British Politics
Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.
So, thanks to the Elrazor's of the world,
Police are being forced to disclose the ethnicity of suspects in response to a rise in far-right speculation on social media, a former senior officer in the Metropolitan police force has warned.
On Sunday morning at 10.30am, British Transport Police said two men had been arrested after multiple stabbings on a train in Cambridgeshire: a 32-year-old black British national and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent. The 35-year-old was released with no further action, and “was not involved” in the attack, BTP said in a statement later on Sunday evening.
New guidance was issued in August to combat misinformation on social media, which spread last summer after the murder of three schoolgirls in Southport.
Campaigners have warned that the move may encourage focus on the racial background of suspects and lead to further rightwing conspiracy theories when information is not released to the public.
This was a good example of why they feel they should release these details now - within minutes of the attack becoming known social media was full of fake claims from the far right of the attacker(s) shouting "Allahu Akbar".
Please do go digging around on the old forum and find all these other people.
as for my views on migration, I've been clear and consistent. However Simple Jal, I'll repeat.
The vast majority of crimes are committed by young males of low socio-economic status aged approximately between 18-35. This is true across time and culture. The demographic of people hopping on boats to travel across the channel is largely young males of low socio-economic status aged approximately between 18-35.
Therefore, allowing a significant increase in this population will inevitably lead to an increase in crime. This is probably a bad idea.
Your logic is truly terrible because it assumes behaviour in one’s own country to be the same as after migrating, and in addition to this the data on crime among immigrants, which I e posted here twice before and which you’ve seen, show that you’re wrong.
But logical thinking clearly isn’t your strong point. We’ve yet to see if you even have a strong point.

We're somehow in the worst of all worlds. I don't care that much if police want to release demographic data about individuals who have been arrested. I'd opt not to personally but it's hard to make the case against transparency (in the US, they just release the name).
But we're in a situation where the police follow a policy of not releasing the information until nutcases on the Internet pressure them into doing so.
I broadly welcome 2 things that seem to be coming our way wrt labour ideas.
raising income tax instead of more austerity
banning choking porn - I didn't even know this was a thing until recently when there was articles on BBC website about young women telling of how they were choked without foreknowledge, and clearly that's seriously messed up. porn distorts human sexuality pretty badly already among the young, 'choking' is just a horrible thing to link in with sexual stimulation.
Agree with both points - actual violence in porn (as opposed to role playing stuff) should be outlawed - but Labour were stupid to put themselves into this position of having to break an election promise. It's more or less over as a party, and in its modern incarnation I'd be glad to see it gone. People who agree with its right wing authoritarianism will tend to support the more authentic Tories or Reform.

I don't think that's quite how it worked out. There was a policy change following the Southport debacle (when social media was filled with rwnj spreading malicious rumours that the killer was an immigrant) to release details of the arrestees ethnicity after a certain amount of time, which from what I've read was adhered to in this case.
Tough couple of days for Elracist and co.
Samir Zitouni is an Algerian immigrant.
Bloody immigrants, coming over here and…..saving British lives.
Awesome, a brave man, wish there were more like him about. The other two men that intervened too, all brave and it's good to know there are people like this about.

They obviously ought to release it when the suspect has not been detained, because they need to release a description, and there's no reason not to release it when the suspect has in fact been detained. Failure to do so has consistently been shown as harmful and likely to lead to damaging speculation. Treating such information as taboo may make sense to the rainbow-lanyard young (white, privileged) graduates who seem to rule the roost at the Home Office, but it doesn't to most people.
Stop making it so front and centre that you revel in bad things when they allow you to make a political point, i'ts doing you no favours. You're coming across like a psycho when you do that.
I know you aren't really, so take this as a bit of a steer.
Isn't this all you are doing in the President Trump thread?

This is a terrible conversation for the media to be having and the police to facilitate. It legitimises the conversation when it happens to be refugees/muslims etc who do something. None of the far right/extremists will put it in context and we have opened the door to it's relevance.
the buck stops with starmer and cooper who instead of backing the police in releasing measured information spinelessly appeased reform once again.
Police have been encouraged to consider disclosing the ethnicity and nationality of suspects charged in high-profile cases, after facing mounting pressure over the details they make public.
The interim guidance from the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) aims to reduce the risk to public safety where there are high levels of misinformation about an incident.
Home Secretary Yvette Cooper welcomed the guidance as a "step forward", adding that the government and the public want "greater transparency".
Dude, all I did was praise brave people that intervened and may have saved lives. I am glad such people are around.
Sometimes, you need to get over yourself.
I was making the general point about the police and media

Your logic is truly terrible because as I've never made claims about immigrants and crime, only a certain sub-population (young, male), so I'm not wrong about anything.
Scurry off to the Israel/Palestine thread and go attack The Jews why don't you?

You're perpetually wrong in the assumption that people commit crime at the same rate as migrants as they did domestically, and this is easily shown in the data.
Take the L, recognise your biases and move on Elracist. Maybe a better human will emerge one day.

I'm not wrong as I've never said this (or at least I've never said what I think you're saying here, I can't be sure as the grammar is so bad).
I've argued this for a long, long time so in a vacuum it's a good move.
However, politically, it's terrible. They would have won the last GE at a canter regardless of their manifesto, so they should have included the raise there, or at the very least not committed to not raising IT, NI or VAT. They have succumbed to yet another self-inflicted wound that was completely avoidable, it further erodes their credibility and gives Reform yet more ammunition for the next election.
Yeah, politically it's not great cos the red tops can crow and self-flagellate about it, but it's so much more rational and honest than yet another stealth tax somewhere. I hope Labour use that to argue why they did it, but their record shows they are useless at managing the media, and have the political acuity of a hairy arse-wart.
But, also, **** the Daily Mail etc
