Thinking about the past is a way of trying to bring non-existence, into existence. IOW an attempt to make the non-real…. real.

Where is the past, now? Does it exist? When. Where. How now brown cow.

Or is it existence into non-existence?

What is difficult about using the formula F = (9/5)C + 32 to figure out at what temperature Fahrenheit and Centigrade are the same? I used it tonight in a pub quiz, and they were looking at me like I'm some kind of space alien. Politics, economics, human relationships, having a life, etc. are complicated, but that's like the simplest thing in the world.

No. That's attachment, being sneaky like that.

i meant to post a time stamp to it

Fahrenheit was dutch I was told. Now he was German.

There is no past. There is no future. There is no now. There are no things. These are all grunts made by clever apes. What's happening is what's happening.

The grunts is what they are. Words in a language game. Just like love, death, pain, hate, right and wrong. Why does that diminish them, or make you rather they'd be something else?

What are you talking about?

A snail streaks along
Smiling and humming a tune
Dodging stomping boots

"The light dove, in free flight cutting through the air the resistance of which it feels, could get the idea that it could do even better in airless space" - Kant

Is "What's happening is what's happening" a large leap beyond experience or the tiniest of careful movements on the Ice? Or maybe the trapped fly seeking a different perspective. Or maybe just the crunching sound of the snail under the stomping boot?

Is this language game we're playing more like baseball or marbles? Or maybe like the clever ape ordering his breakfast.

The traveling metaphor
Was ripe for treason

Words probably have some sort of useful relationship to reality.

Hi Brian

A map has a useful relationship to what's being mapped. But what's being mapped? Is it reality? The map is not the territory. But what if the territory is another map? Where is the reality? Words end up linked to other words which is what LLM's exploit. When the words impact us they evoke subjective experience via our past experience with them and the complex of metaphors on which they play. It's a special case of the general problem of getting from our subjective experience to an "objective truth" about what's "really" out there.

This is all very philosophical and maybe, who cares. I'm in full agreement with one of your most astute posts which pointed out that words work well enough to get us the right change at the market.

Do you think Zeus is making a comeback under the name "Bitcoin"?

Wittgenstein ver 2.0. I prefer ver 1.0.

Like Bertrand Russell.

I was too lousy a student to bother reading 1.0. I wish I could have my undergraduate years again.

Talking to myself about plans for tomorrow I found myself saying, "If I were you I'd get that done early".

Probably also to insanity.
