When I lived there several locals who'd worked for the Krays were still very much around, and you had to be a little careful what you said and to who you said it.
There was one locals pub just the other side of the Mile End Rd that was full of ageing gangster types and their families, and sitting in there with a mate and watching it all over a few pints was very entertaining.
