Is this a young Joe Pesci or something?

Don't know who the college kid is. The prof is Gore Vidal I believe.

I can't imagine being around a bunch of dudes talking about grammar. You must have been the kid who got beat up in the locker room.

Mong bragging about not having any literate friends is totally on-brand imo.

Do you ever take a day off? on purpose?

The phoneticists are worse they just end up making a bunch of strange noises.

How dare you! IPA is so precise and elegant, a universal bridge between all language in a single script. ****ing love phonetics.

by mongidig m

Have you ever had sex with a girl?

I mean, I don't know that I'd quite call your mom "a girl", but she is sure young at heart.

by geezerchess m

Okay, thanks. What's his phone number?

Understandable, since you're extremely shallow and uneducated.

Arrant* nonsense

Actually, now that I've sobered up. It was "arrant pedantry".

"This is the sort of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put."

Doubt it was expurgated, as that sounds much better than "bloody nonsense".

Almost never. Why?

I wouldn’t be bragging about watching some kid be beat up in a locker room for having interest in school and not doing anything. It’s kind of an embarrassing thing to be using as a way of saying someone isn’t cool.

Normally we celebrate people who defend vulnerable people against bullies, not the bullies themselves. And well-adjusted people when they become adults don’t look back fondly on their tacit support of such behavior.

Usually because the kid that got beat up in the locker room is now cutting their min wage paychecks.

I have no doubt Gates, Zuckerberg, and Buffet got beat up in a locker room once or twice.

I swear to god - this is a true story from a train to work. I was on the Essex line, but I was basically one stop from the money. Limehouse. One day I get on the train, there are these two very, very chavvy girls basically talking loud enough so that the whole carriage can hear. One says something about Churchill. The other one says, "oh ****, that's the dog in the Direct Line adv

You’ll know The Grapes, then. Lovely pub, also had a good fish restaurant upstairs.

I do indeed. Went there a couple of times.

Also, not a big fish eater myself. But I do have this for you:

Saw Steven Berkoff in a different pub around there once, came up to him and told him I loved him in Beverly Hills Cop. That went down as well as can be expected. He was just like "**** off".

Still messaged a bunch of people I knew and was like "bro! that's the bad guy in Beverly Hills Cop" with pictures. In my defence, I was a young 32 at the time or something. Yuteful indiscretions.

He actually lives there and I think he might own some of the pubs. I think when I accosted him he was 82. Must be 90+ or dead now.

Born and bred in Stepney, which is where I lived in the 90s and how I know the Grapes and all the Wapping pubs.

I lived on the lock for a long time.

My apartment was 3rd one from the left on the bottom floor.

If you want to get it 100% on the nose, it's "to whom I'm not sexually attracted". Ending the sentence on a preposition is a no no.

Not really, that's kind of a made-up rule that's never been widely followed.

No ****, Sherlock. Maybe do a bit more reading posts and a little less spewing dogshit from the side of your neck.

When I lived there several locals who'd worked for the Krays were still very much around, and you had to be a little careful what you said and to who you said it.

There was one locals pub just the other side of the Mile End Rd that was full of ageing gangster types and their families, and sitting in there with a mate and watching it all over a few pints was very entertaining.

Well you're in an odd mood today.

No that's not how language works.
