Why was the thread debating the merits of Generalissimo Franco locked?

Once uninformed people start throwing around the "fascist" word like its punctuation, that's usually a wrap for the thread.

Chevy Chase is reporting that Generalissimo Franco is still dead.

Although it was supposed to be an off-topic thread of great interest to all TPT users, the feeders to try to prompt debate about the rights and wrongs of the Spanish Inquisition were obvious.

It should go without saying, however, that this was overstepping the mark.
