2025 NFL Thread: First Round Picks or GTFO

Done!

by Dominic m

Wow, Jets got a lot of picks today....all they had to give up were...the last guys they picked when they had a lot picks.

And it's not like the team has ever had issues in the past with talent evaluation in the draft, so I don't know what could go wrong!

by feel wrath m

eh. I think it was me who posted the phrase you are saying is/was racist. Which of course, wasn't the intention and I would hope that as an Australian who isn't/wasn't aware of the origin of that or other phrases like that which I might also be using in a way that is offensive to some, I probably get more benefit of the doubt than others.Albeit, I also know that people accusi

oh yeah, I agree with you. I specifically said I assumed you were not a racist, and your use of the phrase was probably just cuz you didn't realize. and your reaction was basically "oh, I didn't know"

his reaction was "I don't want to hear about it when I'm saying something hurtful"

anyway, sorry everyone for the derail. just wanted to make sure feel wrath didn't think I was accusing him of anything... and also hopefully spread a little knowledge about the phrase "off the reservation" without upsetting anyone. tricky to do

Ok, Chief

the natives are getting a bit restless ITT

Ok, Chief

Not now chief, I’m in the ****in zone.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact the Rams would be undefeated w/ even a league avg kicking team.

They need to get that sht fixed. It's a mess.

On that front, the Rams have signed Harrison "The Thicker Kicker" Melvis. Shout out to the Stallions legend

Since the 2023 season, 12.8% of Love's passes have traveled at least 20 yards downfield -- the fourth-highest rate, behind only Will Levis, Anthony Richardson Sr. and Russell Wilson.

- - -

MIN didn't give up an explosive run (vs DET) -- the first time the Lions were held without an explosive carry since their 2023 wild-card playoff win over the Rams.

- - -

6% of McCarthy's attempts have been to the intermediate middle of the field this season, less than half of Darnold's rate (13.4%) in 2024.

- - -

CeeDee Lamb is close -- I think if he hadn't gotten hurt, he'd be shredding this season. Then again, he wouldn't have 4.58 yards per route run, which is what Smith-Ngjiba is at right now. It's the best eight-game start to a season for yards per route run in NFL history ... 2023 Tyreek Hill is second at 4.45 yards per route run, and the only player above 4.00 since routes run were charted in 2008.

- - -

minus-0.81: That's Daniel Jones' EPA per dropback when pressured over the past two weeks -- the second-worst mark among all quarterbacks. From Weeks 1-7, it was 0.15 -- the best.

The game against the Steelers does not erase Jones' excellent play to begin the season, but it serves as a reminder of what we've learned about quarterbacks like Goff, Darnold and Jalen Hurts in recent years.

On supercharged offenses with quality running games, elite skill position teammates and excellent scheming, the weak point is often the quarterback -- even when that quarterback's stats look sterling. If and when the Colts' offense breaks this season, expect the breaking point to be Jones ... until he proves otherwise.

That was Aubrey's first miss from 60-plus yards this season. (He had hit from 61 and 64 yards previously.) It was not just his first career miss from 60-plus yards in AT&T Stadium -- it was his first miss from 50-plus in AT&T Stadium. He was 18-of-18 before that kick.

The Cardinals Have played 14 games on Monday night. They are 4-10 all time. All 4 wins are against the Cowboys.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has never lost at AT&T Stadium, going 8-0. He won three straight state championships (2012-14) with Allen High School, finishing 5-0 at AT&T Stadium, where he also won a Big 12 championship with Oklahoma in 2018 and a pair of NFL games with the Cardinals.

Kyler Murray has a perfect 9-0 record at AT&T Stadium across his high school, college, and NFL careers. This includes five high school wins, one Big 12 Championship win with Oklahoma, and two NFL victories with the Arizona Cardinals.
High School: 5-0, winning multiple state championships
College: 1-0, winning the Big 12 Championship with Oklahoma
NFL: 2-0, both wins with the Cardinals against the Dallas Cowboys

The extra win in the second part of that quote was when he was a backup at Texas A&M when they defeated Arkansas in 2015 with a final score of 28-21 in overtime. Even though he was a backup, he was on the team and didn't lose.

Sounds to me like the Cowboys need to trade Dak for Kyler .

Dak is 1-19 when behind by 10 or more points at halftime. The only win was in 2020 when they trailed the Falcons 29-10 at halftime and came back to win 40-39.

Cowboys are the 1st team in NFL history to average 30+ points thru their 1st 8 games and still be out scored by their opponent.

Cowboys are now 2-26-1 in their last 29 games against the Cardinals, Broncos and Packers.

a bit of Barnwell's reaction to the Sauce deal:

It's unclear where Indy's picks will land, but let's use FPI's projection of the 26th pick in 2026 and treat the 2027 selection as the 16th pick, since it could land anywhere. Using Ben Baldwin's non-quarterback draft chart, that's another $19.1 million per year in surplus value over the next four years. Two and a half years of Mitchell should take that north of $20 million per season.

In other words, with the value of the picks needed to acquire Gardner built into the mix, the Colts are really paying more than $46 million per year to Gardner as part of this deal. That's about what the Packers are paying Parsons (without the surplus value for his deal attached) and more than any other non-quarterback in football. The top of the cornerback market will go up in the years to come, but that surplus value is what makes these deals so difficult to land as successes. Anything short of perennial All-Pro production from a player like Gardner makes this a net negative.

More than anything, what this does is essentially tie the Colts to Jones, whose 2025 performance is completely out of line with what he has done so far as a pro. Their path toward adding a young QB or players around Jones in 2026 and 2027 are compromised by this trade, which takes away their most valuable draft assets. If the Colts get this version of Jones over the next few years, that's not a problem. If Jones gets hurt or falls back to Earth, of course, the Colts will be hamstrung in their ability to find a long-term replacement.

also of note, Barnwell pointed out that IND could've acquired ~ a 4th round pick if they moved Mitchell at the deadline. not sure why Ballard included Mitchell in the deal (it's not as if that would've been a deal breaker)

Weird to use Parsons as the example but not include the surplus value, by his logic the Packers are paying Parsons something like $67 million a year. Just compare it to Hutchinson

People that think like Barnwell are the same people that wind up at the end of an auction draft with their full $200 and saying "Well akshully CMC's ADP was $61 and you paid $64, what a massive overpay!!"

Yeah...but they have CMC and you have cap space.

Even if you trust his valuations uncritically, Sauce was an All-pro his first and second year. It feels like if you have to pay $1.20 on the dollar to get that guy when you're leading the AFC and Mahomes is on his knees, you do it.

he mentioned he didn't include Parsons surplus value

yes ... not by *his* logic but by the reality of FO 101 GB is paying Parsons something in the neighborhood of mid $60mm a year. the two 1st round picks do exist in the real world and their value isn't ephemeral

when comparing a deal for an ELITE edge to a similar deal (similar in draft capital given up) for a very good/borderline ELITE CB we should note that ELITE edge play has a bigger impact on a game than ELITE CB play

also, we need to concede that ELITE edge play is more reliable/predictable year-to-year than ELITE CB play

the reality for IND is that with this deal they have hitched their wagon to danny dimes. is that a prudent move? i certainly don't think so

what we do know is that danny dimes turned into a pumpkin for the first time in a clots uniform in his first game vs a competitive team in inclement weather. there are plenty more of inclement weather games vs competitive teams on the horizon

Wow! Marshawn Kneeland, the Cowboy who scored their first TD on Monday after the blocked punt, is dead at 24.

Sad.

jesus....horrible. Apparent suicide. Always remember we have no idea what someone else is going through.

Very sad indeed.

We also need less of a stigma with mental health issues, so more people can feel comfortable reaching out for help.

more on IND

i don't blame the franchise for going for it this season. they have a reasonable chance at winning the AFC

and for an organization that has one playoff win over the past ten seasons that ain't nothing

the leadership probably realizes it's going to take the #1 seed to get there, so being uber-aggressive at the trade deadline isn't that criminal

Thought that too. Seems disingenuous

That’s terribly sad

Nobody could have predicted this. Nobody!

That was the Free Space on the BINGO cards.

He's a lock to have a tragic ending. His wealth, fame, and athleticism have been the ultimate enablers.

Mr. Big Charges

Pac-Man Jones was the one that always seemed destined for a long stay in the Big House but…while he’s stayed consistent with his arrests, he’s never seemingly graduated to felonies

Aqib Talib too. I remember reading that he as an instigator in the incident that eventually saw his brother murdering someone but he’s managed to stay on the outside and (I think?) still broadcasting?
