The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Trump is 80 years old, not particularly healthy, and only has 3 more years in his term. I think countries like Canada and Denmark would be better served just weathering the storm. Unless exactly JD Vance takes over, any Democrat or any other Republican President in 2028 will less antagonistic towards Canada/Europe; and undo most if not all of the tariff nonsense.

Meh, I think the damage done is hard to undo. I think we've been shown just how far things can go when the wrong person gets power and you know all those ''checks and balances'' Americans talk about? Yeah they are 100% meaningless. Truth is, the US has shown the entire world they can't be trusted anymore and moving forward the world would do a lot of good treating the US that way. I hope the days where the US leads the way are over and their influence diminishes.

Weathering the storm sounds good for someone on the outside, not so much for Canadians who have lost jobs directly because of Trump and who knows how far he's willing to take this. I think the only logical step forward, regardless who is in power, is to be less reliant on the US.

Xi is every bit as bad as Trump, but with no term limits. And his successor is unlikely to be any better. We know how the CCP does business. They use subsidies to undercut your critical homegrown manufacturing, to make you completely dependent on them, and then use this as leverage to lean on you and extract concessions. And they ruthlessly steal all the IP and military secrets they can get their hands on. The CCP treats trade like war, where it is zero sum and there is a winner and a loser. And they are determined to be the winner.

I agree.

Carney represents a globalist banker class that is perfectly fine with this arrangement. But there is nothing to indicate that it would be anything but a disaster for Canada, as they dont have the global leverage to print infinite money with little inflation like the US has had.

Again I agree but I still think the most important point in all of this is that Carney is forced to look elsewhere. In an ideal world nothing changes and we continue having a relationship with our neighbor that's mutually beneficial. When that neighbor explicitly says he has no interest in that, what is Canada supposed to do?

Strong Speech by Carney at Davos

I've been reading Carney's book (it is very long) and this speech really really sounded like the him from the book. There is something about speaking just, well, kinda the truth as everyone sees it but isn't always laid out that way that is really powerful. Like ya, the international order is bullshit. It isn't like normal people don't know that. But we sort of operate pretending it is.

It's kinda sad honestly. We watched a grown up say the truth and we're all impressed. Seriously, how sad is that?

a fair critique of our society imo

Far more Canadians lost their jobs because of our governments COVID and energy policies compared to the current tarrifs. I don't recall you posting your concern for them at the time.

How impressive was Carneys speech yesterday? Sounds like the framework for a Greenland deal is done.

I agree, I'm infinitely critical of our government, the only reason you don't know this by now is because you're a special kind of stupid.

Loss after loss and this Canadian magot still won't denounce his leader Trump. The deal will be something that was already in place like the US having military bases there, they already had up to 17. They will negotiate mineral rights? Good luck to them, they've been in Greenland trying since forever all the while dropping his tariffs for the 200th time.

It's a shame people like you, who deserve the noose for treason, are allowed to vote.

You can't believe a word out of Trump's mouth . There is no deal other than Denmark allows the USA to have military bases on Greenland which they already could dob

Let's be totally honest the only CDN that deserves a noose for Treason is Justin Trudeau

Of course there isn't. They will please him with agreeing to a ''framework'' that was already in place and we all know it. US military bases have been there since forever and they've had access to minerals too. Plenty of companies have simply bowed out because the investment it would take to collect the minerals isn't worth the return.

We're dealing with a raging lunatic who just sets his focus on a new thing to bitch about every other week. Once Greenland and Canada are out of his mind it will be Cuba, if not Cuba it will be Nobel prize. It's a joke.

Agreed.

lmao at the ever sycophantic shifty trying to spin yet another "Trump Always Chickens Out" as some genius "famework" all while trying to toss in his ever present complaints about covid.

Just a complete joke

Agreed.

Our banker Prime Minister stood up in a room full of his peers, spoke their language, said what they wanted to hear to get head nods and applause. Sounded nice and the Canadian media/population gushed over it.

President Trump told them how it's going to be, why and to FAFO.

Buddy for 10 years and I've been critical of our governments in this thread. I've voted for the party that wanted to cut immigration, government spending, embrace our energy, end COVID restrictions, many of the things that has put Canada in the position it's currently in.

You just have TDS and just came into the thread when the Trump hysteria started.

Is that what happened? Or did we watch another taco moment?

Lol TDS. You mean that I, A Canadian, have issues with a foreign leader trying to actively screw MY country? That’s the definition of TDS now?

At least I can think for myself instead of still holding on to the MAGA movement like the loser you are. L after L and still can’t admit your supreme leader is a raging lunatic who has achieved close to nothing in 12 months of insanity. Well that’s not 100% true, he has enriched himself and his friends.

I'm curious how we we are so critical of Shifty for holding on to the MAGA movement or TDS but we don't treat UKE the same way for sticking with Trudeau who actually has done more damage to our country than Trump has so far .

I mean UKE and I clash all the time, granted I think we agree on far more than we'd both like to admit.

Shifty does this too and I'm not sure why, bringing up the damage Trudeau has done to Canada when you mention Trump, you understand I agree right? Trudeau has absolutely been the worst thing that has happened to Canada. I've got enough brain capacity to hate on multiple people at once.

Btw, woke up to the news of Trump wanting regime change in Cuba. Lol.

Only three more years 😀

lol who is “we”. You try to relitigate Trudeau in every other post for the last year since he was gone and endlessly try to recast me as a Trudeau sycophant when I never was. Like I’m sorry I supported the carbon tax, and that triggered you for all eternity, but no I’m nothing like shifty.

So does this mean the world order is back on? Or is it still canceled?

Tells them how it’s going to be then completely capitulates on his insane threats hours later. TACO Trump for the lose

Good speech by Carney. Clear, concise and to the point, and without glorifying the old status quo and its problems.

I'll note that I have only read the transcript, as that is a lot faster. So my comment is to its words, not the delivery which I do not know.

by Dunyain

So does this mean the world order is back on? Or is it still canceled?

The grown ups agreed to a deal that already existed so the little man can claim another victory. As for actual world order, as long as he's in office there will never be any sense of order. Does anyone still not see this?

But the market is ripping again and I'm sure a handful of American politicians have made another small fortune.

Yay US!

Pretty much everyone but me in this thread . Yes I relegate Trudeau as the damage he is done is generational. Your the guy that 6 years into Trudeau still blamed Harper and than voted for Harper2.0 which Carney is

Can we maybe get a date when enough time has gone by that you don't need to turn every conversation into trying to relitigate Trudeau? Like we are a year out. At 18 months can we have a conversation about politics and the world that doesn't degenerate into you being mad about Trudeau? 24 months? Like let's commit to a date now and you can get it out of your system and then move on. I'll tell you what - even though I almost never bring up Harper and that only came up a couple times in completely appropriate places to do so - I'll commit to not relitigating harper at the same date!

I really do not think there is a date were we can not look back and say Fxxking Trudeau caused that. I would pledge to stop bringing him up if he was tried for treason and Hung

Though on a positive note unlike you I am not a party hack and will be voting for Carney if an election is held this year
