Mix game journey
Having had three years of experience in mix games ranging from getting raked to death at $4/8 to shot taking three times
late night 8/16 game at rw.
just had a hand where ruth sun 3 bet me on flop and on turn and i broke 7532A in A-5 and she has an 8….ridiculous
she is crazy aggro. i obv know that. but jesus.... what a kamikaze play.....
so there is an interesting game and aaron foust introduced a twist.
game is watermelon - 5 card omaha hi with 3 boards. Each board is worth 1 point and whoever has the highest point scoops. If two people have the same point, the board with the lowest ranked winning poker hand = is eliminated, and the pot is chopped based on the original point distribution on the remaining boards.
So there was a hand where i had set on first board (may be good), boat on middle (good), and set on bottom (no good).
action on river went bet, i call, 3rd player raises, and 1st player 3 bets. I figured they both had the same straight on 1st n 3rd board and i cold call 3 bet hoping to quarter them.
It's hard to understand, take your time.
almost the last hand of the night i flatted 278 on button and it was 3 way, i drew 3 and make 76542 on river the original draw 1 raiser who broke an 8 on the turn XR me. I fold my #4. It should be pretty standard against this specific player. turns out she had 76532She is not breaking an 8 or 9 then make #5 (85432) then check raise me. The break and check raise means a seven and my seven is the worst 7.
You have to have the ability to fold a 7 in 2-7, just like you have to have the ability to fold top boat in PLO.
shared life stories n path in poker.
he was a pro from 2012-2019 in vegas. he told me some aria 15/30 and bellagio 80 dynamics. some 40/80 and crazy mike's game back then. he implied that i am one of the players that "pass the eye test" and likely can make it but even i can make 200 a year, dont do it. Get my degree be a professor. Coincidentally I went to matt vengrin's ramen place last night w a buddy and he used to be a private game guy in san diego and he told me the same thing. The money winning players make is only the tip of the iceberg of all the money in poker.... but obviously my ppl skill doesn't warrant me to do other things in the industry than playing myself. And obv the sexual harassment charge at uc davis took away my passion in teaching back then.
the israeli genius and i did some profiling on the players and he told me some back stories of some good regs and how they came up and how lucky they got at various times because he lived through those periods of time. i told him my bkr and what im trying to do before the next series.
Strat wise, he tells me to stop quitting early, stop playing short sessions - because most of the money he makes in mix is towards the end of the session where ppl are drunk n playing bad.

No, each card is not 2%. Let's look at the JJxx hand. Assume his cards are totally live. There are 3 of you, so he can see his 6 cards, 8 cards from both of you (4 each) and 4 other cards from 3d street. That leaves 34 unknown cards, which is conveniently very close to 3%. Dead/live cards in stud are very important.
You are about a 3-1 favorite here, giving one dead card for the flush, no dead cards for the JJxx, and your boat outs completely live. I'd guess your boat outs weren't completely live, if 2 of them are dead, you drop to 71.5%

i kept track during play and was up 3075 but i was actually only up 2175 based on chip counts
this 900 discrepancy against me got me to misplay the first hand in 3/600.... 2-7
dont think result is affected but still....

lost 11k
by then angry and adi both down 10
peter up like 9
minh n eric both up 20
then the rest w n l split between martin schafer n noori
the three key hands ill talk about - i lost just shy of 10k

still confused how i mistracked by $900 in taiwanese n chinese such a big number
when i mistrack i always round towards losing so i docked $450 each from my winnings in both games
Minh casually makes a comment when I quit: you always lose never see you win.

5) PL 2-7 6k cap. Big hand alert.
I open 248 in HJ, eric defends big. 2-2. XX.
1-2. he checks i make 23478.
In 2-7 triple draw he has to bet. in pot limit, you can argue for a check if he bricks. i can't see a reason why he checks if he has a made hand unless he's trapping. Obviously I considered it when he checked to me but 87 perfect warrants a value bet. I bet 700 into 900 (300 is dead ante which never counts towards the pot). Now Eric check raises to around 2300. Since I already has in my mind that he doesnt have a value hand, instead of folding or calling 1600, I put in 4900 more to cap it to 6k. Eric calls and pats, I pat behind my 87432. He has #4.
I suck

if we are critical. i donated 4900 to eric, maybe 1200 more in A-5. then i donated 1500 to monette. So i could have just lost only 3 dimes on the night. instead i lost 11k. but i feel good about how i played
holy.
open 24qq double in HJ brian defends a23j in big blind
i bet on 56T flop he calls
Turn Ace, he check raises me. river inconsequential 7.
I call w 24 and get scooped.
stuck about 1600.
So who do you think is telling you the truth? The people saying you're a great player who can make six figures easily, you just need to play more, or the guy who tells you that you never win?

Why not be critical? You gave away 13 bets, in the biggest game you'll play. How are you going to get those bets back? Do the people you play against in that game ever give away that many bets? You've said that your winrate in the 80 game is $40/hr, so you'll have to grind that game for 200 hours to make back the 8k that you punted, not to mention the 3k that you lost playing your best. Seems like an inequitable situation, no?

They both are telling the truth. They just play me in different games. And they both polarize a bit with their statements.
I am critical in general yes, but i'm trying to be critical on close spots too, not giving myself the benefit of the doubt. I use the word Punt to be hard but they are not punts. I'm saying if i categorize them as punts, then....
Overall I played well last night but yes, need to find a way to win.
You sound like me in the big mix I play sometimes. Totally out matched by the other regs because I have not put in the intense study required to win. Wouldn’t delude yourself, either study and get better practicing in smaller games or stop playing the big games altogether.
omg this is tilting
(A4)A2J7(6) vs (24)53Q9(6)
