Was either going to submit St Elmo's Fire theme song by John Parr or the Night Fox laser dance song from Ocean's Twelve for this one

The Shins from Garden State is probably something that would have 1st place 20 years ago but been close to last today.

In 6th place scoring 4 points:

Iconic. One of the most recognizable drum intros of all-time. You probably know what it is before clicking the spoiler.

In 5th place scoring 5 points:

Submitting this drummer should be cheating, but I didn’t exclude them so here we are. It probably did knock it down a place or two tho. One of the drummers who I listened to for hours a day when I was learning and easily one of the GOATs. Not my favorite song of theirs, but the drumming is musically perfect.

In 4th place scoring 6 points:

Good song, original is way better than the cover that was alternatively submitted. Cover would’ve been last place.

In 7th place scoring 3 point:

Lots of talent for sure. Busyness that matches the rest. Not a very interesting song. One of those bands I’ve always wanted to be into more than I am.

In 3rd place scoring 8 points:

This song probably got a lot of kids into drumming. What probably sounded to olds as loud banging is actually an extremely nuanced and musical chart. The drummer is now known for way more than being a drummer, but even they still describe themselves first and foremost as a drummer, for good reason.

In 8th place scoring 2 points:

This drummer is a legend, obv. I love how many of the rock greats are jazz drummers at heart, and you can tell in their compositions (the section starting at 2:45 shines). Unfortunately, this song is one big drum solo. I don’t really like drum solos. A live version was submitted, which also would’ve gotten 8th, but I didn’t want to subject others to 12 minutes of this.

This is sick. I’ve always wished I was better at hand drumming. Great submission.

In 9th place scoring 1 point:

Doesn’t really have drumming and what is there doesn’t do it for me.

In 1st place scoring 12 points:

Example of great drum track. Complements the song perfectly. A little flash where appropriate. The build and lead in to the moment at 2:30 is really good stuff. Never heard of this group, thanks for the introduction.

Idk drumming terminology but it's just some flams on a backbeat is it not.

People younger than me die of natural causes. Also my Amazon account is from 1999.

The intro is flams on the down beats with kick drum 16th note upbeats, if that’s what you’re asking.
