Ongoing VP TR, PART 2!
Hi all, apparently my previous thread may have gotten so long that it's causing issues for the website. So, here is a ne
The problem with that is that as a fellow VP degen, it just doesnβt work. I started off during my first trip playing single line TDB, then explored all the different variations all the way to UX TDB 10 line. Fast forward almost 10 years of TRs, I would literally puke then play anything but UX, it gets so incredibly boring. Also in theory you canβt really drop down low enough, ev
Handpays or not, they still keep track of all your wins and losses for your 1099.
Been on a pretty badass run at the local since I've been back. Initially I was only going to go once and get some entries for a big giveaway they were having (spoiler- didn't get anything), but as I kept winning, I kept going back... on a near 100k upswing including the Vegas trip. These are all over 4-5 sessions.
Let's start with dealt premium quads!

Amazing draw here.
Dealt quads again!

And another amazing draw.
Dealt premiums, WITH a kicker!

Dealt quads, again!

Dealt premiums, AGAIN!

The ONLY downside to this is that I never got dealt premiums twice in the same day. Obv I step up and play bigger when I get a big hit, and if the machine had hit me again any of the times I played bigger... we're talking exponential wins.
Damn, those are some nice hits!
11/6-11/9 TR
Backstory- as a reminder, I'm here for a great reason- I got an invite to a poker tournament hosted at the Wynn, as a COMP. Meaning, the field will be small, and I get to play a game I played semi-professionally for decades, against a bunch of casino donks who got their entry bc they're gamblers (which I am now as well obv). First prize is likely 150k, everyone at the final table gets paid, and they're expecting 60 people. Technically it's not a freeroll bc of rebuys and addons (more on that later), but there is still such a massive overlay and I gotta figure this is most +EV opportunity I will ever have as a now former poker player.
D was told there'd be no invite for him, and then last minute he got an invite as well! So that's amazing for 2 reasons- he also played poker at a high level in the past (his claim to fame- coming in third to Chris Moneymaker at the final table of the satellite that propelled Moneymaker to his main event win in 2003. Moneymaker got his money in bad and won, obv. In a way, we all have D to thank, a bit, for helping spawn the poker boom). So now I get to go with D rather than solo which should be good for my bankroll, AND we've got two shots at this thing! Additionally, hopefully D getting a last minute invite implies there won't be as many people!
I'm trying to manage expectations. It's still going to be a luckbox event. Trying, trying, trying... but I can already see D and myself playing heads up for blood, KNOWING we're just playing for the title and money will be chopped. I'm so excited!
Bankroll- 50k, 25k front money (it was a requirement to be able to participate). Whatever, money is money.
Agenda-
Thurs- I get in solo. D doesn't get in until Friday, partly bc he was always going to spend Sun-Thurs here with his wife for a conference! So he's trying to conserve funds and if we don't bink this thing he could really hurt himself. I'm eating at SW and trying to survive.
Fri- D gets in, warm up tournament after registration. Bink warmup tournament.
Sat- Main tourney, dinner at Casa Playa
Sun- head home, roll around in money.
Here we go!
Day 1
SD airport is smooth and we're on our way. Should get in around noon.

Coming into LV the "wrong" way = no view of the strip.

Never gets old.

Trying to take more pics this trip.

All the F1 stuff is up. They're basically ready for the event.
Surprise surprise, room is not ready. I'm ok with it, but have historically run so badly waiting for my room in past instances. I've gotten stuck more than 10k more times than I can remember... such an awful way to start a trip. So with that in mind, I take my time, leave my bag at the bell desk and finally head over to hi limit.

Vegas Matt is here. I've commented before how much I despise the whole influencer thing but from a few videos of his that I've seen he doesn't seem like the worst douchebag. He's fairly sedate here, probably bc he didn't hit anything. Shocking, influencers don't record or comment when they lose. LOL
I decide to play 25 lines to start, but I'll play slowly. Hopefully start off with a bang?

Very first hand. A good sign?

About to busto my first 1k and hit this! On the board.

Great draw here, from a pair.
I step down to 20 lines at some point to try and conserve funds.

Dealt quads soon after!
I'll take it.
Back to 25 lines!

Back to 20 lines. Definitely holding my own. Room is not ready and it's been hrs. Whatever, I'll keep it going as long as I can!

Back to 25 lines... just in time for dealt quads number 2!
!!!!!!!! What a magical start.
Result and rest of Day 1 coming soon...
Great, but can't believe you are leaving us hanging! π
Did not figure this would turn into an actual poker thread! Do any studying in the run up or just figuring your previous playing vs. casino donks is an easy winner?
Haha, I'm actually at work and knew I wouldn't be able to make a long post. That was a good natural stopping point.

No true studying. Talked meta-strategy/sought opinions on here and with a few people including D. Mostly the latter, I cannot imagine a world in which I'm not automatically the best player against that whole field. Sneak preview- it was true. My lord the play was atrocious. One example (which came up multiple times)- the blinds would be 500/1000 or whatever and they'd limp in with 5k behind, get raised, and call in WITH trash. I think I could have talked about fold equity/position etc out in the open with very few people even having a clue I was talking about poker.
wtf leon!

Wow this sounds like a dream spot. I hope you and D did well and didn't get bad beats put on you. Looking forward to reading more!
The bad thing about these freeroll poker tournaments to "normal" gamblers, is the poker structure is beyond terrible. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone was in (or should be) in push/fold mode in an hour.
C'MON MAN!!!!!
seeing as our boy is leaving us with blue balls, I'm just checking the math. If we get no kickers on the redraw then we win 10k, right? 25x400
and then for every kicker we get 2k minus the 400, so an additional 1600
we have approx 21% of hitting a kicker (I think?) (10/48) so the probability is that we hit between 4 and 5?
so if we hit another 4, we'll collect 16.4k total but are below expectation and if we hit another 5 then we'll collect 18k total and be above expectation?

I believe heβs 12/47 to hit a kicker on each and so expectation is roughly 6.x kickers. Otherwise this is all correct, 0/25 on kickers is 10k and each addβl kicker is worth 1600. I think expectation is around 20k.

Yes, definitely 12, canβt believe I wrote 10. 47 and not 48 because you canβt draw the J again?
Day 1, part 2
Drawing at premium quads here... such a good start, but as always, need a good draw.
Result-
NINE KICKERS! So far above expectation!
Such a dream start. I still don't have my room yet and I'm up almost 30k. I have to play bigger now, but I'll watch myself and step back at the first hint of trouble.

Amazing. Second 5 digit hit of the trip. Time to play bigger!

Man. "dealt" premium quads on the redeal.

Pretty crazy pull here.

When dealt straights yield a hand pay LOL.

So many premium draws and I'm pulling so, so well overall.

Alas, all good things must come to an end. As can be seen, at my height I was playing 70 lines, so 350$ a push. I got up to 70k credits in the machine, gave back 20k rather fast, despite stepping down... time to go to my room. Still, such a monster opening. Up 50k at the outset, with everything to play for in the tournament. SO F'ing awesome.
Rest of Day 1 coming soon...
Thanks for the exciting, awesome update leon. It seems like at some point in there the expectations would have risen so high as to lament hitting only a few hands above expectation rather than being dealt a unicorn. I was hoping for a switch to UX or spin for a true lightning bolt, but the trip isn't over yet. Well, it ain't over until after the report in my book.

as noted it's out of 47
(12/47 * $2000 + 35/47 * $400) * 25 ~ $20,213
1/4 is close enough for a mental estimate
(1/4 * $2000 + 3/4 * $400) = $800/hand
leon will have to start playing 47 lines every pull to make it easy to track single card draw expectations.
I can't remember if this has ever been discussed. When playing multi-line, the deal is the same across all lines, right?
In other words, you only need to select the cards to draw once, but each line is drawn as if a complete deck is available for it, right?
Nice little run, leon! Hope the poker tournament produces as good of stories.

Yes. A complete deck less the held & discarded cards from the deal are available independently on the draw for each hand.
Awesome heater!
I'm dating myself a bit, but I keep reading we need to play bigger as we need more points! (If you're under 40 some context: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZ83nnOD...)
the most fun part of that update from Leon was seeing the cash amount in the bottom right hand corner constantly rising
