJT no board pair and it's game over. 1st was $16660 so maybe its better we didn't win it. Weird prize totals lol, am I a crazy person now? Seeing 420 and 666?!?!I'm just a guy pretending to be another guy.
if ur not first ur last.
One of my coworkers name is Robert but he moved to Washington and I never got to make a Ricky Bobby joke with him.
Anyone else just watching tons of Charlie Kirk videos? I bought a bible recently. There's one truth from the bible that you really don't learn anywhere else and that's that we're all sinners. Where else do you learn that fundamental truth about humanity? There's also a good recipe for bread, Ezekiel Bread. So there's definitely some knowledge to be had, I've bought a bible and I intend to read it, maybe even go to church. I wasn't blessed with the gift of faith but maybe I can still be a good Christian.
It took Jerry Yang to the promised land, good for you Rick maybe read it at the table it could put some people on tilt
Doyle was a Christian maybe faith is the nuts?
Good Luck with that!
Hey Rick, what an inspiring story! Living out of your car and still crushing it at the tables is a testament to your grit $960 win at Commerce is no joke! Transitioning to PLO is a bold move, and it sounds like you're finding your groove. The $30k liferoff goal by next year is ambitious but doable with that focus. Keep the momentum going, and maybe treat yourself to a motel nig
30k liferoll? the dude won 100k+ in a mtt not to long ago and has been crushing cash games.
had some decent mtt wins as well.
Rick did you blow all ur cash on hookers and LA blow? That why you got a warehouse Job?
Yo HyperLad420 if you're reading this. Welcome to the thread. I'm no longer in a van and homeless, I now live with my grandma and work in a warehouse and am a productive member of society. Life is a journey. Still playing poker occasionally.

That seems a bit extreme. Did Jerry Yang do that lol?
You know what maybe it helps you play more fearlessly when you give your life to the lord. Maybe it is the nuts.
Thank you!

I got a warehouse job because I was on a mean losing streak. Wasn't broke yet but getting there.

How much did you lose? Current bankroll amount?
Please stop being every other post in this thread. It's off putting and annoying. In fact, please stop posting in here completely. You're the guy who is always suggesting I bang trannies in my van right? Yeah, please just go back into lurk mode.
Don't follow me bro. I'm the joker. Some things are serious some things are a joke.
Follow Jesus Christ the God of the bible. Not Charlie Kirk or Jennifer Lopez.
I played yesterday and won 2600. Going back again today. Had a few good hands. I jammed all-in on the turn overbet pot a little bit with a straight and flush draw and got called by two pair. River fills in my gutshot and I say straight and turn over my hand like I had it all along. That always feels the best, to get there on the river. A few hands later against the same young Asian guy I have AA raise from early position get two calls. Flop is T93ccx. Small blind checks I check and he bets 35 into 90. Small blind calls and I decide to raise to 250. He has about 475 total and jams, small blind folds we call and show AA he nods like I"m good. Turn is a queen and he shows QT. River ace and we got him again on the river. Good game sir.
always a good game when gazzyb is in town jk jk jk
gl and go go go go
In, following, great thread!
For some reason I decided to play 10/20 6 handed last night and got stacked set over set with 55. HJ opens to 3bb I call in the cutoff with 55 sb makes it 13bb Hj calls and I call. Flop JT2r everyone checks. Turn 5d Checks to me I bet 29.9bb sb raises to 79.6bb HJ jams 101.4 total we jam a little more sb calls 345bb pot QQ JJ 55 we lose JJ wins. I probably should fold preflop or something. Whatever.
Won 580 Friday Won 2710 yesterday.
4 session winning streak going on so far at the Commerce. Won 810 Thursday night and 3415 last night. Couple of interesting hands from yesterday. The first hand I had 88 at 5/5 while I was waiting for 5/10. This is like the first orbit basically.
Here's Some Rope
Hero 88 ($495) MP
Villain ?? (covers) BB
We open to $20 and get 4 callers.
Flop ($100) A82r
Villain donks out for $40 and we call everyone else folds.
Turn ($180) 7r
Villain bets $100 and we call.
River ($380) 6x
Villain bets $200, we snap jam for $335 and he thinks for a minute or so before deciding to call with A5os. What a punt! When I get called to go play 5/10 I consider staying because of this hand but I don't.
Playing 5/10 now against a young guy named Rick. Battle of the Ricks. He has the aggression of a young man and the heart of a man named Rick. I'm sitting near the little computer that has all the names and his says "Rick". I'm a fake ass Rick my name on the computer reads "Richard".
Battle of the Ricks
Rick#1 CO (covers) 75dd
Rick#2 BB (~$1400) AdJh
We open to $25 and only Rick calls.
Flop ($50) K96ddx
Great flop, flush draw and straight draw. Rick checks, we bet $25, he raises to $100, and we call. My first instince here was to 3bet to $310 or something just because it felt like he was raising way too much in this spot and it would be good to 3bet and possibly slow down future aggression. I just call though partially out of fear of having to call an all-in. So I'm not sure but maybe I should 3bet here. I think against most opponents just calling is right but against hyper aggro Rick maybe I should 3bet here and try to take it down right away.
Turn ($250) 8x
We turn the most beautiful card in the deck. Offsuit 8. Rick fires out $275 and we just can't do anything other than call here. And I don't take too long to do it either, quickly sort of call trying to display a false confidence, like I want him to slow down (I don't).
River ($800) 5x
He jams for about ~1k and we snap call and our hand is good. He was drawing dead on the turn. If a diamond hit I'm sure he's bluffing that too.
Won 2480 yesterday. That's 5 wins in a row at the casino in the last week or so and I'm up ten grand. Not bad at all.
Rematch of the Ricks
More lore on this Rick, someone else asked where he's from and he said the Netherlands.
Rick#1 BTN ($1770) A8ss
Rick#2 CO (covers) QJss
MP opens to $30 two guys call including Rick, I raise to $150 only Rick calls.
Flop ($370) 743ssx
Checks to us we bet $130 hoping to get a normal check raise from Rick so that we can jam it back at him. Instead he jams for our stack of $1620 total and we snap call. Turn over our hand and Rick says he's in bad shape. Turn is a nine and he says he has T9 of spades lol. Which makes my heart drop and I'm just thinking please let a spade hit. But river is another nine and he shows he was joking with QJ of spades.
Won 110 last night wearing my skeleton onesie. Gotta dress up for Halloween! There were a few other people dressed up at the casino, but not many. Was down 800 and came back at the end of the night to book a small win so that's pretty cool. Also dodgers won last night and game 7 is tonight! Let's go Dodgers!!! I went to game 4 with my coworker and bought his ticket because I thought that would be cool and he's a huge dodgers fan, he even dressed up as Ohtani for Halloween. Too bad they lost that game, but it was still fun. It's always fun to watch Dodgers games at Commerce Casino, the crowd really gets into the game. Gonna be back there tonight for game 7 for sure. Two best words in sports, "game seven".
What if all the fat people in the world and I mean like 500 pound super morbidly obese people were actually preparing for a famine that was coming in the future? If I was a big dude I would call myself 'Noah' and say that I was preparing for a famine that was coming up and that my big body was my ark.
How would you say the 5/10 games at commerce have been the last year? Used to be a reg but moved out of state and pursuing a new career but always curious about the LA poker scene. Before I left in 2023 I felt the games were dying down a bit and a lot more euros were in the games than pre covid.

I couldn't say I haven't been much overall.
A very interesting situation happened the other day at the casino. I was playing 5/10 as per usual at the Commerce and Di, a Chinese woman who is pretty much always there whenever I've been there, comes over to our table and says something in Chinese to another player at the table. When she says this, and she says it in a sort of sly way by the way even though it's in Chinese, the Chinese older guy she's talking to looks right at me. Now I don't speak Chinese but I'm near certain I know exactly what she told him. It's the same thing she's constantly telling me at the table, that I "never bluff". Lol. I think this is the same Chinese woman who said something during a hand to another player earlier in this thread in fact. I don't like her. Anyways one time she told me that I never bluff and I told her that maybe I'm just so good that she's never seen it. She disregarded that. There was another player there in the convo too and I said that I read in Caro's Book of Poker Tells that you should never bluff a woman because they're generally calling stations. So I told her that I never would bluff her because she's a woman. Which is fairly true lol. Anyways that's why I know that's what she told this guy.
So because I believe with a strong likelihood that's what she said and I'm willing to bet on it I told myself I'm going to win a hand that I shouldn't because of what she said. Then the perfect situation comes up with this hand.
Bluffing With Impunity
Hero CO ($1420) K9dd
Villain UTG+1 (covers) ??
$20 blind-raise/straddle villain opens to $50. We raise to $160 with K9 diamonds and he's the only caller. I think to myself, this is it, I'm blasting.
Flop ($350) T82hhx
He checks and we bet $175, he calls.
Turn ($700) 4x
He checks and we jam for $1085 after 30 seconds or so. He's thinking for a few minutes and I'm a statue. I'm not nervous because I know he's folding, I have aces or kings here. He will fold jacks or queens. Then Di gets up from her table nearby and comes kind of watching the hand and the older Chinese guy can sense her behind him. He folds pretty quickly after she starts watching the hand and while she's going back to the table I ask the guy, "do you want to see a bluff?", he nods and I turn over the K9dd and Di sees it as well. In the moment I was acting in anger that these two were speaking Chinese and talking about me behind my back and conspiring to formulate a gameplan against me. I just wanted Di to look like and feel like an idiot. But the better path is certainly just to fold the hand without showing and continue to bluff this guy just frequently enough that it's believable. But I have an ego and I honestly just feel mad that she's telling someone in Chinese "i don't bluff" in front of me. Not cool.
What do you guys think? Was I right that she was saying that about me considering she's told me that dozens of times while playing with me? Or do I have schizophrenia lol? Either way I'm kind of glad that I taught her a lesson and what I really wanted was to make her feel stupid enough that she wouldn't give advice like that in the future. That's ultimately what I was going for she has to remember that the next time she wants to say something about how someone plays. And if the Chinese are teaming up like that I guess I gotta team up too right? I hate that aspect of live poker all the regs sharing info about new players. Maybe I just need to get used to that because it's useful.
Who's joining my poker gang? We're gonna all dress like old school greasers and wear leather jackets. All people are welcome in my poker gang. We're gonna look out for each other. I need spies in my poker gang. Who speaks Chinese and can infiltrate the Chinese player's gang at the casino? I need someone to translate every language being spoken that they don't think a white guy like me would know so that I can use that information against them. We need to take the informational warfare to the next level. We need an enigma machine.
Is it cheating to tell a player at my table between hands that I "never bluff" in Chinese? What would you call it?
