If you lived in Minneapolis, and an ICE agent demand ID.....
......would you comply. (You have broken no law. You're just walking into the grocery store.)
Why or Why not?
for the USA, google tells me there are around 400 lightning strikes in a year resulting in 20-40 fatalities. and there are over 1k police shooting deaths alone the last few years. so thats not even counting the people who survive. furthermore, last year there were between 2700 and 3100 police involved deaths recorded depending on the source. that includes the many traffic d
well they did say specifically shot in the face! How many of those 3000 police involved shootings were during traffic stops directly to the face? There's a lot of places on the body you can get shot ! I believe cops are trained to shot at vital organs not the face could be wrong.
edit I found the number 600 killed in traffic stops seems accurate i bet most of them didn't comply either! If you follow their instructions its literally zero percent. They all wear bodycams now they won't get away with that
again in 39 of the 50 states peoples drivers license proves citizenship so I guess your not very edumicated. The easiest way to combat illegal immigration is to treat them like second class citizens don't allow them to rent an apartment or a license they might go back home pretty soon. Thats why ice needs to go into Minnesota in the first place

One is not required to drive in the USA, nor is one required to get a drivers license.
You obviously know nothing about America, so stfu about it. Wallow in your shithole country, bootlicker.
So how do I prove my identification to an ICE agent as I walk legally down the street minding my own business? [That’s rhetorical; don’t answer. You’re too stupid.]
You see, it used to be in America one could do that. But then Trump and his deplorables took over, and they’re turning America into a shithole, like wherever you’re from.
Again I never said they are required to drive.... LMAO Canada is the same as the states my dude the roads are horrible for public transportation every single person owns a car who's not a loser degenerate. I hate trump so im not sure who im bootlicking. I have liberal and right wing beliefs I'm not on a sports team. There's 28 million registered vehicles in Canada with about 29 million adults
You clearly don't know alot about America if you couldn't deduct that most people do infact carry around id that proves they are us citizens (which is probably why ice is asking for them!)
Nice look by anti ICE protestors storming a church during Sunday worship

I live here you mental ******. I have a full understanding of American laws, norms and culture. Youβre a colossal ignoramus. Stop posting.

wat? almost nobody carries that stuff around. people carry their driver's licenses or state IDs and those dont show citizenship. they would need a passport or birth certificate.

You do realize there are 19 states and the District of Columbia that allow illegal migrants to get drivers licenses .
if you are driving your car and a cop pulls you over and asks for your driver's license. (you have broken no law. you were driving and following all the rules of the road)
would you comply?
why or why not?
Of course. In every state it's the law that you must show your driver license to an officer upon request when you are pulled over, even if you are not suspected of breaking a law.
In most states, when on foot, you do not have to provide ID to an officer unless you are suspected of breaking a law. So no - if an officer just randomly wants to see my ID and it's lawful for me to refuse, I will not comply.
and if you show him your id that will speed it along and stop wasting tax dollars? By not doing that your just wasting everyone's time probably including your own as he thinks of some other bullshit reason. I would allow them search whatever he they want as long as there's nothing illegal to get him out of my hair. I know its a right and all that and I respect it but its still
If people allow law enforcement to walk all over their rights, they will one day not have any rights.
It's wild that anyone would allow an officer to search their vehicle and think it would speed the process up. Saying, "I do not consent to any searches. Am I being detained or am I free to go?" is faster than having a cop spend 20 minutes tearing out seats and chit and will take even a lot longer if he plants drugs in your car.
Yeah, and ICE can also ask to bang your onion ring, but that doesn't mean you are legally required to allow him to.

Yeah, were did you get that info? You don't need to provide proof of citizenship to obtain a driver license in any state, so a driver license only shows residency and not citizenship.
There are a few northern border states that offer an enhanced driver license option that also includes proof of citizenship for people who cross the border frequently so that they don't have to carry a passport.
How far does this logic extend in your mind? If a police officer asks to search your your car, should you allow it, even if you do not believe there is anything in your car that is illegal to possess? What about your home? What about your phone? What about your computer? I'm sure that police believe that widespread compliance with such requests would make their jobs easier
I personally would allow the cops to search anything of mine they want. But I don't belong to a demographic that gets harassed for 'fun and profit' (to coin a phrase).
They can ask all they want but I was hoping Rocco would chime in on this. A lot of states you do not need to produce ID or answer any questions based on the 4th amendment unless you are suspected of a crime and the officer needs to tell you what the crime is and why you are a suspect. I don't know if this is true for federal agents or not. Seeing the constitution is the law of the land I would assume it means this includes ICE but I've seen no reliable source either way. To be fair I haven't looked either.
Watch some 1st amendment audit videos on the YouTube. The little tyrants get so pissed off when people refuse to ID themselves and are in the right.
It does include ICE, yes.
All of the inland checkpoints are illegal. You go through them in southern Arizona and in southern California. If you're ever asked to pull off into 'secondary' you can just refuse or say you're too nervous to drive your car any further and they'll let you go because they can't just leave your car blocking traffic
If there were a test to see if someone is a cultural fit for the USA before they immigrate here, it should be this question. Thinking it's ok for the police to ID you for no good reason and that you should cooperate to make their jobs easier or something is the most (what should be anyway) unAmerican thinking possible.

This test should also be administered to anyone who seeks to be POTUS, as it's clear our current one would fail miserably.

This is insane imo. If the police knocked on my door and said they wanted to search my apartment, they better have a damn good, and highly time sensitive, reason for asking if they expect me to comply. For example, if the police knocked on my apartment door and said they wanted to search my apartment to confirm that I didn't have any stolen property in my possession, my response would be a full-throated **** off, even though I don't have any stolen property in my apartment.

I thought the context of the question was when a citizen was out in public, not in their home.
If the police asked to search my room (I never have my own apartment or house) without giving a good reason I might think twice about allowing them to do so.

the question posed in this thread is if you should show id when asked. not when and if they have the right to ask.... I have not been arguing the legality of it
