Oh we know...... I mean basketballs my main sport the fact you said that blew my mind. IF they were making money they would be using that in the contract negotiations. Toronto just got a team so maybe ill give it a go but I mean.... probably only watching playoffs
This sort of shallow analysis and reasoning is why we have the America we do today. Itβs become the standard and I donβt know how to fix it.
Anyway, youβre wrong and I donβt feel like writing an in-depth essay explaining why. Itβs just disheartening that it passes so easily now as βlogicβ.
'You're wrong, but I'm not going to explain why.'
Kewl!
I understand this, you soft-skulled nitwit. Now go one step further and consider what profitability is based on, and youβll see that it was addressed in my original post as historic underinvestment and chronic lack of media coverage and visibility.
Itβs not because women athletes are worse. Itβs because they are given less to work with, and itβs intentional.
Some of you have never watched A League of Their Own and it shows π
And a hearty lol at “we care a lot about women’s sports” to “women actually suck at sports and that’s why they’re paid less”
Quite the arc. Great stuff guys.

I don't recall anyone saying women suck at sports.
I enjoy women's tennis much more than men's tennis, for example.
Much more athleticism in the ladies' game imo.

Profitability is based on viewership. The NFL profitability is leaps and bounds beyond CFL/Arena League Football. NBA profitability is leaps and bounds beyond G League. Why do you think that is? Because fans want to watch the best people in the world competing at a sport. The interest in watching second, third, fourth, hundredth tier people is not as high.
You're not an athelete, you don't play any sports, you simply don't understand.
Women's sports is growing and that's great. Women are able to participate in men's sports if they are good enough, and that inclusion is great.
Stop trying to pretend that because Lebron James makes $100 million that Angela Reese should make similar.
People who work at Google make more money than people who work at Dave's Software Consulting. Are we complaining about a pay gap there?
Socialism might be the best way to tighten the gaps.
I mean they do suck at sports in a way . I was also gonna use tennis as an example of them kicking ass because womens tennis is enjoyable to watch but then I remembered the best fremale tennis player ever would lose in straight sets the most college players or at least the worst male pro. ok maybe not the Williams sisters

Hold on, are you somehow under the impression that athletes themselves are the ones driving viewership?
That would explain a lot.
The Williams sisters once said they could beat any male player outside of the top 200. The 203 ranked player played each of them in turn in single set matches, beating them 6-1 and 6-2.
looks like its around rank 700 before it gets competitive

I owe Crossnerd an apology.
I didn't think anyone would say something this dumb.

If this was actually true, college football championships would get fewer viewers than the Pro Bowl.
lol

I think they are they are paid an insane amount because of it its supply/demand .
Something most people don't know when it comes to athletes pay the major player unions negotiate a percentage of the total revenue and don't just sign contracts. for example in the nba the players get 51% of the pie of all revenue. this means that if the league made 1 billion dollars more then expected 51% of that is sent to the players ABOVE their contract. if they make less they get paid less. They hold part of their contract back to make up for the down years.
in the major sports they are paid a total of the pie split between all the players rather then a set amount. They do have contracts but that's more to decide what percentage of the pie they get.
Well maybe not the nfl those guys get scammed. and the wnba obviously. someday hopefully the wnba will have that negotiating power

I'm not sure that's the best comparison. You're comparing a championship game with an exhibition game.
A better example might be comparing the College Baseball World Series vs. the Major League World Series.
Or comparing a regular-season college game versus a regular-season NFL game.*
*That said, I wouldn't be surprised if some college games get more viewers than some NFL games.
I think the strategic error was running the sitting VP when the public was pissed about inflation. No candidate from the administration was going to win when inflation was the worst it had been in 40 years, and people vocally expressed anger over that.
In other news (this is the place, right?) ICE is moving into Maine. My wife is from there and says there's a significant Somali population there, and has been for at least 30 years. Sigh.

Again, pointing to supply/demand without analyzing the market drivers that produce the demand is just a feedback loop that rests on its own false premise that male anthletes are inherently more profitable.
Oh, so there are other factors at play here besides "durrrrrr people just want to watch the best athletes?"
Comparing an exhibition game with a championship game by itself isn't helpful anyway imo.
