Credit Cards - Best and Worst
Sorry if thereβs already a thread about this but Iβm interested in learning more about credit card bonuses, points, perk
Costco Citi card for gas: 4% cash backApple Card where I can Apple pay: 2% cash backBonus whored Capital One business card recently: spend $6k in 3 months for $750 bonus, no annual fee.For business I use Chase Ink Premier. It was $1000 bonus for 10k spend in 3 months.I need to look at the Amex stuff and see what bonus whoring is available now. I had the Blue Preferred and the H
I worked as a mediator for a short while and we would sometimes work with customers and credit card companies to find a resolution.
Capital One refuses every mediation attempt. They wonβt work with customers AT ALL once it gets to that point. Other companies do. Although I never plan on needing to do that with any CC company, the fact that Capital One took that position with others was enough for me to never get a Capital One card.
I use a 2% cash back card as a default, then supplement that with ones that have rotating 5% categories (Chase, Discover, etc). As mentioned an Amazon card for 5% there. Also have a couple Citi cards that sometimes have crazy good offers.
Currently shopping for a new long-intro 0% card as I have one that's expiring and have a balance to transfer. Wells Fargo and BofA both send me offers, but WF is a train wreck and I'm not sure BofA is much better.
the real money is in whoring the signup bonuses
The Amazon card also offers 6 or 12 month interest free payment options on purchases over a certain amount, $500 I believe but might even be less than that, which I take advantage of frequently. I buy nearly everything off of Amazon so that 5% back really adds up.
A great No Annual Fee credit card I have is the Chase Freedom:$200 BONUSEarn a $200 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.DINING3% on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery servicesDRUGSTORE3% on drugstore purchasesTravel5% on travel purch
I recently got this, haven't yet looked into how to use the reward points. Is there anything you can get that's a better deal than straight cash?
I ****ing love Amex. Double charged at a fast food automated order taker the other day. Phoned Amex and got straight through to a call centre in my country. They had given me the money back before I'd even hung up the phone. Other providers you have to fill out forms and wait ****ing weeks.
The best cards are the ones you can default on and negotiate for 20% of the balance without being sued.
FACTS
does discover or mastercard give like 1-2% cashback on any purchase or no?
Mastercards are all different depending on which bank is offering a particular card, and even each bank usually has different cards with different benefits and fees.
I don't know about Discover cards.
What rob wrote for MC. As noted above, Discover is 1% cash back with a 5% rebate on certain categories. Categories change quarterly.
I believe Discover offers various different cards and programs though.
Must've had a spammer bump, lol.
I have a big purchase this week so am waiting for my new AMEX Mariott Bonvoy business card. 125k Mariott pts bonus with some spend (site now says 6k+3k spend but pretty sure it's just 6k for me). Looking to get away from the Hilton rewards program. I think maybe Hyatt will end up being what I settle on as I think you can get rooms at a really decent rate by converting Ink pts to Hyatt pts, but that was quite awhile ago that I looked into it, well see. For now going to give Mariott a shot.
I have another big purchase coming on Nov. 20, so I need to find one more card with a great sign up bonus. Any suggestions? It'll be around 6k spend, but I can also move some bills around if the threshold is a little higher than that.
Not a CC and sorry mark that I don't have a good recommendation for you, but Chase offered me $900 if I open an checking/savings account, sign up for direct deposit, and keep $15k with them for 90 days. This seems like a snap accept, but also very generous, which makes me wonder where I should be putting my money.
Yeah, my bus account is with Chase for that very bonus, lol. Thanks though. ****ers still send me the same offers all the time even though I can't do it again.
My fav cards are the ones that let you get an authorized user card in any made up name you want without having to prove that it's a real person.
I hate Amex. During a time the economy was in the dumper I was traveling to Vegas. I used my Amex for everything since they had free good car rental insurance. There I was in the rental car line when the desk agent told me my card was declined. I had like an 18 grand card limit, and my balance was something like 4 grand. They were not in a very solvent position and some beancounter told them to cut their potential liabilities and chop people's credit limits. No notice. They chopped my limit to something like $4050. The next month after I paid $200 they cut my limit by $200. That meant I couldn't use it for travel any more because every time I paid some down, they dropped my limit. I called to complain and the a-hole on the line told me to pay down my card a little.
I had never been late and always paid more than the minimum. For this I was paying them a couple hundred bucks a year.

Besides the 1% Discover gives they will occasionally have a higher amount between 1.5% and 5% for gas for the month, or Walmart for the month, etc. When I accumulate $1000 in my cashback, I pull it out and buy something idiotic. It generally takes a couple three years to accumulate a grand.

lets say im selling stuff out of my garage. i buy about 500$ inventory a month to sell. even tho thats piss change for all of you if I wanted to get a cashback on purchases,
any CC that gives me 1% cashback or 2% would be standard right? mst big chains offer that? i was loking and It seems discover did but idk if they do anymore
Discover changes every quarter. I use my business Chase Ink for most everything as it gets 2% on everything. There's a few catagories I use other cards for. Costco visa for all gas, it's 5% back at Costco and 4% everywhere else.

I looks like they are going to honor this, but Chase is taking their sweet ass time paying me out for the 3 month portion of this, which is a little more than annoying.
i got a chase united explorer card - was essential when i got it as it had no foreign transaction fees, gave a bunch of miles at signup and miles back for every purchase but i'm looking to expand
got a ll bean one because it meant big discount on first purchase and had no annual fees
same with microcenter
but i never use those - they were just one time usages
tried getting the frontier airlines card but they kept sending it to the wrong places and eventually just told them to cancel it

That's weird. It's been a few years, but I don't recall being annoyed by any delays. Have you passed your statement date yet? You'd think that could be the only hold up.
