I stopped by the cemetery today to make a mortgage payment and noticed that six of our immediate neighbors had their grandparent names chiseled in their headstones. I knew some people did that, but that small sample suggests it may be more common than I would have thought.
When we were shopping headstones I was afraid that my daughter was going to want my wife's grandparent name added because she had come to use it so often herself. I was prepared to invoke a contentious veto, but fortunately she didn't ask. Perhaps my choice of grandparent name prevented an embarrassing public family squabble 😃
