1/3 Grinding and Bankroll
Hi all,
First post in this specific forum. Normally post in NL Strategy. Hoping for some feedback about bankroll manageme
Dude, just one question, is there much difference between PLO4, PLO5, and PLO6, or if you study and get good at one, will you automatically be good at all three?

If you’re good at one you should be able to make the necessary adjustments to be good at the others. Poker is poker. The same fundamentals transfer across all variants, for some faster than others however.
Transitioning from one plo variant to another is like learning Italian after learning Spanish. They are both Romance languages with the same alphabet.
Mixed games on the other hand … like learning Chinese in my experience.
Reg at 5/10 the other night said poker wasn’t fulfilling. No contribution to society. Taking money from other people. I said I agreed. But I added that become good at poker could be fulfilling for individual players. Also poker is very meritocratic. The better you get the more money you usually make. Unlike many other jobs.
That’s probably why I get frustrated at the mix when I lose because I play for that individual fulfillment and I have not gotten that out of the mix yet.
Ran fine last night again, gambled a little with an action player one hand with JJ854ds and it didn’t work out versus his crappy QQ. Played a little 5/10 to mix things up towards the end but nothing really happened. Now that I’ve been playing the mix it’s harder to play just one game all session. Have court early today but no hearings. Might have made $750 or so yesterday.
Had a wild dream I was flying over this tall bramble by the shore on a mission and intercepted a small flying machine and covered it up and then got to a convenience store to take a break. It was raining hard and there were fireworks. Weird!

I agree on some level, but I do think you need to study all three. Hand selection, the boards you continue on, and how you continue (call, raise, fold) are different from game to game, so being good at PLO4 will not automatically make you "good" at PLO5/6.
Ran well again, top set held against mid set + fd at plo and AKs > QQ all in pre at 2/5. KK won in 3! pot at low spr on J87ss at 5/10 too. Made around $3k on the day.
Lost a little at 20/40 mix, 2357 made an 8 early on but got outdrawn in triple draw, but made the surprising realization that over my 500 hours of lifetime play in the smaller mixed games I am actually up $11, 000 between 10/20 - 30/60, making around half a big bet per hour. I see my monthly results getting progressively better so I think I’m improving too.
Work was fine today, got ready for interviews and worked on an appeal. Consulted with my financial advisor who said I’m looking good and didn’t need to change much. He asked me when I wanted to retire and I said I’d keep the job as long as I was getting something out of it and I’d probably be playing poker indefinitely.
Ran ok yesterday, lost dsAA to another dsAA all in pre even though I flopped 2p nfd he flopped just a wrap. Won it back with another AA and KQJ97ds on T73 my fds. Ended up winning $1, 500 or so on the session.
I played hold em (bad game, left), plo (good game, left to get dinner with a friend at the steakhouse), limit hold em (good game, played because there was a seat open when I got back from dinner until they called me for the game I wanted to play). The 5/T was extremely nitty so I left for plo. Three table changes! Omg!
I love when you people post here it really makes me laugh. Keep up the good work.
They are cute, aren't they? Nothing better to do than try to knock you because they are jealous! LOL. Get a life, HeinekenJoe and TheFranz. Go play some poker and try not to lose all your monies.
Ran well tonight after work (super busy day for a Friday!!), won at plo, hold 'em, and the 25/50 mix. It is really awesome to be able to sit in any game and make money, it keeps things interesting for me. Played whatever had a seat open until my seat opened up in a bigger/more interesting game. I think I made $2k or so. Already nearly a $10,000 month. At this rate I might have another $60,000 month like I did last year. That would be an awesome xmas gift!
As someone that used to live in the dc area and played a lot at national harbor I really think it is such a unique area for poker because of how transient the player pool is specifically the recreationals. A lot of ppl just coming to the DMV for 5 years or less making very high salaries and leaving.
Curious if you have put in volume in any other areas in the states that you have found even remotely as good as the DMV?
For a pro it might not be the best considering the high cost of living but just on avg the quality of games night in and night out have to be the best imo.
Nah these games are better than the rest in my experience. I’ve played in AC Vegas Florida and Boston. Not Cali and Texas though and I’ve heard decent things about LA.
Got good sleep and woke up relatively early. Sipping on pumpkin lattes, almond milk, and basking in a sunny window. I was in a really good mood last night at the mix felt really nice to banter with the crew.
you might be the greatest lgbtqi cash player of all time. is Ryan Laplante your role model? hes gay and won a wsop bracelet.
Do you get some hate at the tables from people who don't like lgbtq+ people? if you get hate do you tell them to bring it and try and organise a boxing match between both of you perhaps with side bets been made on the match?
I don’t know who Ryan Laplante is. Ive had occasional slurs thrown at me. I just put them in their place and take the chips.
Last night was slow, didn’t get much going, got 22 in against a flush draw QJdd on 23Tdd and we chopped. Played stand up game, raised QJo bvb and AJTAA runout called down and was good. He checked river and some said I could fold if he went all in. I said “if he went all in I would ask ‘can I raise that bet?’” Got my AA cracked on KJ2Q3 and QJ lost to a rivered flush on AT3Kss4s river. I even had the Js blocker to value bet river more often.
Played 25/50/100(200) but was getting tired and called in a night after an hour after some uneventful pots left me about even. Lost over a grand on the night. Probably lost the minimum given how I played making good folds when beat, so I’ll consider it a win.
In other news, management banned the straddle at 5/10 and replaced it with a big blind $10 ante to appease some 2/5 players who wanted to play 5/10 but felt like they couldn’t afford to and were supposedly being bullied into straddling. I never witnessed any bullying and generally whenever anyone didn’t want to straddle we just turned it off or sometimes played 10/25. Last night most of the 5/10 players just played 10/25 and the 2/5 players played the new 5/10 ante game and things went fine.
I do think it’s an extreme measure to ban the straddle in only one game spread in the entire poker room. Maybe instead spread a smaller 5/5/10 game with a $1, 500 cap or something. This upset a lot of people who enjoyed playing with the straddle, which generated action and made the game bigger for those who enjoyed playing bigger games.
Read medical records all weekend to prepare for a long hearing today, hope I get a fair judge but ready for anything. I’ve come to not be as results oriented with these hearings as a lot of the judges are just really conservative and don’t like to let our clients out of the hospital.
I played a little last night and won $1, 200 A8764 beat AA in a bloated pot flopped mid pair and wrap and outdrawing two pair nfd. Freerolled sttaight v sttaight and got there too, all the hungry regs transferred to our game and slowly it got worse and worse and I decided to quit and get a decent nights sleep.
Woke up around 6am and tossed and turned for a while then finally got back to sleep. Pounding lattes now to be as alert as possible for court.
I'm sure I'm unaware of some sort of dynamic in play here, but why does criticism of your actions amuse you? From an outside observer, it reads like regs at the casino you're a reg in are rubbed the wrong way by the way you conduct yourself. That seems to track with how often you get into arguments at the table. At some point would you consider introspection on why all these people dislike you or am I reading this wrong and it's just random trolls who have never played with you trying to wind you up?

Doesn’t make a difference to me…funny all the same, no matter who is doing the trolling. Even funnier if it’s really regs from my casino.
Hearing was dreadful, thought it was unfair and a lot of my weekend work was for nothing.
Sipping pumpkin lattes, taking recs to #Town , fighting the good fight in the legal streets your a BEAST

Dumbo is a high rolling boss who always wants to play bigger and talks **** to the lowly 2/5 players who “can’t afford to” but he always buys in short at the bigger games (less then a max 2/5 buy in lol), plays like a nit and jump tables as soon as he doubles up so he can rathole
Obviously anyone who doesn’t like him is just jelly
I have a hearing hangover today. The judge ruled very biasedly in favor of the hospital’s objections and against mine and did not let me ask a lot of questions I had prepared on cross examination. She let evidence in from May the hospital wanted I but did not let me ask about evidence from July as she thought it was too remote in time…how inconsistent and double standard can you get! The judge also let the other attorney do speaking objections but called me out when I did.
I told the judge to her face I didn’t think my client was getting a fair hearing and called out the entire proceeding. It was an embarrassment of due process. What a disappointment! Six months of records review and I couldn’t even ask a lot of my questions.
Ran ok at poker made over a grand between plo and 10/25. Very disappointed in the legal system though.
