u can tell from table demeaners the way they handle betting n observing upcards etc.

Inspired in part by your thread, I played my first ever session of Big O, 4-8 limit kill. Two rack pots common. Folds post flop uncommon. Three quarters common. Lost 2 racks but thought I played fine. Of course self reflection is a poor attribute of losing rec players such as myself.

How tight do you feel a starting hand should be at a casino low stakes rec level (if there were pros i didn't spot them that session; plus the rake is unbeatable at these stakes, a big blind per flop basically).

For example: Do i only play AA or KK at least single suited? Are middle card wraps good enough? Is A2 playable on its own or does it need protection with 3456? Or play a high vpip and fold most flops? Thanks!

At $4/$8 O8 with half kill you can play wider ranges because the wider range of a competent player is still heaps ahead of the range of most of the people playing 4/8. Now in BigO, just be slightly more careful w other people also having A2.

I wouldn't play AA or KK if you dont have good low cards.
You cannot play middling cards, period - because you are either drawing for half or drawing for the bottom end of straights.
A2 is nearly always playable on its own because other side cards can make the highs.

ABC poker is the way to go, it's not hard. Just be disciplined.

I have A LOT OF hours of 4/8 limit O8 with half kill under my belt because I used to stay overnight at capitol casino after nlh and plo broke and I'd chill at 4/8 and wait for free morning breakfast. I think I was average minus $1.1/hr - obv I have it logged somewhere.

Now if you want to actually make some money, 8/16 is the way to go. Sacramento had such such great games. I'm sure they are still awesome now. It's action packed both in 4 n 5 card O8. Just play standard O8 strategy in a full ring game - stick to A2, A34. I have shifted to playing wider ranges esp at higher stakes where you need to actually play poker - but at low stakes, it's just playing the math, imo.

Thida Lin shared her result with me regarding her orleans 8/16 (idk the exact kill format) O8. Smidge over $20k a year and that's as expected. It's all about putting in enough hours and get a good idea of how you fare. But honestly, don't think anyone beating $4/8 w rake.
