I woke up in the middle of choking to death again; though to be accurate, it was towards the end of the process--woke up

Folding Axs pre is too nitty. I'm already tighter pre than 90+% of the players in that population. I can't just sit there all night getting blinded down.

I don't feel that I got lost in the hand. The small samebet on the turn was an important inflection point. Bart Hanson talks a lot about how you should add a few more weaker hands into Villain's range when he does that on the turn. If he'd bet the standard 1/2 to 2/3 pot in that spot, I would have turbo mucked.

I would also fold pre here, and I'm fairly certain Bart would too.

I would fold the river.

The A2s hand is most frequently folded pre with a small frequency of 3bets - as to dissuade dominating hands to flat you IP and the suited A blocker plays fairly well vs an UTG flatting range IP. With your present BR though, I would just fold it 100% of the time.

GL friend and hope to see an upswing very soon at both the tables and the machines

I agree with the others and esp dubnjoy, that's exactly what I would do. Yeah folding suited aces pre isn't the greatest, but here you face a UTG raise and are in the worst possible position, with several peeps behind you. If you don't know UTG very much, you can normally fold that without much thought towards it, esp in 1/2. Without dissecting too much, not a big fan of the other streets either. If you want to play for whatever reason, yep 3bet is pretty much the only way. If you think you are too tight, there are so many better spots to open up. Like in LP, esp against one or more limps you can normally easily open up and raise a very wide range of hands. Just my 2c.

feels kinda resutls oriented tbh, 99 is basically the only hand he has with 9x other than some oddly played A9s and confirmed he's up against a fish who himself didn't realize that he blocks 9T so heavily that he just called instead of jamming

i'm fine with it

Thanks guys, for the thoughtful discussion. Good stuff.

I'll be back on the tables tomorrow for the Thursday night game.

You wanna open Axs even A6-A8 from all positions, BUT flatting an UTG open from UTG1, where you leave his range uncapped AND you leave everyone else behind you to act is just bad play my friend. It simply is. You can 3bet like idk 7-15% of the time and the rest of the time toss that A2s in the muck.

You’re lost in the hand because you allowed a situation to develop in which you had no control of the hand.

β€œI’m already tighter than 90% of the players…” ok so let’s make exploitive adjustments than give us a chance to put our villains in difficult spots, not adjustments based on emotion that leave us out in the wild with uncap ranges.

Also let’s turn our marginal made hands into bluffs when they unblock made hands that could fold to a big bet, instead of just randomly deciding β€œI can push this guy off that pot maybe, let’s get our money in the middle” that’s not ideal.

Yesterday, after 2 hours checking the slots, I was down around $50, and I didn't feel like playing poker, so I left.

But on the way out, within a few feet (3-4 meters) of the exit, I found a likely slot and took one more shot, and that netted me a hundo, so that wasn't a complete waste of a trip.

Thanks Natamus! Great way to start a new page.

Last night I showed up for a wee hour slot run, but competition reared his head partway through, and the sight of the two of us leapfrogging each other over a long line of machines likely amused, but hopefully did not instruct, the eye in the sky. I won another $80 or so, most of it from a Hexbreak3r machine, my first win on that title in many Fridays.

Still getting hex plays nice! That’s one of the worst feelings grinding graveyard and someone competent is checking too. Very odd that person wouldn’t go the opposite direction as you and hit different stuff unless there’s just one section with all the vulture machines.

Yeah it was a long, nearly-empty bank of machines and his best play was to start at the other end and work towards me, and remain undetected for as long as possible, as I was taking my sweet time, but instead he pulled one of these...

and kicked off a leapfrogging race.

We love positive advantage play sessions no matter how big or how small. We do NOT like competition blowing cover though.

I had a degen session a week ago at the sluts and lost ~all the spilmaks only to play an old $3 max bet three reel and land a $3000 hand pay. Your method is much smarter.

Holy crap, I actually forgot about the dry challenge. I mentioned this to Gambelina and she suggested that the wagon ride may have changed into a lifestyle rather than a challenge. Who knows? I'm still sober, and still doing my little stretches and exercises and whatnot, but I still have a dadbod, regardless. Middle age is fun; just you wait, young 'uns.

I'm back to reading Shakespeare, and I fell into a small rabbit hole with Hamlet. Like, his uncle Claudius killed Hamlet's father, Hamlet Senior, the king, and married his mother, and Uncle Claudius become the king. And it never before occurred me that Hamlet, the son of the king, didn't succeed to the throne, being of age—ostensibly in his twenties. So why did his uncle get the crown instead?

With some cursory research, I found out that the Danish throne, up until the mid-17th century, was elective. When a king died, a council of nobles elected a new one. Most of the time, they elected the eldest son of the old king, but not always. So Claudius killed Hamlet's dad, seduced his mom, and stole the election from him, presumably with the aid of a good word from the queen herself.

Anyways, that's a little deep into the weeds, but it goes to show that when a story is good, you sometimes miss features that might otherwise come across as glaring inconsistencies.

Time for a new challenge:

Show up to work at the casino six nights in a row, starting tonight. I will report on each session here.

Also, to get me back to the tables, play the poker room's football promo on Thursday, Sunday and Monday night.

Feed us HHs so we may badly analyze them **nom nom nom**

loving the new grind dedication and yes, please let us badly analyze all the hands that keep you up at night

Thanks rickroll!

Breakeven night at the slots; they were pretty well picked over. I suspected a long time ago that I'd be forced to go back to poker as the main source, and that time has come.

Poker tonight...

-$160 at the tables and no promo hits, +$50 at the slots.

I could not hit a flop to save my life, and the vast majority of hands I opened went multiway. You have to play straightforward 4-5 ways; someone's going to have something they like and they're going to look you up most of the time.

I tried increasing my opens, went up to $22 once with QQ after two limps, and I got 3 calls and an AK2r flop, and action in front of me. Now, the EV shows up when you instead hit a hand in that spot and extract beaucoup value; it's like winning a bomb pot, but I wasn't in the hitting hands mode last night.

Slots tonight.

I did not go last night. Challenge failed. I offer no excuse.
