What an absolutely disingenuous question framed to pretend to be bipartisan just asking questions

Hint: what do you think the Venn diagram for snap recipients who happen to be on the ACA looks like?

I'm not pretending to be "bipartisan".

I'm non-partisan.

Now .... if you wouldn't mind ..... please answer the question. Do you want health insurance and SNAP subsidies to expire or not ?

Not answering that stupid **** thanks

I want them to continue because like ive said before, we are heading into a world where more people will become dependant on govt services.

But that's why it can suck when you have a few overpowered autocratic elites drunk on too much power to dictate who gets fed. And I wouldn't come to the assumption that we need solidify down to one to rule over the entire world to solve the problem.

Do you think the snap benefits are a better or worse choice than the rationing lines youve posited?

It's rather fascinating to try and investigate what truly lurks inside of us humans.

It occurs to me that many people simply can not cope with the truth of their own motivations.

My hypothesis is that we are largely tribal zombies. We support our political tribe the way we support our favorite NFL team. That tribal affiliation transcends any philosophically logical foundation.

I'm reluctant to steer the conversation away from the simple contrast between those who want SNAP to continue and those who don't.

At this point, no one has been willing to state that they don't want SNAP to continue. Therefore, no one is willing to back Trump and the GOP in their decision to refuse the Dems offer to continue SNAP independent of the other reasons for a govt shutdown.

Trump said today that he was going to ignore the court order to continue snap payments until the dems agree to end ACA

It’s pretty much indefensible

The Democrats and Republicans are locked in a standoff over health insurance subsidies and SNAP benefits are effectively a hostage. So ... the relevant questions for you citizens is this. 1) Do you want the health insurance subsidies to expire ?2) Do you want the SNAP benefits to expire ?Let's please try to get away from tribal party affiliation and just be sincere as to your w

Nut: "Hey, guise, separate yourself from your tribe and think just about citizens, and let me know if you want SNAP to be ended or not."

Also Nut: "By the way, whichever you pick, I'm going to assign you to that tribe."

I’ll give you a longer answer

Let’s not play this bullshit you’re presenting for even a second. SNAP is being used as a hostage to make the Dems capitulate on ending ACA subsidies which will catapult insurance costs for the same people who are reliant on SNAP. Once the government reopens, if a deal isn’t made on ACA it won’t be done til at earliest the next dem presidency (lol)

To even ask ‘what would you prefer’ is a sickening question devoid of any intellectual debate. Funding Medicare, the ACA subsidies AND SNAP should be non-negotiable, especially considering what has been sacrificed has been sacrificed in the name of tax cuts and still somehow widening the deficit keeping on the table the possibility of further cuts to entitlements. The question of would you rather have SNAP or would you rather have nothing is the question of a greedy sociopath in the guise of ‘hey guys let’s look at the path of least resistance here’

You’re fooling nobody. Eat ****

That’s fair, but I think you should be able to understand how complicated real trade offs are. Would you support continuing SNAP if it meant cutting healthcare for 10 million people - and then ask them to just say yes or no?

Because in successful economies, it’s never as simple as we've got 1,000 gallons of milk for 5,000 people to feed shtick so who do we give it to? Because if we do **** it up, we will end up having the economy that you seem hell bent on creating. And then we actually will have your ration lines.

I'm puzzled at the vitriol here.

My preference is that both the SNAP benefits and ACA subsidies continue.

I'm trying to understand the philosophical foundations of those who support the current GOP position.

Long term .... I would rather that food and health care be guaranteed by the govt and that these necessities not be provided on a for-profit basis.

Good luck understanding that. It mostly comes down to being angry and breaking things, along with a desire to trigger the libs. Way under the surface is some philosophy about wanting the government to be smaller, but I don't think that's what's animating the desire to turn off SNAP or ACA.

by lozen

Nope it’s because the democrats keep voting to shut it down

I thought the republicans and trump could use some sort of “nuclear” option to force a vote and end the standoff, but that would require a democrat to be sworn in and the republicans don’t want that

Trump wants to do this like it had been done on Federal Judge appointees and supreme court nominees but its a line the GOP does not want to cross as they know when the Dems get in power they will use it as well .
Will we ever see a party get 60 seats I doubt it with all the gerry mandering going on

Gerrymandering to control the Senate?

Gerrymandering to control the Senate?

No at the House level. Doesn't each state get two seats at the senate level . I'm not sure you could gerry mander those

You're not doing anything to dispel the rumours that you don't bother to think for even 2 seconds about anything you post.

P.S. Gerrymander is a single word. Neither gerry or mander is a word by themselves so I have no idea how you could get it so wrong.

The report going around is that the official US Military stance for US Soldiers based in Germany is to go get food from German food banks during the government shut down

Are we tired of winning yet?

Yes and who blocked a bill to pay them while the shutdown is in place ?

You do at least understand that the PS was an aside and not the main reason for my post right? Like you realise that you contradicted yourself about gerrymandering seats in the senate in the space of two posts and seemingly didn't realise that you had made the mistake when it was pointed out to you?

The spelling of gerrymandering is just a weird quirk that annoyed me a little. Your inability to think is a much bigger issue.

Yes i do realize i contradicted myself that gerrymandering is not possible in the senate. No the problem is that I do not think what many of you on the left think

I'm being entirely serious when I say that while I don't agree with a lot of what you say, that is entirely irrelevant to my comments about your inability to think. I considered Luciom's opinions far more dangerous and hateful than yours but I could still tell and admit that he was a generally intelligent person despite disagreeing with him about almost literally everything. Your ability to think critically is the worst of any regular poster on this forum and it's not particularly close.

It's going back many years now and myabe it's my memory being poor but I don't remember you always being such a bad poster. I don't know in which direction the causation lies but it seems to me that there has been a strong correlation between your propensity to unquestioningly parrot right-wing propaganda and your lack of critical thinking in the posts where you are giving your own opinion.

Pretty sure lozen enjoys being a punching bag, which is why he goes over the top with ******ed chit. Wouldn't be surprised if he's on a right-wing forum and posting a bunch of left-wing extremism and taking licks over there.

Yeah, starting to think Lozen is just doing a bit, he can't be this dumb.

So the republicans could make it happen but are choosing not to
