In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there a
i was assuming it'd be more of the same - total buffoon at the helm with an administration that pretty much cheney'd their way to what would be a typical boiler plate republican platform
I really, really, really don't know why you expected the bolded.
The only governor on Trump's behavior during his first term was the prospect of another election. What you saw in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 election was how Trump behaves when he believes that he will never face another public election. (I don't think Trump thought 2024 would be possible in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 election.)
It was also apparent long before before the 2024 election that Trump would never again make the mistake of surrounding himself with people like Bob Barr, Rex Tillerson, Mathis, McMaster, Kelly -- that is, people who were not entirely beholden to him and who at least had personal reputations to protect, regardless of whether you thought they were good or awful on policy. In other words, it was obvious that Trump was going to prioritize fealty over competence during his second administration to an even greater degree than he did during his first administration. Adults are decidely not welcome in the circus that is the second administration.
So you agree that your assessment of Harris as a worse candidate than Trump is not remotely reasonable. Splendid.
Its not that Harris is a worse candidate than Trump its the Harris was a worse candidate than anyone else the Democrats could have chosen . Lets not forget she never made it to the first vote of the 2020 primary and was a DEI hire at VP

None of that is relevant. Itβs just noise.
Harris is still orders of magnitude better than Trump, regardless of how she was selected.
If by “can a man get pregnant” he means “can a biological male get pregnant” the answer is obviously no, but if she interprets that to mean “can someone who is gendered as a man get pregnant” then the answer is obviously yes.
The answer is obviously 'not currently'. Or 'biological males' isn't some fixed attribute of a person.
I'm still looking forward to the day when the anti T crowd are insisting that people who are clearly now men in every significant respect must use women toilets because they are 'biological' women. Although I suspect there claims about 'biological' will transition very quickly.

For better or worse, Kamala ended up as the 2024 nominee soley because of Biden. By the time Biden stepped down, the Democrats had no practical alternative other than to hope for the best with Kamala.

It's almost like political reality develops over decades and isn't simply determined by what we just did. It's never going to go well when all we do is argue for trying to manage the neglected mess while piling up more and more crap for the next few decades to suffer.
It isn't soley because of biden. That situation was a circumstantial part of the long running democratic neglect.

JFC, chez. You know what I mean. I mean that Biden left the party with no choice in the moment. The observation that the last 200 years of history had some impact on who the Democratic party's nominee was in 2024 is trivial. The last 200 years also probably had some impact on what I ate for breakfast this morning.
It's a day ending in Y so of course we have to endure df conservatives misusing "DEI hire."

I dont think this is true. I would say when Kamala announced she was running there was no alternative. I remember before this happened serious people were having discussions about who should take his place as the candidate, and no one thought it was forgone it had to be her.

this would be true if his dementia was sudden and unexpected... not something that was very obvious to everyone who had contact with him since at least 2022 and by 2023 there was an active campaign to shield him and limit contact with outsiders just to ensure the general public never found out
the "i guess we have no choice but to roll with kamala" is a joke under that light

Of course it didn't have to be her if she decided not to run. That's self-evident. No one can make a person run for president.

This was a strong argument in the Trans thread when it existed. Every aspect of focus is on Men who become Women, and if you bring this up, they just ignore you or say "all trans people must use mens bathrooms"

Knowing that a sitting president is diminished and being able to force that same president not to run for reelection are two very different things. That said, I am highly cynical about some of the people in Biden's inner circle during this time. In many cases, their personal interests were served by Biden remaining in office, and I strongly suspect that those personal interests caused them to give Biden bad advice about whether he should run for reelection.

No offense but JFC yourself
Belittling the point is typical but misses everything. Too late to change the past but the political importance of what is done decades before to the present really matters because it's still true. It's nearly always too late to do anything about the present except manage the mess while crying about whatever the situation is at the time.

you're missing the big picture
at some point we need to put some adults in the room and say "hey maybe we should flex our party muscles and not allow a senile man or a crazy one who threatens our allies to be president"
everyone who was anyone in the whitehouse or democratic party knew biden was senile
they should have invoked the 25th and installed kamala - instead they were worried about optics
at the very least, they could have hedged and said "mr president if you decide to run again we're going to surround you with journalists every day instead of hiding you as we'd been doing and the entire world will know you are suffering from dementia" and we will primary you
or... maybe... just maybe they could have had a plan of action with someone in mind to step in if things got as bad as they did instead of having the "omg i guess we will just roll with kamala"
neither party has a mandate to govern anymore - they've both shown themselves to be completely corrupt and evil - prioritizing their own vanity and power than helping the country

ding ding ding
They have a mandate because people keep voting for them. That's democracy.

Meh. Except in very rare cases I think moralizing that someone is "evil" is just bad faith emotional manipulation, suited for bad faith actors like Victor.
Power in American politics has tend to shift over time; and most political scientists argue due to extreme political polarization and social media driven populism we are generally going through a period of excess executive over-reach and legislative impotence.
But I think saying it is because legislators are "evil and corrupt" is lazy moralizing.

bolded was Russian propaganda. Biden was fine until the night before the debate.
