Poker Players who went insane and/or succumbed to serious drug issues
They all seem to share a high IQ, sometimes well-educated, sometimes not
Stu Unger: Drug addiction,
Vanessa Selbst: Curre
On the original topic:
Tom Dwan x 10
Definitely a smart guy, for sure on all kinds of drugs, and in over his head on a range of topics with regards to life in general
I really hope he gets help and turns it around, otherwise he’s in serious danger of ending like Matt M.
Man and to think I'm one flash of lightning moment away from being in such an esteemed group
Nah, I've been a part of both cohorts.Gambling is uniquely problematic and whether it's the chicken or the egg, the chicken makes things worse. I'm glad I don't need to prey off others in poker anymore.. Years ago I played with someone who couldn't afford the table stakes, I won several pots against them and he then committed suicide that night. The correlation is real and man
.....he types on a niche poker message board midday on a wednesday lmao
I hate people not taking own responsibility and blaming everything instead of looking harshly at themselves
But of course for many people drugs & alcohol arent exactly choices but an addiction
If you are so unfamiliar with addiction count yourself an extremely lucky human being
When my kids were about 10 I made them watch numerous episodes of Intervention
They hated it, but I felt I needed to plant that seed early,
3 of my 4 grandparents were bad alcoholics and if there is indeed a genetic component, they will have it
My parents warned me of this when I went to college and luckily so far, no addictions
That show teaches you that as society we tend to focus on the addict
and overlook how the whole family is destroyed by their loved one's addiction
Addiction is ugly and evil.
That Chad kid was a really strong player I remember him back in the day. He was such a strong player because he played with no fear and had strong reads. Addiction is tough for people sadly and when you are in that stage the drug takes over sadly.
lilholdem954 was a brilliant player the likes of stu ungar. unbelievably ferocious.
King Kalthor
didnt prahlad go off his rails for a bit
Depends on whether your taste in music is any good
This thread feels sooo 2009
mrwong.
Dwan needs to pay his debts already. Why is everyone kissing this guys butt? No excuses already he needs to pay Jungleman and whoever else he owes. A gambler who doesn't pay his debts has no integrity, which through all these years on this forum I have come to realize that poker players are terrible human beings.
Does Dwan owe you any money ?
Does Dwan owe anyone you know any money ?
Are Dwan's debts based on gambling losses, and owed to someone who let him play of credit ?
Typically, a poker operator collects rake and it responsible for backing chips it allows to be placed into play.
If someone decides to play another player heads up, with no operator as an intermediary, the risk of credit default lies with the person who extended credit
I also think any poker operation, ranging from the WSOP to PokerStars to TeddyKGB, should guarantee that chips in play may be cashed out when the gaming is over.,
dopamine is gods cocaine sometimes one exhausts gods gift as he loves us more then general mankind he has created situations where we earn our dopamine not like
joe cubicle worker eye balling pam anderson at work with a dinger in his polyester work dress pants ,we are more evolved and put forth the effort to earn the cascade of pleasure in our brain.
Was it drugs or David?
You hear people say things about Stu Ungar, how he couldn't play cash, because tournament players have to fold... but he was the best gin rummy player in the history of gin rummy. That right there means, he is the most intelligent person ever to play poker. He's the einstein of poker. He died in a shitty hotel with no one.
Stefanie Ungar trying to help.

LOL Mikki Mase saying Stu’s death was “so sudden”. Mikki Mase & The Complications sounds like an old Northern Soul band.
