2025 NFL Season Thread: Can Uncle Rico save the Broncos or will they be Nixed?
Greetings friends.
Those of you who know me know me as a Niners fan full of fantastical levels of vitriol and rage. I hav
Don't get what the Jets are doing at all tbh.
Trading away old guys for picks in order to rebuild, cool.
Trading away 27 and 25 year old guys in the NFL, where you're always one decent QB season away from contending and you've already got a really solid defense?
You're literally just hoping to replace the guys you just traded with the picks you got. Gus nailed it earlier, overrating picks and potential.

The Jets need a QB or it doesn't matter what talent they have on the team. They are clearly acquiring picks to position themselves to do just that. Also, A new regime wants to be able to bring in their own people. I get the Sauce trade. I don't know that I would trade a dominant player like Nelson though.

Right, but no team is going to spend 5 FRP on drafting Oops-all-Quarterbacks until they find one that hits (I think someone suggested that on 2p2 back before it was a ghosttown years ago actually...).
They already suck and their FRP this year is going to be high enough to grab Mendoza or Moore, so why burn the house down for parts you would want to keep. New Regimes bring in their own coaches, not typically players.

But didn't they already do that with Zach Wilson?
The problem they have is getting one decent QB season... which a lot of teams have problems with.
NOT!
The good news is that KC and Buffalo did nothing. That was my biggest fear.
It sounds like Buffalo tried but couldn't get it done. As poorly as they draft in the first round I would think they would have tried to make a big splash for a proven stud WR. Maybe they just weren't available. I guess it's Gabe Davis time again.

New regimes usually ride the first year with the players they inherited and then start making changes as needed. It's possible the Jets trade for a QB. Also, there are some really bad teams out there who might out Jet them for a better draft slot. They may need to move up.
I'm just playing devils advocate. I haven't had the time to dig into how this might play out. History would say the Jets are probably doing it wrong.
BTW....Was I supposed to multi quote the last two posts? Or is that just when you are responding to several posts? What's the rule of thumb here? I'm not so good with posting etiquette.

you could try not being racist
No one overrates draft picks more than the NFL. Colts are in win now mode and aren't going to have a high pick. Like 1% chance they would ever get somebody that will be on Sauce's level at basically any position where they will be drafting. Have to get towards a top 5 pick to actually try and match. Plus they got him for 4 years now. Rams have been pretty successful with their
Couldn't agree more.
eh. I think it was me who posted the phrase you are saying is/was racist. Which of course, wasn't the intention and I would hope that as an Australian who isn't/wasn't aware of the origin of that or other phrases like that which I might also be using in a way that is offensive to some, I probably get more benefit of the doubt than others.
Albeit, I also know that people accusing other people of being an 'ist' of some kind rarely care about benefit of the doubt because they care more about the accusing part than anything else, including the offense caused/taken by the actual perceived target of the 'ist'
The Sauce trade made a lot of sense for both sides, regardless of what the trade value charts say.
this was a giant thing in here 7/8/9 years ago when the Browns were tanking and the 76ers were also doing the Process
kind of died down after a while in the same way that 'ROFL, NEVER draft or pay an RB, they're totally interchangeable!' died down too.
all ends up in 'meh, it depends' IMO. draft picks no good if you continually pick the wrong players or can't develop them. but having more access to cheap, young, talented players can't ever be a bad thing
Outside of talent evaluation, cap reasons are huge for trade pick values in the NFL. Hitting on a draft pick who way exceeds their rookie contract value can be massive.
But there is so much variance, that a lot of times it’s like Gus said. Just pay the draft capital for the player you already know is good, especially when competing.
There are solid arguments for both sides of it, imo.
And when teams are swapping actual picks, especially during the draft, those values are generally more cut and dry evaluations.
With that said, the Colts better hope Dimes keeps performing.
it'll be interesting to see what the Colts do with Dimes. Franchise Tag is a minimum for 26, but do they sign him to a LT deal or wait longer?
tough one IMO and maybe the rest of the year will make it clearer one way or another, but paying for the outlier season is often not super smart and Dimes has enough $$ already that he can wait it out, knowing he'll most likely get paid a multi year top 10 type deal by someone else if he doesn't get a good deal with the Colts. Like, I can't imagine his agent letting him sign a Mayfield/Darnold type deal
Jones is in an odd spot now. There almost has to be an agreement in place prior to making this trade, otherwise his agent goes to the Colts and says "Give us what we want or else you don't have a 1st to try and replace him after this year" and yeah, you can tag him, but that's at best a 2 year solution and it's super expensive.
Tag estimated to be $46m in 26 and then it’ll be 120% in 27, so $55m ish
I reckon I’d be prepared to roll the dice and start 26 with him on the tag unless he’s lights out the second half of this year
(I bet the Giants wished they did too, albeit he was injured)
wondering would this be fair trade value?
two of danny dimes plus a free agent nickel back = one competant nfl qb randomly distributed from a gumball machine that's been sitting in direct sun for too long

I agree.
My nitpick with the Colts is are they really just a player away from being a Super Bowl contender? I don't think so but if they do then it's a great trade. Dimes has been very good this year but I just don't think he can compete against the Mahomes and Josh Allens. The Colts are very good but I don't think they have a good enough roster for Dimes to take them where they need to go.

I mean...they're second in DVOA right now and the first in the AFC by quite a margin. Sunday didn't look great vs the Steelers and I agree re Jones as a limiter but they are primed for the #1 seed if they can stay healthy and keep up this pace

I did have the Colts ranked a little high last week, but they are starting to look more and more like the 2023 Dolphins, who had a similar start 7-3.
Indy might be 7-2, but their wins have come against teams that are a combined 22-39. 5 of their wins are against teams that have won 3 or fewer games.
The schedule doesn't get any easier.

Well ya if they keep up this pace they'll be in good shape. You make it sound easy.
new thread title name suggestion/s?
Wow, Jets got a lot of picks today....all they had to give up were...the last guys they picked when they had a lot picks.
